Is it possible to have no love interest in mass effect 1 as a male shepard while letting ashley live?
i'm going through the games agian and i only wanted to romance Tali but i don't want ashley to live.
Bonus point for not going to renegade.

P.S. Main reason i want here to live is so maybe I could see some drama in me3 since im with Tali, ah well, fanfics are still there.

Just tell her to stay out of it when she asks if you're interested in Liara and then tell her that she may have gotten the wrong impression if she was already showing interest in you. Otherwise just pick the neutral dialogue options or simply don't speak to her at all.

Ive tried that but alas, she still comes before Illos, does it have something to do with the conversation after Eden Prime?

I think that if she smiles during the conversation after they bring you to the Normandy (by picking paragon options) it is an indicative that you may have triggered the romance, but I'm not sure.

In any case telling her that about Liara should definitely work, since I just did that to break up the romance that I had accidentally started with her on my last playthrough.Though in order to trigger that convo I think that you also need to be nice with Liara, who is easier to break up with in case that you accidentally spark her interest as well.

You can also constantly remind her that you're her superior in every dialogue, though those are usually renegade options and cut plenty of content from her conversations.

I renegaded out in the Post-Eden prime conversations and i think it worked, i dunno im playing through as we speak, and as my 5th playthrough im tring to make it perfect ill tell you the results.

What kills the romance sub-plot best; use the 'you're out of line' dialogue option when she voices her concern over Wrex & Garrus being allowed on the ship.

You could just not talk to Ashley or Liara. Its not like Garrus or Wrex where they have a side mission, you won't be missing anything, especially if you've talked to her over and over and over in each play through. Whether or not Shep asked someone every little detail of their life doesn't carry over into the other games. And if you want to absolutely make sure you don't get an Ashley romance there's always Virmire.

If you still are having problems I believe you can still turn them down when Shep and whoever almost kiss or when they come into your room for the sex scene. Don't hold me to that though.

To shut down the romance with Ash, on the very first conversation with her downstairs, when she starts talking about Aliens on the Normandy, use the "You are out of line" dialog and it will kill the romance but allow you to continue talking to her.

I think I've said enough to Ash to stop her (rather annoying that you have to either ignore someone or be rude to them to keep them off you!). I'm more worried about ending up in a relationship with Liara due to having talked to her once. Mind you, I once managed to end up not romancing Ash in a playthrough where I'd wanted to.

If you get to the point where the Normandy's in lockdown and someone shows up, you can end the romance right there by taking Renegade options. If you're past that, there's no way to end the romance (Renegade options when they come to your quarters will still continue the romance in ME2, you just won't get the achievement and you won't actually sleep with them).
