I think its also important to clarify two SEPERATE concerns going on here. Steam AND Origin.

I think a lot of people are misguided that releasing ME 3 on Steam, will somehow resolve the Origin discussion.

This will surely NOT be the case - from what we know so far.

Not really, some people just want it on Steam, they really don't care what is attached to it.

Again not saying all, but there are a number of people who only buy things on Steam since they feel Steam makes everything better.

Steam holds a lot of peoples complete Digital libaries and provides a number of services not performed by any other Digital game service. I've sepnt a long time using it, building up my friends list and games library. The hassle of splitting these key online components up is a pain.

I'm happy to pay a premium for a game sold on Steam, especially of this calliber so that EA can makes its money back from Valve by getting extra from me. But I will not be forced into EA's Origin service, its better than GFWL, but much worse compared to Steam. Give the customer choice EA and stick your games on all shopfronts especially the most popular. If EA loses and sales on this and blames piracy they are ridiculously incompetent.

You are selling out. And btw I have a PS 3 but I wont support your policies in Buying games from EA at all, It doesnt matter wich system.

This alone makes me question why you even have a problem with Origin concerning Mass Effect 3 - aka Why are you here?

Oh I'm anti-capitalism for sure - but thats not why I don't like Origin.

I just strongly don't believe an online check should be required, nor should a third party program that doesn't serve a purpose for my single player gaming.

I didn't pay for this software, and I don't want it with my game.

Let's just say if it was on Steam, I guess there won't be any force to use Origin anymore either, so a win for both Steam haters and lovers. Chris Priestly gave a lot of reasons in his FAQ for people to be here, not only one like Origin = Spyware or the like. The only thing we all (the complainers) have in common is that we don't want Origin forced on us, for one reason or the other.

Ya but then it would be Steam being forced on you not Origin, and there are still people around who do not like Steam seeing it as intrusive so the problem would still stand.

There are quiet a few people in this thread that do not like Clients when they purchase a physical copy.

Or that Steam is our only option to purchase digital games because we don't live in NA/Europe.  Origin is region restricted to citizens of the current country in which I reside.  I'm not a citizen here.  I can't use Direct2Drive, Impulse, GamersGate (some games aren't), etc. because they're all region restricted.

I also take offense to the EA attempting to shape a market they had no hand in developing and the typical EA mudslinging they've been so fond of this past year.  That really worked out great for them with MW3 vs. BF3, ha!

Well, it's a one time activation which is quite normal these days.  It isn't the Ubisoft crap of requiring a constent net connection.

The auth attempt is the least of my worries.

EA went about Origin the wrong way from the start. If they want to take Steam's customers, provide a better service than steam. If you hold games hostage and strong-arm customers into using Origin, they will only do it until they dont have to. Temporary customers only last until EA cashes out another game studio and their games turn into steaming feces. Then the fans abandon Origin and move on to another brand which is on Steam.

Don't know anyone that beleves "Steam makes everything better" just for the sake of it, but when I buy a game with 25-75% off and it updates and installs DLC problem free I'd say It dose make things better with good reason. Anyone here think we would see that sort of dicount on Bioware points and bug free survice from EA/Bioware?

Not taking a shot at you or anything just saying I think people are feeling they are being forced into buying a bad deal and not haveing the option of a better one.

Thank you Anzolino, this data is very interesting.

It seems most of those places are not even from EA; if so,  this brings the original question of why is EA sending our data there?)

And now also, what do these companies do with?

How can EA know and guarantee us it’s safe?

That no other use than the intended is done with that information?

I’m very interested to find out these answers, since it is my data, (among those of others, of course) , we are talking about…or simply in getting an opt-out of all of this.

You know who that comment was directed at. There are people who just want it on Steam or only want games sold exclusively on Steam even if it raised the prices considerably.

One thing I hate about text boards is having to constantly explain something do to bad interpretation or initial typing that doesn't quite meet the purpose of the persons intent.

what I meant is, if it was on Steam it wouldn't be tied to Origin anymore, so I'd also see retail copies not requiring it.
I neither like Origin nor Steam forced on the player, I like to have a choice.

It is all good and nice to play moral outrage and boycott here, but let´s face it we all know that once the stores open the game will sell like hot cakes (and at least half of those vowing never to purchase it here now will have it on day one).

Is it really that hard for some people to see this is the number one reason why we have to deal with all those crap clients in the first place?

no, for me it is the business that after all these years of being a nice civilian who bought all games via stores, who is now forced to look for alternatives. My main reason for buying all the pc games i wish to play is that reason and that reason only. PC market will die or only consist of consoleport. I choose not to accept this business model ea decided to force down my throat, not now, not ever! So yes, I will to pirate this game if another valid option is not available in due time
