Wouldn't surprise me if Origin still tries to access those other partitions at some point in the future.

I've given it some thought. I'm not going to cancel my pre-order. I'm instead going to partition my drive, and have Origin on the partition along with an operating system and ME3, and *nothing* else.

No alternative, really. I didn't buy BF3 because of Origin, and I was really looking forward to it as well. Unless I'm prepared to miss ME3 as well, I'll have to go to some trouble isolating Origin... I'll keep thinking about it. It's not too late for me to change my mind and just watch the game completed on youtube.

Yeah I thought about doing this too. I have a second machine I don't use much I could strip and just use it for me3 too, or partition like you said on my main box. But man, we shuoldn't HAVE to do this ****.

There is one way, to get rid of origin:

DON'T BUY ME 3! NOT ON PC AND NOT ON ANY CONSOLE!

Stand together and loyal to each other. Nethertheless Console or Pc. If we stand together against Origin we will win. Isn't this the old american dream. So, dont' dream it, live it!

I think Origin scans your registry keys as well as other drives.. not entirely sure on that. Partition wouldn't work if this is the case.

I have seen Origin and Steam scan registries but they seemed to stay within the confines of there own programs.  So they only scanned Origin/Steam related registries.

I'll hav eto double check then later.

Not a bad idea. I may just play ME3, and get rid of everything Bioware on my PC and never have anything to do with them again. They are steadily going down a path that doesn't interest me, embracing cheap marketing stunts over quality games.

IF you must buy and play ME3, at least do what others have said and protect yourself.

Just remember that when you buy a game with an Origin requirement, EA will take that as support and/or consent.

Totally in agreement with that statement there.

If you can check if they scan non-Steam/Origin related registries or not, please report back in here. Thanks. Scanning files is one thing, but I have no idea how to monitor registries.

I'll have to ask around. I might hit up a german forum. They were the whistleblowers on Origin and I'm sure they know the most about it, being even more super serious about their privacy than we are. If Origin does circumvent the partition trick then I'll have to consider other means of acquiring or enjoying ME3. Either cloud gaming, watching it completed along the paths I'd have chosen, or simply getting it by other means. Although I'm a novice in the latter regard, a paying customer through and through.

Dunno what to do. I won't stop paying.. I just might have to give the game a miss.

It's heartening to see how they start to crumble.

For me it's a principle. No client enters my hard drive. I'm not that sure that ME3 hasn't taken the streamlining express anyway.

if you guys don't keep this ME3 related you're going to get it locked.

ME3 plus Origin- and how most of us find that hugely discouraging- is an ME3 topic, isn't it?

Well, to be fair, ME3 related covers:

Origin and it being forced on us with ME3.

The lack of ME3 on Steam.

So, so far, I think, we're okay. :)

If it's not on Steam, I don't buy it. Especially not buying if it needs Origin. So another customer lost (yes I know, they don't care unless they lose a significant amout of customers, but oh well).

That's my basic plan and I do want to finish what I started in ME and ME 2. Likewise, since EA took over, I don't like the unneccesarry baggage added to games now (Origin, EULA, TOS, Privacy).

I canceled my CE pre-order yesterday. Will wait for more info on dealing with Origin hoping I can live with what it does or sandbox what I don't like. In any event, I view Origin as the end of an era and the herald of another game era that I don't want to have anything to do with. And I reformat and reinstall Windows every couple of years anyway to clear out the junk.

Now the bolded part is a concern to me, I think I am one of very few who didn't like ME2 as much as ME1 due to streamlining or also known as refining/improving. But they did promise to bring back some of ME1 charm and not go much deeper into streamline territory. So don't go bursting my bubble right yet, I'm hoping they don't mess up the quality of the game.

the console guys don't give a f about us, as a matter of fact nobody give a f about pc players anymore, look at ubifail how many games that used to be made on pc they've deleted, ea the same thing, they hate us, why do u thing this origin bul***t is only on our version of the game, they treat us all pc gamers the same - pirates. ubifail, months ago, was saying that 95% of pc gamers are pirates hahahahah :bandit:

Imo, they are focusing on short term profits vs long term profits. With enough hype and marketing you can sell a bag sh*t to the masses. So many people buy into it initially that it doesn't matter if the game is crap and gamers abandone it in the long run.

DA2 is the template.

I was just skimming and It seemed like it turned more into "does origin actually have spyware in it" topic. And we all know priestly would love a reason to lock this.

Enjoy being scanned by Steam with cleverly said lie that you have an option for not being scanned.

And yet, ME2 is more complex then ME1.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that ORIGIN IS STILL IN BETA EA with Battlefield 3 and now Mass Effect 3 are basically requiring you to use beta software! That's UNACCEPTABLE! I was foolish enough to buy BF3 with its Origin requirement. Also, I noticed that EA added Dragon Age II to Origin even though I bought it via Impulse. I never gave them permission to do that, they just went ahead and did it! I bought TOR via Origin but TOR thankfully does not require Origin to run.

I think most people who said "why are you surprised, what harm is it using it, etc. etc." - well its no surprise obviously to most but a big disappointment. And those that say "its no big deal" obviously have never used Origin before. Its a clunky rip-off of the Steam interface that's also a memory hog - no game in their right mind would want a program taking that much memory running in their background while gaming.

Fact of the matter is, I have ME1 and 2 via steam. Why would I want them through any other service. Also, if DLC is such an issue - why are ME1 and 2 which both have DLC delivered outside of Steam STILL available on Steam? Its only those games EA wanted to deliver DLC through Origin including several that were removed after Origin launched. When EA started Origin they said they want to provide every option for obtaining their content, yet soon afterwards they started removing games from Steam and not one EA game released since Origin has been on Steam, the most popular digital distribution service.

EA claims that its all about providing the best customer experience, yet that's obviously a lie when most of their PC customers hate Origin and don't want to use it yet they shove it down our throats and say "you'll use it whether you want to or not" when there's no reason to (other than corporate greed of course).

Because of this poor customer experience and the shoving of Origin down our collective throats, I can no longer in good faith purchase products from EA games. Until they either A) remove requirements for a digital service all together) or B) release their games on Steam I will not buy another EA game. As much as I want to see Shepherd's final adventure, as much as I want to play Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning - if both these games force Origin upon me I will not buy them on any system. I have saves for ME1 and 2 on my PC - why would I want to buy it on another console out of protest? I want the PC version and I want it my way, not EA's way.

I honestly don't even care about DLC much. I haven't bought DLC for Dragon Age or Mass Effect 2 at all and I only buy it for Bethesda's games when it goes on sale via Steam.

Occupy Wall Street? I say we Occupy EA. Don't buy any EA products on ANY console system no matter HOW badly you want them. We have PLENTY of games to play from 2011 alone and non-EA games coming up in 2012. Lets send EA a message that says we won't take this BS anymore, they've pushed us too far!

Yeah... It seems to cycle, as new people come here, but don't read back through the thread.
