You know what I don't understand? Why the 45 mins? I can't stop wondering if EA just trying to make people play the thing 10 times to get to see all of the content. I played twice and I am done. Not just with the demo. Because EA is really starting to make me sick, and this will have influence on Bioware and any other company in the EA web. Because honestly, that's not how you treat people. Not sure why they even try so hard to be the biggest jerk in the industry.

Right, because its sooo bad that there's an optional demo to play where you have the option of playing for 45 minutes to get optional content for another game you have the option of buying.

Biggest jerks in the industry? Indeed.

That's not the point. They don't make the demo and cross promotion to do us a favor. They do it because nobody even would have noticed KoA otherwise. And then they tell you 'have fun exploring' and give you a 45 minute time frame in which you can't even see half of the quests. Yeah, fun exploring. They make you race through the demo to at least see some quests. Good joke. As I said, they don't even have a good reason to be a jerk because it will bite them.

Right, because its sooo bad to advertise a brand new IP to give it attention and add a timer to a demo so that you're left wanting more.

Not just bad, also stupid. Because it really has no purpose than to remind peopel that it's EA and EA doesn't care about people. Just money.

Tell me one good reason for the timer then? You can't access all areas anyway. So what is the point of the timer?

I try. i understand english a little. I finished demo Kings of Amalur, but i do not give chakram launcher

Its okay if you don't understand a lot of English, we'll work through it.

What platform are you playing on? Xbox 360, PS3, PC?

Did you play the entire demo? You have to play through everything. Eventually in the demo there will be a 45 minute timer. You'll unlock The Chakram Launcher after that timer hits zero.

platform- PC. I played demo until 45 minute timer ended. Appeared window which said that i give the chakram launcher.

Just Cause 2 had a timer on its demo. Probably there because you run out of things to do and get board.

To. Leave. You. Wanting. More.

That and you are in one area. The more time you spend in it, the closer you are to getting bored of it. Then you'll want to leave, but can't.

Main game comes out, you're ALREADY sick of that area.

Bad design.

Add a timer, and people realize there's more they can do than in the time alotted.

Keeps them interested, and if they like the game, makes them want more.

Good design.

Was it through Origin? One person they did it through Origin and didn't get the gun, but then tried the Steam download and got their gun that way.

I've played the game through on Steam also and had zero issues getting both the armor and the launcher.

I could wish it were less cartoony, but I had fun with it, which is the important part, so it has won a place on my to try list. I especially had fun with some of the stealth kills I managed to pull off. They looked vicious.

Alex,

For an open world game how else would you propose to do it? Allow users 1,2,3 or more hours after tutorial in the same area, where does it stop, when does it not become just a demo at that point? 3 hrs would be exceptionally generous, heck most games to day barely last 5-6, but you would probably be bored of said area and "buy the main game to see how this finishes".

How do demo users know when it ends, just when they are bored?

This game is more akin to Skyrim-open world rpg type (no demo I believe) than Mass effect, DA, FF etc (easy to demo because it's fairly episodic).

I fail to see why the timer was a bad thing, most games don't have demos let alone demos this long, even for new IP's.

Try using Chakrams. Costs 500+ gold in the inn.

Best weapons in the demo for sure. At least in my opinion.

That didn't work well for me then. Because I got pissed off. Maybe I am just too smart of EA marketing.

And this demo is LONG.

Sure if you rush, its fast. 45 minutes being around the shortest amount of time you can play if you rush it.

If you take your time and don't skip anything, it can last more than a couple of hours.

A 2 hour demo is great.

Hah, it has nothing to do with you being smart or stupid. It has nothing to do with intelligence at all.

It just means it didn't work for you. That's the long and short. And thats too bad for you, because it works for plenty of the rest of us.

I didn't love the game ($20-$30 buy for me), but I had absolutely no qualms about the length of the demo and how much it allowed me to explore and judge the depth/quality of it for me.

Contrarily it sounds like you did want more of the game, because you are mad at the timer....????

Oh yea I probably took at least that long..

For comparison I have but 60 hrs into Skyrim and still have yet to visit Winterhold or Solitude or done almost nothing in the main quest, and have only explored a few "cities" in depth.

You should mess around with the War Hammer if you haven't yet.  I won't be using it during my first playthrough, but the damage it does is sickening.  That of course is if you actually land the hit.  Try attacking a pack of wolves with it and watch as each swing gets interrupted if you start them anywhere outside of far away.  The Minotaur Rush seems pretty crappy too for most enemies, but ironically it allows you to headbutt trolls with no problem and interrupt their attacks.  The block + attack move it does is really awkward too and has you kicking air that's 45 degrees away from your target more often than not.  Still, you can completely smash guards in 2-3 hits with it, and it's pretty funny.

I still think Chakrams <> Greatsword > Dagger/Faeblade (stealth kills only) >> everything else.

LPPrince wrote...

I hate slow weapons, I never use them.

For me I've got to be fast. Slowest I'll go is longswords.

The Greatsword is comparatively slower than the Chakrams, but it's not that much slower than the longsword.  You should mess around with it too...because for anything that's not super quick, it's very very good, and has probably the best charge up attack in the game.

No I got upset because I was trying to finish a quest time and I actually had to race through the world to get to it. And that as a rogue when I would have prefered to sneak on enemies and kill them stealthily, but know what? I had no time. So I noticed how easily you can run past mobs instead of engaging them which doesn't exactly improve the value of the game for me. You see there are already areas you cannot go to. Just try to follow the main quest. It's blocked and that's ok for me because I don't expect to play a full game in a demo. But for just trying out stuff, combat etc you always have to start a new game. That's really annoying. So I wonder why put an annoyance like this in a demo unless you are either stupid or a jerk. The answer doesn't really matter since in either case I am not interested in the game.

So I've managed to complete all the main quests and one side quest, and exited the demo when I still had ~30 min. of time left. Yet I still got only the armor entitlement. Do I have to return to the demo and finish all the sidequests in order to unlock the weapon? Thanks!

No there is no requirement other than waiting 45 minutes from the point the counter starts. You should get both.

You have to let the timer run out.

Packs of wolves are bastards. Chakrams are amazing at dealing with them though.
