Gamming. LOL.
That said yeah I will be getting a dedicated gaming desktop but still...I really shouldn't have to.

1st - Nothing that touches the internet is private.
2nd - The gamming trend is obvious, more and more gaming companies are going to switch to Steam, Origin, etc.
You're options...I tried the first point, but I kept hearing "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome" (as read by Eastwood playing Gunnery Sgt. Tom Highway in Heatbreak Ridge).
- Continue complaining/ranting.
- Purchase a gamming console.
- Purchase/build a dedicated gamming computer.
- Take up tabletop gamming to fill the void.
- Become a dedicated reader of "Choose Your Own Adventure" books to fill the void.
"gamming"
*facepalm*

Seems like they do not know about the data mining bit to Origin.

They're being awfully docile about Sandboxing. Usually they'd quickly jump in and say its not allowed, or close the thread completely.
I'm worried...maybe they've found a way to overcome it.
There is no way they have a leg to stand on by claiming that system sandboxing - the accepted standard in personal security - is DRM circuvention. If someone actually gets their account banned for sandboxing, that will be class action lawsuit gold.

Their EULA says they can terminate your account for pretty much any reason without notice...

Seems like one hell of a backstep from the DRM employed by the retail version of ME2 though.

Guess what, the EULA that you agree too insists that you waive your right to take part in a "class action lawsuit".

I find it funny people are surprised about this. I knew it was going to be origin exclusive. But why they have to insult our intelligence by saying their opting out of Steam because its Valve's fault is beyond me.
Media spin.
Putting themselves in a favorable position and Valve in a negative one, though Valve would do the same. Its just corporate politics and greed.
Additionally addressing it publicly is a way to sort of attack steam, Origins biggest "competitor."

Thanks for actually giving a definitive answer in a somewhat timely fashion though, and not waiting until a week before release. At least now I can set that money aside to use on a more deserving game.

Look, I'll be honest. This saddens me, A LOT. Specially the part they say about Steam, where I started my PC gaming addiction because of its lovely sales AND where I got Mass Effect 1 on a cheap sale, got in love with and bought DDE for ME2. I know this is COMPLETE BS by EA. "...Which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content". Yeah, right.
And NO, Origin is not a service like Steam. Their software/community/user integration is MILES away from what Steam does. Y' know Battlelog for BF3? How it does everything on the multiplayer side? Yeah, it's not like what Steam/Steamworks does for other games. Origin is COMPLETELY USELESS to BF3. IT'S A GLORIFIED DRM. I wonder how mp in ME3 will be handled. I won't be surprised if it receives a Battlelog of sorts, and Origin does NOTHING but suck your RAM.
Guys, I have BF3. It will probably be just like that: you double click ME3 executable, it won't run the game, it will run Origin, then Origin will run ME3. Offline mode, or not
...But like I said. I'll be honest. I'll buy ME3 for my PC. I bought BF3. I don't regret it.

It doesn't look every file. It mostly looks on files related to Origin itself.ejoslin wrote...
My issue with Origin is that it scans and sends back to EA the name of every file on my computer. I really don't care what they do with it; I just care that it is done to begin with. This is far beyond what Steam does. I won't be buying ME3, but I probably wouldn't have anyway. I just hope this trend ends before DA3 comes out.

While this is bad news for me, I appreciate the clear answer.
I have a feeling a lot of users would appreciate it if this got stickied.
And with this EA is on my personal blacklist same as UBIsoft and a few others. A shame that some publishers wants to push customer offensive DRM so hard.

Wow... this happened fast. This may have been answered already. Regarding the first of your bullets Chris P... can I install Origin, authenticate ME3, uninstall Origin and then play the single player campaign as I will?
They really need to answer that.
