<getting just a bit...>
*What* swirling red override? The background for the title page? The Amethyst Dragon did a complete overhaul of the GUI, including that.
But I'm not sure that's the one you mean...
Edit: Rolo <- huge fan of spirals :-) Never can think in straight lines :-(

I made one override that disabled this effect in order to fix crashing for one player, however I somehow lost it from my project.
I can do it again if its needed, it was simple trick.

I was referring to when you login to gamespy and you look at all the server list.The screen outside the list is swirling.There was a override tga to turn it to blank black.
There is a download somewhere just that file.
Also I think that wasnt always red .Think It was blue before final patch. <---useless info
EDIT:
Woo hoo found in my Skype history
http://www.gamefront...78/fog_genm.tga

<bowing out...>
Strange.
I don't get that, though I don't remember ever installing an override.
In fact I try to keep my override pretty much empty because I'm always trying such a diverse array of things and you never know when some little innocuous override is breaking your fabulous new whatever system and making you pull your hair out.
Or is that just me? :-P
... and I have nothing helpful to offer :-/ Sorry.

I was able to extract the red version from the game resources with NWN Explorer Reborn. It was hiding in the HotU main data > tga textures. The file name is fog_genm.tga. If you were to extract that file right into your override folder, it should restore the red swirl for you.
The version I colored for the transparent GUI is purple. Go figure.
Edit: Ah, it looks like you found what you wanted while I was searching.
