What really pisses me off is this whole trying to make games into social media. What happened to the days where i could just play a single player mode of a game and have no hoops to jump through. Just leave me the hell alone, i don't want to have facebook on my single player games. Now we have Steam, battle.net, now spyware - i mean Origin. Where does it end?

tl;dr - Leave me the hell alone with all this unnecessary BS when i want to play a single player game.

Just an opinion... not a fact.

There were some posters earlier on this thread that already declared so. I have the same feeling there will be many cosplayers now.

Exactly - everytime I load up origings to play BF3 - "Games are better with friends!" throws itself on me.

I DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS!

SCOTCH IS BETTER WITH FRIENDS! NOT GAMES I PLAY FOR SINGLE PLAYER! Stop telling me what I NEED to better enjoy MY games.

I too miss the days of the past, when gaming was simple, and this even applies to consoles, not just PC gaming.

But its gone too far to change now, plus in the case of PC gaming, a degree of DRM is needed, just has to be within reason.

Can you play BF3 single player from the exe? or are you forced to run origin, and if not too much trouble, can you run with Origin uninstalled?

True enough, though I personally miss the days when you bought a game and got the complete product...none of these pre-order bonuses and Day 1 DLC rubbish.

As for Origin, I suppose it's a good sign if someone can uninstall it and continue to play the game, though there's no telling if that will be the case for ME3.

There might be some tom foolery way of getting around it - but even so - I think it still loads up the browser as well.

They're being awfully docile about Sandboxing. Usually they'd quickly jump in and say its not allowed, or close the thread completely.

I'm worried...maybe they've found a way to overcome it.

Guess I won't be seeing the end of Shepard's adventures after all.

Thanks for the update, guys. I won't be installing Origin on my system, so you lost yourselves a sale.

Edit: Thinking about it, perhaps not just a sale. If this is the way it's going to be going forward - with the last part of a trilogy having a requirement to sell my personal privacy and computer security - I will be thinking long and hard about buying any EA/BioWare games at all, which makes me sad.

Same, not gonna buy it anymore, I have Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Steam, all my friends are on Steam, all my screenshots/videos/comments/recommidations/saves/inventory items are as well.

Sigh.

Someone mentioned here that BF3 uses Origin as the main menu or something? I hope it's not that far integrated in the game. I'll be damned if ME3's main menu is on Origin's browser.

Yeah - BF3 uses your default browser that loads up all the multiplayer stats etc when you open it. From there there is a 'link' to open the single player game.

I recently read a mention of being able to set Origin to offline mode and that the Battlefield 3 singleplayer could be played in offline mode.  *shrugs*  I don't know what to think at this stage.

Day 1 ignore.
Rail road us into your spyware, DRM ridden excuse of a digital distribution platform then complain that steam won't allow you to do what you wish the the sale of DLC [which hasn't had a price reduction since being released I might add] and still expect the good will your fanbase?

Call this entitled by all means but a publisher & perhaps developer trying to control where and how a customer chooses to use a product is comparable to *removed* =]
Get ****ed.

They cant overcome it, without having control of your computer - thats kind of the point.

1st - Nothing that touches the internet is private.
2nd - The gaming trend is obvious, more and more gaming companies are going to switch to Steam, Origin, etc.

You're options...
  • Continue complaining/ranting.
  • Purchase a gaming console.
  • Purchase/build a dedicated gaming computer.
  • Take up tabletop gaming to fill the void.
  • Become a dedicated reader of "Choose Your Own Adventure" books to fill the void.
I tried the first point, but I kept hearing "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome" (as read by Eastwood playing Gunnery Sgt. Tom Highway in Heatbreak Ridge). =]

Edit: Fixed
