So I've managed to complete all the main quests and one side quest, and exited the demo when I still had ~30 min. of time left. Yet I still got only the armor entitlement. Do I have to return to the demo and finish all the sidequests in order to unlock the weapon? Thanks!

You have to wait the 45 minutes, you don't need to do any quests at all. As soon as the timer starts, you may just leave your character there and do some other thing while the time passes. But there is a warning when you have 20 minutes left that you must click on ok, or the timer won't keep counting. As soon as the 45 minutes runs out, you'll get the message for the weapon. BUT: I only got the weapon when I downloaded it from Steam. Apparently Origin has some kind of bug for some people that won't give you the weapon even if you wait the 45 minutes. The message will be shown, but it will not be unlocked here on BSN. I played a dozen times through Origin without success, but in the first time I played through steam, the weapon unlocked right away.

Alright, there's our solution then.

Every time someone says they unlocked the armor and not the gun, we'll tell them to download the demo from Steam.

Main game comes out, you're ALREADY sick of that area.

Bad design.

Add a timer, and people realize there's more they can do than in the time alotted.

Keeps them interested, and if they like the game, makes them want more.

Good design.

That didn't work well for me then. Because I got pissed off. Maybe I am just too smart of EA marketing.

I didn't love the game ($20-$30 buy for me), but I had absolutely no qualms about the length of the demo and how much it allowed me to explore and judge the depth/quality of it for me.

Contrarily it sounds like you did want more of the game, because you are mad at the timer....????

No I got upset because I was trying to finish a quest time and I actually had to race through the world to get to it. And that as a rogue when I would have prefered to sneak on enemies and kill them stealthily, but know what? I had no time. So I noticed how easily you can run past mobs instead of engaging them which doesn't exactly improve the value of the game for me. You see there are already areas you cannot go to. Just try to follow the main quest. It's blocked and that's ok for me because I don't expect to play a full game in a demo. But for just trying out stuff, combat etc you always have to start a new game. That's really annoying. So I wonder why put an annoyance like this in a demo unless you are either stupid or a jerk. The answer doesn't really matter since in either case I am not interested in the game.

So in the Mass effect demo, you want to simultaneously play all 6 classes?

It wasn't possible to stealth kill everyone of course, just because you had to rush a few things that puts you in a twist and you had to do another playthough (which you can skip the tutorial).

It sounds exactly like your expectations for a demo were far far far too high

^That as well. Gotta lower expectations. Betas and Demos are never as well polished and made as games, and usually a timer will be in place if the game is huge.

I don't play many demos mind you. And never did I play one with a timer before. I mean the point is there is enough time to do all quests and see everything. You just have to restart again and again. So why not just let people play without this crap? In the end it is the same with and without timer just that one is annoying and the other not so. So I don't understand this strategy. Maybe if someone could explain it or whatever but I doubt it. Because as I said it is stupid. People will either get bored after spending 4 hours in the newbie area or after their 12th restart. The timer doesn't help with anything.

The only thing I really expect is to not be annoying. And it failed at that.

Lets break down that last sentence.

Boredom in 4 hours vs. Boredom in 24 hours(12 restarts of 2 hour demo).

I know what I'd go for.

Which proves my point or yours? Also the demo only takes about 1 hour if at all. Because you don't always start underground. You can skip the first part.

You can, but that's an option. And lets break it down further-

Say someone takes 2 hours to play it the first time, but an hour for every playthrough afterwards.

Boredom in 4 hours vs. Boredom in 13 hours(2 hour first playthrough, 1 hour for the other 11 restarts)

Again, I know which one I'd go for.

If you were still indicisive after 1.5- 2hrs (inclusive of pausing), looking through all the screens, having more than a few convos and completing 4-5 quests (I'm super slow and did 4 at least that I remember completely).

Why would 1 more hour help? At some point they have to cut you off, you want to do everything in the demo in one fell swoop, but the game designers want to at least keep a little to the imagination.

Plus, it promotes changing things up. Using new abilities and class set ups, new weapons, using new dialogue options, choosing to forego quests, go through them differently, slaughter everyone or save as many as possible, etc etc.

Just that they don't. You can see everything in the demo if you just give it enough goes. Which seems to be the entire point. And as a result if you buy the game the start of the game will bore you even more. I mean there are more reasons why I don't like the game. But this one is rather a negative than a positive tbh. I may have entirely overlooked it if the rest of the game would have convinced me more.

How many people you think will play a demo for either

1) 3+ hours

2) ad nauseum

the answer is not very many, I like the Genre and dont mind the game per se, and I only played once.

Actually in one play through I slaughtered everyone. Because I stole something and got caught which caused everyone to hate me.

Nope, but 1-2 more hours wouldn't have convinced me otherwise, the biggest drawback to me is the artstyle, just not my thing, but if I bought it for 20-30 bucks I could definitely play it.

In one of my 6 playthroughs(6th one crashed, first time for me with this demo), I slaughtered EVERYONE.

It was fun. I'll never do that in the main game, so it was good to get out a murderous rage here.

I see that when you play the Reckoning Demo you unlock 2 items for ME3, but you also unlock some items for Reckoning as well, so my question is this, when playing the ME3 Demo will it also unlock some items for ME3, or just the 2 items for Reckoning? the reason I ask is because I am not sure if I want to be teased yet with the Demo lol, I might just save all my excitement for when I actually pick up my N7 Collector's Edition.

But I did play through the Reckoning demo for the ME3 goodies:)

Thanks

So would you have stopped at the time in your first playthrough even without time limit or would have spent a bit more time if you didn't have to restart the game?

Very likely, yes. We need to wait for that information though. Trust me, its coming soon.

I see where you are going with this, but it would just depend on how much time I had. I'm an RPG gamer and of course love to quest, loot, fiddle with my inventory etc. I read all the descriptions and went though every line of dialouge I could in my demo run to get a better understanding of the world and what they were trying to accomplish.

I'm more "hardcore" than most so I would have played a demo to the end of its allotted time, but if it didn't grab me in the first 2 hours, the next 2 would unlikely change my opinion, and therefore subsequent demo runs are unlikely but I may give it one more shot to try a different build.

Yours is the only complaint I've seen that the demo is too short to form an opinion of the game.
