I've made a custom weapon and trying to add a new weapon type. I've followed this tutorial: http://social.biowar...New_Weapon_Type
For the model files, I extracted all of the files from a prop. At first I just edited the files with notepad and in the toolset but I worried that this was the problem so I imported them into Gmax then exported them with new file names so everything was sure to be uniform, and only changed Material Name from Static.mat to Weapon.mat in the .mao. The new model shows up when I add it to a new material, so I'm pretty sure the model isn't the problem.
I think I got the naming conventions correct too. These are the files I dropped in my override folder:
w_pfk_pf01a_0.met
w_pfk_pf01a_0.mmh
w_pfk_pf01a_0.msh
w_pfk_pf01a_0.phy
Prp_Tools01.mao
I wasn't sure if the .dds files were supposed to go in the override folder as well but I've tried that too.
I've also tried renaming the .mao but that didn't make a difference.
These are the steps I took with altering the 2das:
I added the following line to the M2da:
11000 pitchfork_variation pitchfork_variation ****
I created a new tab in Item Variations called pitchfork_variation and entered the following:
1 Pitchfork 1 pfk pf01a 0 **** 2
In the BITM_base I added:
1105 Weapon - Pitchfork 795160464 246507 2 3 3 5 10 14 15 0 **** 1 0 11000 1 **** ico_longsword **** 2 **** **** 2 1 7 1 2 2 **** **** **** **** 5 1 1 0 0 1 11 **** **** 1 **** 0 0 1 1 0
In the itemstats I added:
1105 Weapon - Pitchfork 0 7 1.5 0 2 0 **** -0.1 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 0
1 11 0 7 1 1 10
In Sourcedata I added:
Pitchfork 1105 PITCHFORK 795160464 **** 2 3 **** 3 7 4 14 15 1 0 pitchfork_variation **** ico_longsword 2 **** 2 1 7 0 0 1 11 1 **** **** Melee **** **** 5 **** 2 2 0 2 0 weapon 0 1 11 0 7 1 1 10
All of these were then compiled and dropped in my override folder. I did notice that source data was not generated, not sure if it is supposed to be or not.
The Variation shows up in the list of weapons and the weapon variation but I don't see the model. I'm sure I missed some things I've tried- I'm embarassed to say that I've been at this all day. Any help would be very much appreciated!

So I solved this by making the pitchfork a longsword variation which was, wow, easy. This is fine for my purpose of just making a movie. I am still curious what I did wrong here with trying to add a new weapon type, so if anyone has any input I'd still appreciate it, but it's not urgent anymore.
