BioWare, you just lost a customer.

bioware can't do ish about this, its EA

Yes they can. BioWare isn't some hard done by studio having their hand forced by EA.

Absolving them of any decision by claiming its just EAs doing is just silly.

Agreed. They can't just hide behind all their poor decisions lately as being "All EA".

EA gives BW money to do things. If BW doesnt do what EA wants, EA gives BW less money. Then they make worse product because of low budgets and short deadlines. BW is between a rock and a hard place, lol.

I would like to know what sort of agreements EA / Valve is looking at.
I'm not sure where your discussions are - but surely one of the two companies would have to make a sacrifice (or in other words a compromise).

So I'd be interested to know - in light of this - what sort of compromise would EA / Bioware willing to do?

It's either you guys making an exception and abiding by their rules - or Steam making an exception and loosening their terms.

I, too, am interested in the bolded question.

I'm not sure there is one. Valve asks for the option of being able to purchase DLC through steam, while allowing it to be sold elsewhere. EA wants exclusive rights to selling the DLC. It's either one or the other. There's no in-between.

I haven't pre-ordered yet because I was pretty sure they were going to pull this crap (announce that the massively unpopular Origins is required months after starting to take pre-orders, that's not underhanded or anything...).

I get that EA/Bioware don't want to pay Steam's percentage (and on a $10 DLC that goes to 100k people, that'd be 300k going to Steam...), but I have no interest in having a second launcher (that's *is* spyware, despite the denials of EA's PR department...), so in my case, instead of getting my money minus 30%, EA/Bioware gets none of it. (not that my $60 is gonna break Bioware's bank).

I'm really disappointed in Bioware. They used to be a company that actually seemed to care about their fans... the Origins thing basically used up the last bit of goodwill i had left over from BGII.

Give users the option of buying DLCs from BW or Steam, Steam gets 30% of whatever is sold through Steam.

Mmm, I think you're right. But then, if that's the case, I'd appreciate EA actually saying that, rather just using some PR speak to blame Valve. I'll appreciate that Valve are to blame as well, but shoving all the blame onto them is just taking the mickey.

Bioware knew what they were getting themselves into when they signed on the dotted line. EA has a proven track record of completely sodomising devs, studios, brands and customers. They took a big gamble, and with Origin its coming back to bite them on the arse.
If they didnt want to sleep in the santorum, they shouldnt have gotten into bed with EA.

Did they have a choice though? I thought EA bought out BW's holding company, its like a new manager was hired for a store. The employees in the store got no say.

That's not a compromise though. It's exactly what Valve is asking for, and exactly what EA doesn't want.

Well, it's just youtube Let's Plays of ME3 for me then. But after the trainwreck of DA2, I was gonna wait for the final collected edition with all the DLCs anyway. Now, I won't bother. Maybe in half a decade or so when the technology is considered 'quaint' and you can get the whole saga in a half hour download or what have you.

nah i dont absolv them, but ure wrong, do u think bioware, after all the hard work they've done with this trilogy, dont care about loosing fans or potential buyers? even a vorcha would know that if u but a spyware like origin on a singleplayer game(mostly - because i buy the game for the single) 50% of the customers will hesitate to buy it. bioware is not the publisher, they develop games and thats it.

Bioware and Pandemic had a partnership that was owned by some holding company, which was headed by EA's current CEO. When EA bought this partnership, they made this guy the CEO.

And as of a year or so, Pandemic has been closed down after one lousy title under EA's ownership.

No, they want them on Steam, but not exclusive to Steam

Again, my example's are Shogun 2 DLC (available from many places), and Arkham City DLC (available from 2 places - G4WL (it's a G4WL game) and Steam).

Yes, but did BW get a choice in EA's ownership change? When you buy groceries, they dont go "nah, I dont want to be bought by this guy". BW was property that was traded for money.

No, Valve only requires that DLC be able to be bought through steam. It can still be sold elsewhere.

The only compromise I can possibly imagine is Valve lets EA have timed-exclusivity on selling DLC. It would eventually appear on steam.

It'd be weird if Bioware wasn't asked for input about the matter.

That might work... If EA accepted it. In a way, that's happened with the Arkham City DLC, though I think it was accidental. There was a period of about a week/2 weeks where the only place to get the DLC was through the G4WL client. And then it appeared on Steam as well.

It could have been a choice of "work for EA or f*** off and work elsewhere".

Eventually some people made that decision, but from what I've read from the site of DA: O's director, the docs had no problem working under EA.

Publisher, as far as I'm aware. Just like a normal game.

If that would be true, then what possible issue EA could have?
If they can define they own store and steam store prices?
