Not only privacy is a concern, there are multiple other reasons why people don't want Origin. A quick example in an analogy:

Apple: Use iTunes, we have the largest music library all in one store" (some people hate, most people use)

SonyBMG: Hey music friends, we just developed the totally awesome SonyTunes! From this moment on all your favourite SonyBMG music will be available there. Oh right, you can only listen to the songs in SonyTunes, and btw, we don't want to cooperate with Apple anymore because 99c per song isn't enough, so don't expect our stuff on iTunes anymore... (some people: "Hey, alright, competition is great!" *run iTunes and SonyTunes simultanously, listen to the Beatles on iTunes and switch to SonyTunes for the Stones*)

Universal: Oh hey, look what Sony did! We can do that better! We'll pull our albums from iTunes and sell our stuff through our new UniversalMusicPlayer!

(etc. etc.)

Just one example why one could be against Origin, other than EULA and spyware.

That's how the world goes...their game...their rules. If maybe Steam is not greedy to take part of the profits from someone else works then this wouldn't happened

How long ago has this been implemented? Because last time I installed Steam (late summer last year or so) it never asked if I wanted to send certain information.

It has never shown me what it sends either. But I know it sends information too and I have it installed right now.

Because hosting and marketing is free, right? How dare they ask money for hosting content and the use bandwith?

Keyword : Survey

This is one of the things I've been talking about. The Surveys have always been optional, because GabeN is a nice guy, this is not opting out of any scanning Steam normally does.

Well, there's a cancel button right there. I suppose it cancels the operation?

No. Customers make the rules. If there's nobody who pays them money, they won't be in any position to force anyone into anything. To stay with the analogy above, see how many companies tried to compete with Apple and lost, because the customers already decided on one store.

People should have been up in arms about them decades ago, now there is a precedent set and the publishers will dig their heels in until forced to do otherwise by outside forces.

Decades?

More like five, ten years tops.

It's the social networking that has made it KEWL to share each and every aspect of anyone's lives. No matter how boring, no matter how embarassing. It's only natural that companies are trying to do the nasty, since all too many people no longer care. Add to this the hysterics of governmental agencies in their supposed war on terror and you have the perfect mix of the "I've got nothing to hide" generation.

Signing away fundamental rights for a cookie and a pat on the back seems all the rage these days.

A store that is as data hungry as the next company, one might add.

I'm not going to discuss this with you, you have omitted a lot of posts I made about the matter. Read up on it yourself.

SOPA will destroy Internet, Origin is just EA's Steam that people still think today it's spyware.

Hehe,  I consider Steam also spyware. Any program that collects information from users computer and sends it outside to sertain company is spyware.

All web-brosers also send information outside but it's not usually targeted to anyone.

You have to opt in, to have overall system scanning enhabled, by default you are not opted in I believe, also see the other page where the individual has the screenshot of the confirmation, although I myself have never seen it.

Also Dragoonlordz just a troll I pwned horrendously about 100 pages back, don't give his words much more than a second thought, because hes fishing for flames, trolls like fire, contrary to fantasy lore.

I thought they dropped out unless being part of  the ESA (with many members from the same organization that despise the legislation) means that EA is just secretly supporting them.

Yes, ESA is supportive of SOPA, and EA is a member of it.

But so are Epic, Nvidia, and Trion who have all announced opposition to SOPA. :?

That indeed wasn't clear, as you responded to the screenshot up here. But yes, Steam doesn't allow to opt out, because it's an opt in feature.

Yup I never considered Steam OMG wonderful. Just felt less llike a kick in the nads.

Both of them are worthless bloatware as far as I'm concerned. Steam's **** is just easier to swallow.

The question you want answered with that is whether disk copies will still be able to be activated/run without Origin, although I can't see them discontinuing it shortly after. Regardless I wouldn't buy the digital Origin copy if you are insistent on proceeding to play ME3 in light of Origin, I would recommend the disk copy, so at least you have all the data as well as a physical key.
