console version FTW. On a side note, I have origin (had to when I got my free ME2 copy. actually at that time it was named something entirely different...) and have never had issues with it, other than I CAN'T GET MY FLIPPING DA:O:UE DLC TO ACTIVATE!!!

*looks around at people staring*

what???

You really hit an all time low with this. This will more than likely be the last times buy a bioware game, and with the way DA2 was, I guess it isn't a bad thing.

If I had one question, it would be why? Why do we need this spyware to play a single payer game? Maybe I'll still buy the game, but then talk to my peg leg friend over a bottle of rum. Might even bring my parrot.

Why not get it for Xbox?

That's not proof. Just because they have the right to do something doesn't mean they actually do it.

True, but still you will get a lot LESS hassle for playing console games

After you do the one time authentication, can you uninstall Origin and still play single player? That is how I took the Origin for single player part.

Because:

A) I prefer to play games on PC.
B) My Shepard from ME1&2 is on my PC.
C) I shouldn't have to choose another platform to avoid intrusive DRM
and D) I refuse to give EA a single cent for a game that requires intrusive DRM. If I buy it on Xbox, they still get my money, and one more console sale over PC sale they can blame on piracy, when in fact they are driving away their own customers with their questionable business ethics.

For EA games anyway. I'd say buying games off steam instead of driving to the store or ordering on amazon and waiting is less of a hassle and free online, but don't want this to turn into a system war. I play on Pc and console (for what my pc can play) and enjoy them both very much. I have to say though I would buy most EA games on console because of this. Battlefield would probably be the only thing I'd give in for but my PC can't even play that. Looking to go to PC in the future.

4) Will ME3 be available on Steam?
During initial release Mass Effect 3 will be available on Origin and a number of other 3rd party digital retailers, but not on Steam at this time. Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content.  We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.

1) Is this confirmation that Mass Effect DLC will be available to buy in places other than the BioWare store?

2) Re: Bolded part of your quote: That's some epic EA PR there.

3) (Obligatory) No Steam = No buy.

Seriously there's people that will not play the PC version only because of Origin?

Just because the program picks some information on your PC?

Obviously because it lowers your intelligence to the point where you don't understand simple sentences.

I can bet if ME2 was just released now it wouldn't be on steam just because of the whole "DLC on the Bioware Store". :? I have ME1 & ME2 for steam and honestly I don't care if I have to use origin...Don't see the big fuss over not having a game on steam. But again this is just me talking.

To Chris Priestly

1) If we do not intend to use multiplayer, can we uninstall Origin after completing one time single authorization for the single player game?

2) Also, will I have to install Origin EVERY TIME I install Mass Effect 3, or after one time single authorization I will no longer have to install Origin ever again?

I won't cancel my pre-order or anything but not making the game available on Steam is a HUGE mistake.

I mean...just have a look at some of the Steam stats from last year:

  • 1800 games now on Steam
  • 40 million accounts registered
  • Year-on-year sales increased by over 100%, for the seventh year running. Blimey!
  • Simultaneous users topped 5 million during December
  • Served over 780 petabytes of data; twice that of 2010
  • Over 14.5m Steamworks games were registered, 67% up from 2010. This
one is probably the real biggie for Valve, as it means their
community/cloud/achievement/DRMy stuff is increasingly becoming the PC
    gaming norm

Do I need to install Origin to play ME3's single player or do I just need authentication, authorization or whatever it is that is needed?

The hell?!!?!!!! Seriosuly how can you have any goodwill left for EA when they do absolutely EVERYTHING to make using their products as much of a pain-in-the-ass experience as it is physically possible!?!?!

Yeah, fair fair. I happen to think Steam is great for PC gaming and developers, but I'm not so arrogant I think everyone should think the same. The part that gets me is the hypocrisy - "Steam have restrictive terms of service which limit delivery of DLC... Hey guys, there's only 1 place to buy Mass Effect DLC!" Words fail me how EA can get so many people to think that's okay. <_<

Q: What we can inspect on our BSN profiles... is there going to be something like story board like in DA:O, or nothing like ME2? :bandit:
