As far as the GFWL issue goes I really got angry when I lost my saves to Batman Arkham City.  It seems like its the steam version that is affected but the theory is that its a mix of GFWL and Steam and it seems to be around 80% of full completion when your save files disappear.
Thanks microsoft for that.

I had that issue with AC, too.  Lost my file after about 15 hours and 40%.  Uninstalled after finding a terrible lack of community/dev communication and no solution in sight.

That's one feather in EA's cap.  At least Origin isn't as bad as GFWL.

Can't deny that, same happened to me with HoMM6 using it. Lost hours of progress when "their" servers had issues and my connection was running at 100% normal.

True. However, they did sign their own "death warrant" when they merged with EA, so....I guess we should feel pitty for the once great studio, above all else.

It's a bit hard to just shoot EA innit. They've kinda fused together, like a Scion

They sort of do. I mean, they knew what they were getting into when they sold themselves to EA. Whats happening to BW has already happened to Westwood/EA C&C team.

But they didn't sell themselves to EA. EA bought the holding company that Bioware and Pandemic were a part of.

Hey, Origin just updated and I do believe there is a change to the EULA. Can anybody confirm or deny? A lot of it has to do with how they collect and use information. From what it looks like it is a lot more clear and sound...hope it means their legal department has been busy.

Sorry if this was already brought up but I'm a bit preoccupied to do any comparisons tonight or look through some 50 odd pages of this thread.

However, I really do not accept the criticism that WE, BioWare and EA, are wrong for not offering it on Steam. We would like to offer it on Steam. We used to have a good relationship with Steam. The more stores and digital retailers who sell our games, the more customers can buy the games and the money we can make. We are working with digital retailers like Direct2Drive and others so we are not Origin exclusive by any means. Unfortunately, Steam changed their policies and we are currently not able to come to an agreement that allows us to be on Steam. We were on Steam for ME2. We were on Steam for Dragon Age II until we had to remove it, again because Steam changed their policies. We would be on Steam now if their policies allowed us to be there. I do not know if a significant number of fans complaining to Steam that they want Mass Effect 3 to be on Steam will have an effect or not, but it certainly will not hurt. Steam is a great service and I would hope that we will work with them if it becomes possible for us to do so.

Then why would Bioware and/or EA require a program that has gotten alot of hate? you guys have to know that lost you sales. Smart business decision.

I would be better than SecuROM if it wasn't for the clumsy data mining and threat of ban from owned games. Whatever they improve now on the DRM, the damage cleanup isn't coming soon enough for ME3.

Just paid the $200 for a PS3 so I could play those games. Exclusives suck.

Fortunetely you can count them on one hand this generation (excluding Kinect/Move shovelware of course and Nintendo titles). Last generation it was much worse. This is one of the few good things about this gen, no more exclusive games from 3rd party publishers

While I would prefer that ME3 be available on Steam, I don't have a problem with Origin. In fact, I like the Origin implementation, because it means if I buy the physical disc (like I am with the Collector's Edition) I can download, install, and play it any time without the disc. C'mon, people. Steam does the same thing with Steamworks games.  At least it's not like Ubisoft's draconian constant internet connection DRM.

Anyways, yeah, still preordered.

Did they ditch the limited installs thing? That was the big deal that upset me so much, if I buy a game, I want it for life. I have no real personal info on my gaming machine, so there isn't much info they can steal. That's beside the point though.

The same goes for Origin, it is in no way shape or form anywhere close to being anything that Steam is.  The service lacks several basic features that a download client should have (such as a backup facility).  So why should I give my £60 to EA so they can shove their inferior service down my throat ?  Yes I will quite happily miss out on Mass Effect 3 but another company will benefit when I spend my money on their products rather than EA's.  Now if enough people do that then you might find EA think about changing it's ways.  That is why I say put your money where your mouth is.

This times a million.  Steam is a storefront that has many titles that directly compete with Valve titles.  Why?  Because Valve knows good games sell.  They can sell their games and promote quality titles from competitors at the same time and everyone makes money.  Now, imagine Origin offering the latest Call of Duty?  Pretty funny, right?  What does Origin have, like 30-40 games total?  It'll never happen on EA's side and you can be sure other publishers would never, ever put their games on Origin.  EA is only in it for their shareholders and no one else (which is understandable to an extent!).  Yet, they treat potential customers like dirt.  I will most certainly be putting my money where my mouth is.  Forced Origin installation, supports SOPA, tried a hostile takeover of Take Two, online passes, trying to control the digital gaming market, etc. etc.  I still don't know how anyone can defend EA.  They make Activision look like choir members.

Hopefully, in a few years EA will be focused soley on Facebook / iOS / casual market games.  The sooner they get out of "core" titles the better.

are we angry that ME3 is an origin exclusive, or that bioware dissed and lied about steam?

im for the latter, origin is really not THAT bad, remember steam back in 2004?

I have already installed Origin and activated my games through it, so this requirement is nothing for me. But the Collector's Edition price is a little bit high, compared to Mass Effect 2 CE (Almost equal content). I surely want to buy Mass Effect 3 in day one, but i cannot afford almost 2x price for the CE.

And ahother opinion: I know that EA changed their localization plans, but i can't understand, why they cannot make the Hungarian translation for ME3. The other two episodes comes with that, and many of our players dissapointed if they cannot understand the final chapter.

P.S.: This is only a suggestion, personally i don't bother with it, but many are.

Thank you for sour hard work for bringing for us this great series! :)

Mine updated yesterday. 8.4.1 came out January 6th IIRC.

Version 8.4.1
Users can now change their Origin ID from the Settings menu.
Password security has been improved. Users with less secure passwords will be asked to choose a new password.
Required updates can now be delayed without disrupting access to Origin’s offline mode.
A number of small bug fixes have been made.

That is all it did.

I neither like or dislike Origin much the same as I view Steam, so do a huge amount of people who have actually used it but as you said it is actually quite early stages, even on the client it is still called Origin (Beta).  Though I am less kind about Ubisofts version because of bad experiences of losing saves due to connection lost.

No, I think most folks are angry over the fact that they cannot purchase their Mass Effect 3 game where they choose.  Every other digital retailer, plus the brick and mortor retailers will be selling ME3.  Steam is the only major game retailer left off of the list.  This ultimately hurts the consumer, not anyone else.

But you now have Bioware making the next C&C, good news to some. The game will probably be good regardless of other peoples issues with EA. Even if myself I did not like the Original C&C Generals so not keen on following one.

I still have my digital preorder in place, and I have to thank Gamersgate for this since I'm barred from buying directly from EA (oh, the hoops I have to go through for a legit copy). Anyway, it would be fair to assume that better transparency from Origin DRM is still in time to be implemented until March. Let's see...
