Guys, come on. Let's be rational here. You're overreacting to this origin thing. If it was really so bad, do you think millions of pc gamers who bought TOR would have? Come on people.

Origin is only required depending on where you bought it.

I have bought TOR, physical copy as always and there is no Origin requirement.

My point right there.

no, was the same seller. I don't wanted the wheel rim, so they were changed. The seller wanted my money, so he cared.

I'm betting this can be broken down into several catagories

1. Genuine concern over the EULA.  Most rational reason which many here seem to be a part of.

2. Spyware scare.  Proof has been shown that this is no longer an issue and that it's no more intrusive than Steam.

3. Hate for the sake of Hate:  It's the Internet, this is common, apparantly you are required to hate EA if you use the Internet.

4. Trolls:  See number 3.

5. Steam Hammer Legion not wanting competition to there most sacred of services.

I'm sure the vast majority here can be grouped in catagory 1.

I just feel the rest of it is just poking to get a reaction or people just having fun with others.

Origin client is not required for TOR.

This really is sad news. Valve is known for being very friendly to devs and companies using Steam. Steam has a huge install base, and LOYAL customers. I myself will NOT be getting ME3 unless its on Steam. While EA and other companies gave up on the PC Steam was there, Steam was there with crazy deals, awesome support, great services, Im loyal to Steam for the way they treat their customers.

Your just going to hurt your name and sales by ignoring Steam. Steam is essentially PC gaming. I already hate Origin for using BF3. Its COMPLETELY useless. Its nowhere near Steams functionality, the overlay feature in-game, friends, etc. Badmouthing Steam is even worse. So many of us are loyal to Steam for continuing support for PC gaming.

Steam offers viewing game DLC and content, how does this impede you getting services to your customers? Steam offers news and updates for games, how does this hurt you? This is an obvious move to shove origin down our throats, and control Piracy. Origin does not stop Piracy, releasing services and customer support and listening to your community stops piracy.

So very sad to hear this news. Really changed my view of EA and Bioware. You can keep your Origin required crap, I wont be buying your game.

For me, I hope Origin allows more games and, at least more importantly to me, more back cataloged titles like KOTOR I & II and Jade Empire. I have no issues at this point with Origin and Mass Effect 3 will be my first purchase using the Origin Client (although all my DA and ME titles were from digital downloads from the EA Store before Origin was announced.)

KotOR: owned by LucasArts
KotOR II: owned by LucasArts and not made by Bioware.
Jade Empire: owned by Microsoft

KOTOR 1 and Jade Empire you want?

store.steampowered.com/app/32370/

store.steampowered.com/app/7110/

KOTOR 2 will almost certainly never see the light of day on digital distribution, due to a mixture of rights issues, and the fact that it was quite broken on release, and needs fan-made patches to "help" it.

Which is a fair enough view-point. Nothing to say that EA couldn't use one-time serial activation like SecuRom for the physical release, other than them wanting to force Origin onto people (for whatever reason).

Unless we get a final answer that you can actually uninstall Origin after the initial activation. Then it's a hassle, but not actually a permenant one.

It will still scan what it scans, and report what it reports, on that one-time use, and it will likely still to be reinstalled for each DLC you want to get, both for the download (because actual install files will go away) and for the validation.

Jade Empire was published by 2k games wasn't it?

Well, can I just shutdown the Origin startup processes using CCleaner, deactivate my network card whenever I want to play to go offline, then play? Afterward I would manually go and shutdown Origin before reactivating my network card. That way, Origin would never be able to send my information to EA.

If EA had his way it probably would be chained up to Origin, but since the game has been in development before EA bought Bioware, it's required to be online anyway and EA doesn't own Star Wars, they have no valid argument to do so. Same goes for KoA: R, which is made by a privately owned developer.

Could be. It was published by Microsoft on the XBox and that's all I know. But then again, the PC version came years later.

Yes, it's the same when EA said there are 4 mill Origin users. Nobody knows if there are 4 mill different users. But everybody knows Origin registers itself after installation. 4 mill user could also mean 2 mill user had installed Origin two times or the best: 1 user has installed Origin 4 mill times :D

LucasArts, Microsoft (JE console version), 2KGames (JE retail pc version) and Valve (JE Steam version) published those.  KOTOR II will never see a re-release because LucasArts pulled a Dragon Age 2 by pushing out an rpg in a little more than a year.  Those other two are available on Steam!

Kind of funny EA is having a hissy fit because of Steam "forcing" them to sell their DLC on Steam.  Meanwhile,

I think they barely have hit 2 million now.  I suspect they were hopeing for more, but anyways Origin is not required for SWTOR.

I've already used it once to buy Pinnacle Station and uninstalled right after I downloaded it. It ain't THAT much of a problem to me if I use it one to authorize the game, even if it already scans my computer. I don't want to be forced to have Origin installed each time I want to play the game, or each time I reinstall the game after performing that 1-time initial authorization. I don't want my game to be tied to Origin to the degree that EA may just make my ME3 unplayable if they feel like one day, for whatever reason (forum ban, anything else). We've already seen what happens with Origin-tied games when EA bans or delets someone's Origin account. Not to even mention all the horror stories I've read about people having tons of problems to get BF3 and FIFA12 even start with the entire Origin integration.

1) Will Origin be a requirement to play all versions of Mass Effect 3? (Digital and/or from a retail brick and mortar store)
Yes, Origin is required for all PC editions of Mass Effect 3, physical or digital.

Well, I know what I'm not buying.

What would the best way to go about organizing such a thing? There is nothing happening right now, but if anyone were to organize such a movement, I'm up to being a part of the vanguard.

Problem is, it would probably need promotion from here, at least to start with. And that thread would get locked down so fast...

Maybe contact a website? Rock Paper Shotgun?

You can create groups on here, and can mention it in threads while still addressing the topic.  Also, you could make a thread on here stating in the way that, in the opinion of fans, Origin being optional would be better not just for EA titles as a whole, but also for BioWare and Mass Effect while giving evidence.

It should go further than this forum though, as this is an EA affiliated forum.  The more people that look into it the better.

@Mister Mida / Emoking / Thoth_Amon:

Thanks for the clarifications on where they can be downloaded and how they are published.  However, that does not change the fact that I would still like to have seen them on Origin.  Interestingly, I could still purchase KOTOR I & II at retail stores.
