The same goes for Origin, it is in no way shape or form anywhere close to being anything that Steam is. The service lacks several basic features that a download client should have (such as a backup facility). So why should I give my £60 to EA so they can shove their inferior service down my throat ? Yes I will quite happily miss out on Mass Effect 3 but another company will benefit when I spend my money on their products rather than EA's. Now if enough people do that then you might find EA think about changing it's ways. That is why I say put your money where your mouth is.
This times a million. Steam is a storefront that has many titles that directly compete with Valve titles. Why? Because Valve knows good games sell. They can sell their games and promote quality titles from competitors at the same time and everyone makes money. Now, imagine Origin offering the latest Call of Duty? Pretty funny, right? What does Origin have, like 30-40 games
total? It'll never happen on EA's side and you can be sure other publishers would never, ever put their games on Origin. EA is only in it for their shareholders and no one else (which is understandable to an extent!). Yet, they treat potential customers like dirt. I will most certainly be putting my money where my mouth is. Forced Origin installation, supports SOPA, tried a hostile takeover of Take Two, online passes, trying to control the digital gaming market, etc. etc. I still don't know how anyone can defend EA. They make Activision look like choir members.
Hopefully, in a few years EA will be focused soley on Facebook / iOS / casual market games. The sooner they get out of "core" titles the better.
