The problems you have described are not what I would expect from that bad of a computer.

I have the original PC edition of the
game (retail disk) and have patch 1.04. I have an IntelCore i3 processor
2.27 GHz, with 4 GB RAM. My display adaptor is Intel Graphics Media Accelorator HD, and my sound adaptor is IDT High Definition CODEC.
I would expect you to be complaining about great slowness, and way substandard graphic quality. You do not have a supported PC, since a real, actual graphics card is required, and you tell me that you have none.
Intel makes junk when it comes to graphics, and no one supports the PCs that only have those for video. I rather doubt that adding a proper gaming card to the PC will do anything about the complaints you have described, but IMO, if you do not get a gaming class card, you really don't want to play a game like this one the way that it was designed to be played.
In some areas where the game's requirements and the game owner's hardware go apart, I do try to assist, whether EA would do so or not. When it comes to wasting one's money on games when all you have is
Intel's junk for a video solution, I am far less generous.
Not that I knew anything about the problems you mentioned so far, but my negative feeling about Intel video is pretty common.
Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB card or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB card or greater (and this one is more wrong)
(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two
video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures)
