The scanning was fine, and... Whats the word? Catatonic? At first, but honestly I am happy to see it go. At least with the mako you could directly drive a vehicle and dick around with the gun, or set personal challenges like climbing a random mountain.

Scanning? Boring, or at best unoffensive. Tying it into actual missions seems like a good idea. Hopefully this means the "N7" missions of ME3 will also be more engaging.

Most of the side missions will spawn from the main missions, so I'd imagine that they'll mean a lot more than those N7 missions did.

I miss it already, and I'm not kidding... Please don't blame me on your suicide note though.

Is it bad that this news actually makes me excited? Also, best use of constructive criticism by Bioware I've seen recently. Will it reassure the naysayers? Please, this is BSN. But for myself, this is another reason for having faith that ME3 will have the strengths of ME and ME2 while correcting the flaws.

Now all I need to hear is the tedious hacking and bypass mini-games are gone, too.

I must confess I am addicted to mineral scanning. I compulsively do it every time I play ME2.

That's also true. The mini games were fine at first but they did disrupt the flow of gameplay.

As I said, it'd break the pace of the game if Shepard just idles around gathering resources while the galaxy is on the brink of annihilation, heh.

It broke the game scanning for minerals while tens of thousands of humans were being abducted.  Removing it because it broke the game is a silly reason.  Removing it because it wasn't that great of a feature is a good idea.

Everyone tweet Preston and ask about details on this! :D Does it involve lots of exploration? Are there vehicles? Ask ask ask! This may be the best feature of ME3 ever! :D

Okay seriously, I just shat my pants laughing.

Oh, now Uranus is most certainly depleted :P

Well anyway, I didn't mind planet scanning the first playthrough, but the second time it got really boring. Seeing as I'll probably play through ME3 as much as I havew ME2, I don't think I could bear to have to do twice as much planet scanning as I already have.

No more planet scanning means more PC players will actually do the missions where you get recources, in ME3 that would be rescue missions. After my first playthrough of ME2 I downloaded Gibbed's savegame editor and gave my shep 9999999 of every mineral just so I didn't have to probe them.

Also, this will in turn make the game more playable in the long run for everyone who buys it. Really good idea imo.

they're replaced. a german magazine i read had interviewed watamaniuk, who noted some things about the new minigames - nothing too detailed though.

edit: We require more mineralzzzzzz...! anyone? :P

Think about it this way.... you can now man a team sent to explore every crevice, curve, and rise on Miranda.  BioWare removed the planet scanning, but has given us the ability to really just get right down deep inside Miranda and really go over every feature from one side to the other.  Inside and out.  Again and again.  And let's face it, no one is going to be happier than Miranda that we're doing it.  What better way to demonstrate the reach and flexibility of humankind than sending a warrior out on a mission of goodwill, even at a time when the galaxy itself is in danger.  Nobility, skill, daring...  Getting to work on Miranda is going to demonstrate all of these things to the Citadel Council.  Let's face it, you know that she is going to beg FemShep to get down there.

So let's get to it.

Boring. Why can't we just buy these upgrades with money? I mean I got like 300k stored up in ME2 doing nothing. I hate exploring from ME1 and I hate scanning from ME2. I bet I'll end up hating this too.

Planet Scanning for anomalies was neat, tracking those down makes sense to me.

But scanning for minerals gets really tedious after so many playthoughs, so I hope planet scanning is not completely gone, but I'm happy the need to farm resources with planet scanning, is gone in ME3.
