Probably someone that forces the mages and templars to either postpone the war or work together.

Cast adrift in the darkness of the Deep Roads, smoldering eyes peer outward and upward for both escape and vengeance. Having to forage among the vermin and Darkspawn with only tasteless, cold glowing idols to lead the way out towards civilization, blood stained paws creep towards a future that is not as bright as the madness dwelling in what remains of those nine tiny lives.

Pounce-A-Lot indeed.....

'As the grounds ruptured below him, the young dwarf - not yet out of his adulthood - stared down the Hero of Ferelden. His eyes began to glow, as did his hands, when he began to whisper...

"ENCHANTMENT!".'

Bioware.

(Although as some have pointed out, perhaps more specifically, Laidlaw.)

Everyone who thinks they're being tremendously witty by naming a developer as the villain of DA3 is being given some time for introspection. I hope you use it well.

Humanity will continue to be its own greatest enemy in DA3, garaunteed. Hubris, pride and lack of forgivness or temperence in views have been much more damaging than any ancient evil thus far.

We will play the main villain of DA3.

If DA3 is going to be about the Mage/Templar conflict, then I very, very much suspect we're going to be siding with one or the other... meaning we'll be the main villain to one half of the conflict or the other.

I am hoping that there isn't just one....

But that the decisions lead to one/two/three antagonists....not standard villains. I want more Loghains, no more archdemons. :o

Every story needs antagonists otherwise every story would be as boring as hell. There needs to be antagonists and road blocks that stop the protagonist from getting what they want otherwise it will be such a boring tale.

Humanity's hubris is everywhere, it's not an antagonist although it could lead to someone becoming an antagonist; by itself it's nothing to stop the protagonist.

Some of the best villains are the ones who do all the wrong things for what they think are all the right reasons.

Therefore Sebastian.

"He dies, or I am returning to Starkhaven. And I will bring such an army with me on my return that there'll be nothing left of Kirkwall for these maleficarum to rule!...I swear to you, I will come back and find your precious Anders, and I will teach him what true justice is."

So Seb finally stops waffling, goes back to Starkhaven, raises an army of extreme anti-mage folk, either against Hawke/Anders or with a pro!Templar!Hawke against the rebellious mages, and razes everything in his path to wipe "evil" from Thedas.

Either way I'd love to see him as a villain :3

I could honestly really see Anders as a sort of villain in DA3 if they keep with the mage/chantry war theme. Now that he is losing control of justice, and has set the chantry/mage war in motion, I could see him as a kind of leader for independent and blood mages. It would make for a cool story, and an unfortunate one considering the player knows who he used to be. Might be cool, who knows.

Although the fact that he died in a lot of peoples games is a bit of an issue.

^Yeah, because of that it will be pretty impossible to make Anders the main villain of DA3. But perhaps a powerful Tevinter magister could step in. Although I'm not sure why the Tevinter Imperium would care that much, with the constant war with the Qunari.

In a twist, the White Divine of the Chantry everywhere but Tevinter. She already is contemplating an Exalted March on Kirkwall, and with what happens in Act III, that serves as all she needs to stop contemplating it and go all Hank Hill. Only, instead of goin' fishin' (*Awkward silence* "...Can I have some more butter for my pancakes?" *Hank gets up* "That's it! I'm goin' fishin'!" *Hank leaves*), she decides to raze the Free Marches (*Things are fine* *Mage or Templar causes huge problem with Hawke in the middle of it all* *The White Divine hears about it* "That's it! I'm razing the Free Marches!" *The White Divine declares an Exalted March*)

Though the idea of the player and their group being an agent of the Big Bad is intriguing, espeially if our dear Seeker, Cassandra, is on our side, which leads to the twist in the endgame, where we learn it's not the Black Divine of Tevinter and Tevinter only that we needed to worry about and never really did, but our supposedly pure and just and capable-of-doing-no-wrong White Divine.
