Well, I succeeded. Got my Faeblades and Chakrams in one playthrough.
And the Chakrams, which I bought for 500 gold, completely TROUNCED my Faeblades, which were unique and from a quest.
Christ, Chakrams are mint. Definitely going Shadowcaster in the main game.
Yep, yep. I was looking hard at all of the end of tier abilities as well as the tier 6 fate cards. There was absolutely nothing impressive about any of the "pure" archetypes with the fate cards. The only ones that really stood out to me were Finesse/Sorcery and Finesse/Might. You basically have to choose between having much better passives and having 1-2 "end of tier" abilities. Considering how much more you get by going 55/55, I don't believe it will be a hard choice to make.
This of course hinges on the preorder/DLC fate cards not offering anything better. And yes, Chakrams slay. The only weapon that is even remotely as good is the Greatsword. The Greatsword is beastly vs melee combatants, but falls behind on enemies that like to dodge a lot. The only downside to the Chakrams is that you can't add poison to them (I guess they aren't bladed!) and you can't really do anything other than pump up their base damage after you get the charge up ability. Most of the other actual skills require a staff. I mean at 50 or 55 you get the dodge move, but that's a long way away.
My plan for Shadowcasting-
1. Pump up Chakrams to the best of their ability, as they'll be my main weapons.
2. Get the elemental abilities as well as some healing(Healing Surge, Mark of Flame, Storm Bolt, Ice Barrage)
3. Definitely get Elemental Rage no matter what
For the Finesse abilities, I'm still unsure as to what to go for. Any suggestions? I'm gonna use daggers as Faeblades, cool as they are, just don't seem worth it when Chakrams are around. Right now I'm thinking about adding points to acquire Assassins Art and Lunge. If I forego Lunge, I can probably switch to Shadow Flare, but I don't want to be saddled with a ton of abilities and only using a few.
I couldn't find too much from Finesse that actually meshed very well with Sorcery. My first attempt was to see if you could use the poison passive on Chakrams, but razorblade boomerangs are apparently NOT bladed. I tried using the first tier ability that supposedly "stuns" enemies briefly to see if I could charge up the Chakram spin, but that was a no go as well.
I think about the only real way to go is traps (this shores up the Chakram dead zone), and I'm just assuming that those will actually work with the bonuses you get from the Sorcery tree, and you can pump up the assassination skill for your daggers. I wanted to get the +10% critical passive, but I doubt that would work with the Chakrams either. I am also not sure what piercing means yet (surely more than just arrows?) or how much of a Chakram is physical.
The two trees seem kind of like seperate halves that don't really meld together outside of the fate cards. Poison blink and criticals giving mana, with a nice boost to critting and damage in general? Yes please. I honestly think this will be more of a Chakram/heal/tempest build more than anything else, with the Finesse skills being more supportive.
As flashy as some of the spells are, and as powerful as they might appear on paper, the casting times leave much to be desired. The Chakrams seem like they are going to end up being a better area of effect spell than a true spell in this game.
