Nawh I'm just messing with ya, I'm sure he doesn't hate it... I think.

Well I was once again wasting the remaining minutes of my lunch hour reading up on gaming magazines in WHSmith when I saw another Xbox Magazine (Xbox World I think... meh) and well, turns out no more planet-mining (as in... going around with a huge scanner and probing planets for chunks of minerals).

Instead, the whole scanning for minerals has been replaced with another system. Preston Watamaniuk said along the lines of replacing the mineral scanning with a search and rescue system; you can go around and explore these conflict zones - trying to find survivors and that's pretty much where we will be able to collect minerals and... things. I guess.

They didn't really go into much detail, but it makes sense doesn't it. I mean think about it.

The Reapers are destroying all life in the galaxy and I don't think Shepard can be seen in ME3 just... casually floating around a random planet and stripping it bare of resources at his own pace. I mean he could! But... well, yanno... *points back at Earth and entire planet is being razed* and... *points at Shepard, who is grinning/drooling as he gathers 2000 worth of Eezo*, yeah. You may as well let the Reapers win, heh.

The magazine says Preston is the 'probe-hating lead designer' but I didn't want to put probe hating on the thread title as it could... well... double entendre etc.

So yeah, guess you can't *stifles laughter* probe Uranus anymore... heheh, heh.... ehhh....

*Sighs heavily and rubs temple* Sorry.

I wondered if they were going to do something like this =]

If people complain of planet scanning's absense, I will jump out my window.

And I will commit hari kari. Seriously, this sounds WAY better. Thank f*cking god they had the common sense to ditch it.

Hmm can't say I care that the resource scanning is gone, but how will you get materials now, or is that going out of the game for good? (Resources for upgrades that is) I guess they could make it all mission pick ups if its kept in.

Good, I like the sound of resource collection being better integrated with missions and such.

I'll only get behind vehicle exploration if they do it right this time. Meaning it doesn't handle like crap, and it's armor isn't made out of paper. Also.

Think about it this way.... you can now man a team sent to explore every crevice, curve, and rise on Miranda.  BioWare removed the planet scanning, but has given us the ability to really just get right down deep inside Miranda and really go over every feature from one side to the other.  Inside and out.  Again and again.  And let's face it, no one is going to be happier than Miranda that we're doing it.  What better way to demonstrate the reach and flexibility of humankind than sending a warrior out on a mission of goodwill, even at a time when the galaxy itself is in danger.  Nobility, skill, daring...  Getting to work on Miranda is going to demonstrate all of these things to the Citadel Council.  Let's face it, you know that she is going to beg FemShep to get down there.

So let's get to it.

You're my second favorite person on BSN.

they're replaced. a german magazine i read had interviewed watamaniuk, who noted some things about the new minigames - nothing too detailed though.

edit: We require more mineralzzzzzz...! anyone? :P

I quite like the mineral scanning I'm sad that its gone, I'd rather scan planets for minerals than drive the mako.

I'd say "pre-order cancelled", but I cancelled it when they shrinked Liara's figurines' boobs already.

I like this idea of living people / ships / etc being resources. I think its an awesome way to incorporate some kind of missions into the resource gathering while keeping the overall gameplay the same.

I also hope that there is some kind of bonus carry over for the resources collected in ME1 and ME2.

Especially in ME1 - e.g the Alliance fleet is larger and stronger if you collected all the minerals in ME1.

I’m glad to see the planet scanning go. It was a bad replacement for the Mako planet exploring missions.

However I’m addicted to the Hacking-Bypass mini-games. So much so, that in DXHR I hacked every computer, door or safe even if I had the password or access code.

Yesyesyesyesyes that's the one! Cripes... all I see on the cover is XBOX and... yeah there are too many of them :P

Yanno, it's nice to see so many... varied yet 'along-the-same-lines' view people have about the mineral scanning. Honestly, don't get me wrong! I didn't mind planet-scanning at all, it was great. It was very addictive. And then as I replayed ME2 multiple times I realised that the task became a chore. And I didn't like that. Atleast this time it'll be tackled another way. Good stuff, I'll also tweet Preston and beg for info :P

Search and Rescue Missions, I'm liking the sound of this already!
But rather than walking up to a mineral and scanning it like ME1, why not just let us press a button near it and have it "tagged" for the Normandy to deal with and keep the momentum going.

If not then maybe we could do these missions via Batmobile?
