I'm on the mission "Horizon," and towards the end where you encounter
the Praetorian I got killed. However, instead of being taken back to the
last save - the area where you collect the Collector Particle Beam - it
takes me back to the beginning and the squad select screen, thus making
me repeat everything no matter how many times I save. When I started
the game up before getting killed it loaded at the save point mentioned,
but afterwards it starts over at the beginning of the level. What's up?

Sounds like that partial random load problem that most players have experienced when you select 'auto load' or something similar to that. To avoid it completely it is recommended to choose the save file you want to load.
