So, what'd you like about KoA?
To be honest, not quite sure yet. I'll be honest: I enjoyed DA:O for its story.
Not its gameplay. The slow, grinding, tactical team-on-hoard action just wasn't my thing, so I toned it down to casual difficulty and just ran through the thing. I loved the story, I loved the lore, I loved the characters and I loved the dialogue. But I didn't love the game as a whole; I tolerated the game to get the rest.
DAII simplified it for people like me by making cross-class combos that are easier to follow and set up and simplifying the monotonous item micromanagement that felt like a bad high school job most times. Despite the game's other flaws, these changes aren't what I consider "flaws", even though I understand the point of view of others on the forum.
KoA:R, by its demo at least, seems to streamline it in a way similar to DAII, but in different ways. The item micromanagement is more involved, but not spanned over a multitude of characters. Combat is less about tactical, grind-it-out miniature RTS's and more about simply presenting a combat challenge for the one player to get through. While it's still not my favorite combat ever, I'll take it over DA:O's. The character customization is a plus, the story is unique, the class system is cool, and all in all, it gives me something new to play in the genre while I wait for DAIII (and possibly Dragon's Dogma, though I remain unimpressed with that so far). The art style is almost Saturday morning cartoonish, but it really began to grow on me, unlike Fable.
But then again, I think Fable as a series is just bad all around. That's just me.
