It ends in a "whisper", since it will pass many years, perhaps centuries, before all traces of civilization gets erradicated. When that happens though, Shep is already defeated in his / her mind, and accepts his / her death.

I do hope ME3 will have one ending like this, ending with a "last stand" mission against overwhelming enemies.

He then gets shanked by kai leng with a tooth brush. Kai leng pours himself a bowl of cereal as Shep twitches and gurgles on the floor.

Ok the only thing I hate more than sunshine endings are sunshine and "Everyone lives" endings. Worst combo ever for an ending.
