I've gotta ask why everyone is so hot on BioWare learning from KoA? Isn't KoA just Dragon Age 2 but with an open sandbox world? the combat felt almost identical, you still had the conversation wheel. The only big differences I saw was that the visuals looked like a Disney film, you had no companions, and that the protagonist wasn't voiced.

I'd say they're right to look at Skyrim for inspiration. Yes, I do agree they are two incredibly different games. Skyrim, and well, all the Elder Scrolls games appeal is in the exploration and immersion. The Elder Scrolls games are basically simulations you can lose yourself in. Now I don't think that this is the route Dragon Age should take but if they could capture just a part of that sense of awe you get while exploring the vastness of Skyrim I'd be pleased. I mean, lets face it... DA2 was a bore to explore. Even look at the Mass Effect series as in both games exploration was both tedious and boring. This is what Bioware needs to learn from. They have excellent characters and stories but sometimes they just seem to keep making terrible judgement calls in gameplay options, such as exploration... Kinda like an afterthought to them.

But the points of these game is not really exploring. I would like some of DA  areas to be wider, I guess and perhaps have more than one path.

KOA has a lot of good parts to it. I liked the sword combat a lot more than DA2, and I also liked physically traveling from place to place instead of just warping there. There's plenty of things in KOA that could be used as inspiration

Yep. Wider bigger areas. Though if DA does it, they need to populate them more.

As for combat, i find KoA's > DA2's.

If they desire to keep DA2's actiony combat, KoA's would be where to look for inspiration.

I recently played the KoA demo, and my impression was simply "meh." I didn't feel like the combat was particularly wonderful it was ok, but nothing amazing. Nor were the environments; for level design, I'd much rather see DA look to Skyrim (it wasn't a perfect game visually, but did have some very nice moments). As far as story and characters, Bioware should build upon the best parts of both DA games (good companon quests and a enhanced version of the friendship/rival system in DA2; the strong relationships you develop with characters and choices you make from DA:O and the entertaining conversations in both games).

That's my two cents, anyway.

Single player combo oriented combat does not fit a party based game. I'd rather they focus on encounter design and maye expand the cross class combo system.

KoA had an awful combat system imo. Hope they don't look at that at all.

Oh no, I'm not saying they should copy it entirely. Just take specific things from it to affect their own, like speed, the perceived weight of weapons, etc etc.

I've got Amalur on pre-order (already played the demo), and I have ME3 on pre-order as well.

I would like to see BioWare incorporate some of Amalur, allow the rogue to branch out. Let the rogue use a shield without being fettered with a weakness. Let the rogue have a spell for an instant attack like Amalur does.

I love BioWare's RPGs, which is why I bought all of the DLCs and expansions. But it bothers me when there are side-quests where you don't earn any XPs for completing them.

Levelling is key in a RPG, so I believe level caps should be removed.

I actually like this. I also like the ME system of giving you XP for completing missions as opposed to just killing stuff. This encourages more solutions (i.e. play sneaky) and removes the grinding aspect of any game.

As for levelling- I don't mind caps because again, grinding is terrible and it lets you just focus on the playing the game instead of worrying about minmaxing.

Well I wanted to be a shadowcaster. But now I've seen the launch trailer, I just want to hit people with that giant hammer.

Seems everyone wants to be a Shadowcaster. I wanted to be a Shadowcaster before it was cool.

But anyway, I would LOVE to mix fighting styles in DA games.

You know, kinda have a DA style Shadowcaster class.

I only have one question for those who played it/the demo;

Will it have rich NPC/party interaction like how Dragon Age: Origins and ME2 handled it?

THanks :D

You don't have a party.

Gametrailers.com came out with a review recently. Maybe that will help you?

NPCs? No. I mean, there IS dialogue, and lots of it. Reviews say that the voice acting is top notch. But...well, I don't know exactly what parameters you were looking for when you asked for "interaction".

Party? No. There is no party. You just play with one character, you have no followers/squadmembers.

Single player RPG. No party, no banter. Avoid it if thats what you like in your RPGs (like I do).

Eh. While my favourite RPGs of all time had party members, they came from a time where inter-party dialogue was either extremely limited or didn't exist at all. While I love having a party and having banter, if Amalur's NPCs have dialogue and the story is engaging I'm not going to avoid it purely because the main character travels alone.

Yeah, I have no issues with not having any followers. I'm fine playing a lone wolf.

I would like to see, but I doubt DA would do it, and it probably wouldn't fit after not having it for two games, but I liked the cross class customization from KoA. Skyrim had it too although you could practically create your own class in the Elder Scrolls games. I like doing a warrior/mage type character. Closest DA came to that was the Arcane Warrior but of course there were no combat abilities. There's a mod for the PC version that gives the AC the warrior talents (s&s, 2 handed and dual) and I love it. Something like that would definitely interest me.

Yeah, I'd much rather have KoA's "Create your class" system than DA's "Choose your class" system.

I think creating your own class could work in DA games.

Though they'd have to trigger mage specific dialogue if you've got any magic.

EDIT-

Then again I just realized that if you had any magic abilities you'd end up classified a mage by the DA populace and you'd either be an apostate or a Circle mage.

That would be lame.

I actually think that creating mixed classes in Dragon Age would work AGAINST the party system, which involves balancing the strengths and weaknesses of the various classes.

At the same time however, you can build your class to sync well with your favorite squadmates.

To be honest, it doesn't matter whether everything with your party jives or not, unless you play on the hardest difficulty.

Hell you can have an all rogue party in DA2(Hawke, Sebastian, Varric, and Isabella) and do just fine.

Switch any of them with a party member of another class and everything still works.

you know, why would an apostate not learn to be a rogue or a fighter? it is not like you can cast magic all the time and still avoid the templars. HOWEVER if you could fight, etc. you could hide your magic for when you really need it.
