Thank god it's a crossover promotion with a game I'm actually really interested in. I hope EA doesn't start doing this with other franchises *shudders at the thought of having to play a Madden game to unlock armor in ME3*
I can see it now, football uniforms (and helmets) in ME3.
Maybe we could even select what NFL player's jersey we want our Shep to wear.
Yeah that would the stupid lol. But I wouldn't put it past them. They've done crazier things the past.

They could replace the ball in Madden with a combat drone, or replace the players with Krogan.ebevan91 wrote...

Heck, I'm probably going to play the demo now, and I'll buy it if I like it enough. Now we just need a release date for ME3's demo...

Yeah I know but it sure would be the most fitting if it was Dragon Age & Reckoning having cross-promo (both fantasy etc) and Mass Effect had it with Dead Space and/or Crysis (all 3 science-fiction)didymos1120 wrote...
Wasn't on the table. They don't have a DS game to promote right now. Same reason we aren't seeing a DA cross-promotion this time.
Personally I hope for a DS insipred armor as well
But this armor does look nice and cant wait to try it out

So you'd rather I'd play a free demo then buy full retail versions of both games? That makes no sense what so ever.
Plus it doesn't really defeat the purpose. A lot of people would still rather play the free demo's then buy both games for the items in question.
I have a horrible feeling you didn't bother to actually read what was in my post and instead just glanced at the thread title.

REDWOOD SHORES, CA. – JANUARY 11, 2012 – The massive
world of Amalur will finally break open when Electronic Arts Inc.
(NASDAQ:EA) and 38 Studios, LLC release a demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: ReckoningTM on January 17, 2012. Available for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3
computer entertainment system and PC, the demo will give players a
taste of the rich, diverse, action-packed world of Amalur, and will also
unlock special items in the final game.
In addition to the demo, 38 Studios has teamed up with BioWare to create a cross promotion to reward fans of both Reckoning and Mass Effect 3*. By playing the upcoming demos for both Reckoning and Mass Effect 3, gamers will receive special in-game items, including Mass Effect inspired, Omni-blade daggers in Reckoning and special Reckoning-themed armor and assault rifle in Mass Effect 3 designed by award-winning artist Todd McFarlane.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver this massive one-two punch with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3. We wanted to provide fans of the Mass Effect franchise with a unique set of rewards for diving into the expansive universe of Reckoning,” said Curt Schilling, Chairman and Founder of 38 Studios.
“We are excited to be collaborating with 38 Studios to bring pieces inspired by the Mass Effect universe into the world of Reckoning and to have items designed by Todd McFarlane in Mass Effect 3,”
said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager of EA’s BioWare Label and
Co-Founder of BioWare. “This is an awesome way to reward our fans with
unique content that not only looks cool, but also delivers some great
in-game benefits.”
By playing the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo, gamers will receive two unlocks for Mass Effect 3 when the highly anticipated game releases on March 6, 2012, both designed by the renowned creator of Spawn, Todd McFarlane:
- Reckoner Knight Armor:
This armor will maximize damage done in close-quarters combat while a
beefed–up power cell feeds energy into weapon systems to increase
projectile velocity.- The Chakram Launcher: This
weapon uses a fabricator to manufacture lightweight, explosive
ammunition discs. This weapon is earned after completing the Reckoning demo and watching the trailer at the end.
By playing the upcoming Mass Effect 3 demo, fans will unlock the following items for Reckoning when the game launches on February 7, inspired by Mass Effect:The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
- N7 Armor:
Players can unlock special armor inspired by Commander Shepard’s iconic
N7 battle armor including Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Chausses and
Greaves.- Onmiblade Daggers: A
holographic blade stemming from Commander Shepard’s Omni-Tool, the
Omni-blade allows players to stab enemies in close combat. Once players
install and play the Mass Effect 3 demo, they will unlock the daggers.
demo features the introduction to the game, allowing players to
experience the game’s Tutorial Mode and a portion of its large, open
world. Players will create and customize their hero and drop right into
the action. Once players master the basics, they will have 45 minutes to
explore the vast world of Amalur and begin to embark upon a quest that
could redefine their character’s destiny forever.

I would have never shown interest in this other RPG if it wasn't for the ME3 content I could get. The whole point for creating something like this is to generate interest. If they didn't care for generating interest in both games they would have never created this extra content.

Well at least this is better than having to buy BF3 for early demo access in ME 3!
No, the online pass for BF3 is still as of yet the only annouced way of having early access to the multiplayer portion of the ME3 demo.

That's for sure.
At least I don't have anything to lose on the demo.

The only thing you have to lose is time. Although I will be waiting for a angry thread with poster being pissed off for the demo not being the most awesome thing ever.

I fail to see how also including the ME3 dlc in the retail copy of Amalur and the Amalur dlc in the retail copy of ME3 would take away interest from either game. In fact it would probably cause more interest because it would mean people who miss the demo would still have a shot at the items.

People who are interested in either games are likely going to hear about the demo. If not then oh well they missed one piece of armor and a single weapon so what?
If I missed the demo and ended up getting Amalur dlc in my retail copy of ME3 it would do nothing for me. Its not like it would generate any sort of interest in the game for me.
Edit: I get the dlc for my ME3 game from playing another RPG demo. I don't have to get both games to get the dlc so I'm fine with that.

So I have to FINISH the demo for the AR. What about the armor? is that for starting the demo?
For installing Demo.
If you don't care for the Demo nor for that AR, for some reason, you can uninstall Demo after you log in to your Origin account( which is your EA and BSN account as well so no need to create new profile) and still have armor for ME3.
For AR, you need to beat Demo and watch trailer without skipping it.

Is Origin required?
That is the trillion dollar question and so far the general consensus I've observed is that BioWare's and EA's silence on the matter is a strong probability of a yes to that question.

Not for Demo.
You will be required to log in to your Origin account( which is your EA and BSN account so no need to create new profile) to gain DLC items in both games.
