Just writing back to confirm. Both games work fine with Origin uninstalled. I bought both through the EA store, so these are digital copies, not retail. This isn't a guarantee for how ME3 will behave in Origin, so take it as you will.

Good to hear. However is there any DLCs for those games installed?

Stopping piracy is a fallacy. Pirates are always going to get what they want. All you do by making intrusive DRM is create more pirates.

I've never understood why you need to have this type of DRM on a physical store bought version of the game anyway. I'd rather go back to having to keep the disk in the drive than deal with this crap.

They must think it is going to increase profit. Businesses as large as EA usually don't make uninformed business choices.

It is either stop pirates or horde DLC money. I think it is the DLC with the offset chance of stopping a small % of the pirates.

Oh, it's definitely the DLC. Aggressive DLC marketing has been EA's business plan for the past few years, it's no secret. And of course they don't want to give Valve a slice of the pie if they can avoid it, so they're pushing Origin with their high profile games. It's not a business practice I am particularily comfortable with.

Oh well, I'm going to bed. I wonder if this thread will be open tomorrow when I wake up.

Bed sounds like a plan.

And I'm wondering the same thing about this thread.

Good night good ME fans. <3

Thank you very much sackyhack for checking this for us! Of course I realize this may not be the same for ME3, but it's a good sign. The one thing I still need to know is whether we will still have to install Origin every time we install ME3 (after uninstalling the game itself), especially in retail copies.

Agreed.

I understand it sort of for the digital versions. But why with physical version? *sighs* (the DRM bit not the rest of it.)

Just give me the option between Origin and keeping the disk in the damn drive.

Is there any ''good' reason to have running origin in background while playing ME3 in single player???

They should just do what they did with ME1 and ME2, regardless this game is likely my last Bioware/EA game.

ME1 used SecuROM. How is that better than Origin?

One-time activation. No digital distribution software needed. Nothing running in the background.

Let's not forget that you were limited to 3 installs and if you tried to remove SecuROM from your computer you couldn't play the game anymore. Also, Origin doesn't need to run in the background if you're playing a single player game.

Limited installs is more inconvienence, can be addressed, also Origin not being run in background has not been entirely addressed as of yet, although I would hope that they have a shred of common sense and you are right...

Pulled the words out of my mouth. I kept saying that DRM doesn't prevent piracy, only encumbers paying customers. Seems like none of the publishers thought of it this way.

My parents taught me to use protection if I wanted to have casual sex.

When its my turn to be a parent, I'm gonna teach my kids to sandbox if they wanted to play EA games.

I have Arkham City and Alice Madness Returns through Origin. Origin was needed to install them, but after that I just run them through the shortcuts and haven't booted up Origin since. Just thought I'd mention this for the people asking about Origin and singleplayer. If it's anything like those games, you need it once to install then don't need it anymore. Ofcourse that one time is all it needs to send notice of your pirated tentacle pr0n collection to the FBI, but it's likely you won't always need it on for SP.

Were you able to play with the client uninstalled (Origin).

Good news in part, although I don't think those games are EA controlled directly, do you have a copy of BF3 which you could test SP? And thx for the testing.

No I don't have BF3, tired of modern shooters.  But Alice is an EA published game.  However, ME3 could behave differently and be more reliant on Origin if it has something like ME2's Cerberus network which gave you news and dlc updates in-game.  Though it could just as likely just be optional like it was in ME2 if you didn't have a constant internet connection.

I don't know, call me sheep, sheeple, whatever.  My whole life is on Facebook and I don't have anything to hide on my PC, and my gmail's spam filter takes care of the rest.  This Origin doesn't bother me a bit.

Doesn't effect me but I do see both sides in the argument. From a business stand point what EA has done helps their online service as well get a better handle on piracy that's been running rampant on PC's.As the buyer however their is absolutely no reason spyware or  functions should be initiated by downloaded software or by making the OS look for files(even if you if you have nothing to hide).

The simple fix to me would be to eliminate that function in the software , but that's how I would take care of the problem.Either way I'm console person , but I do understand the anger and cancelling of pre-orders.

I always say if you don't like what's in a product or the way the product handled is to buy used , rent or in this case boycott altogether.Just my two cents

No.  Wasn't compelled to buy any Alice dlc and Batman's dlc is handled through GFWL (which makes Origin look like a gift from the gods), so I can't comment on that.

And no one will bother about you because you're insignificant. You probably have nothing in your bank and live off welfare.

For the rest of us productive citizens with adequate finances however, we have every right to be worried. AND ANGRY.

I'm really interested to see if it's possible to play ME3 MP with a sandboxed Origin now.

I only mention that because both those games appeared on Steam, and although yes this goes into the whole DLC thing, it could be different. TBH the ability to run it completely independent of Origin after 1 time activation is crucial.

You have to keep in mind that, some games are developed by independant company, such as Arkham, and KoA:R in the latest case. They can be played without Origin. Not so sure about Alice. I'm just worried that they will tie ME3's .exe to Origin, like some games are on Steam.

Alice is an EA created game though, and if that one runs without Origin installed, then it's a good sign.
