How about those of us that would like to purchase the retail version and install it without any 3rd party programs?  For me no Steam is fine, but no Origin is mandatory.

I'm not trying to wild you up but, everyone is using a 3rd party programs these days.

I remember the fuss when games started requiring an internet connection to register instead of mailing or calling in the registration. There was a bit of an uproar then, but it changed nothing.

The problem I have with this concept is the internet is still not avaliable for everyone. I hope but it will be a long time when everyone will be able to enjoy the world of globelization. (Yeah I know theirs bad parts to it too.)

As I originally posted, please take your complaints that Mass Effect 3 is not available on Steam, to Steam.

I know people are not going to be happy with what I revealed today and I will read the disappointment and anger and frustration and feel bad for it. I know that EA said Origin is not Spyware and people will still insist it is. I will continue to try to get answers to questions that are asked on Origins for those people who still have concerns and want to make informed judgements on Origin and Mass Effect 3.

However, I really do not accept the criticism that WE, BioWare and EA, are wrong for not offering it on Steam. We would like to offer it on Steam. We used to have a good relationship with Steam. The more stores and digital retailers who sell our games, the more customers can buy the games and the money we can make. We are working with digital retailers like Direct2Drive and others so we are not Origin exclusive by any means. Unfortunately, Steam changed their policies and we are currently not able to come to an agreement that allows us to be on Steam. We were on Steam for ME2. We were on Steam for Dragon Age II until we had to remove it, again because Steam changed their policies. We would be on Steam now if their policies allowed us to be there. I do not know if a significant number of fans complaining to Steam that they want Mass Effect 3 to be on Steam will have an effect or not, but it certainly will not hurt. Steam is a great service and I would hope that we will work with them if it becomes possible for us to do so.

As I said, I am reading the thread. I will be taking the questions asked and working to get answers for them. To those who are angry about this and will refuse to buy ME3 as a consequence, I am sorry you feel this way. Hopefully the information I can provide between now and launch, or post launch, will make you change your minds. For those who are still seeking information to make an informed decision, I will continue to work to get answers for you.

Thanks.

What about we asked earlier, after installing and authenticating ME3 uninstall Origin and be able to play at least the Single Player without any problem.

Right now I really must concur.

First time I can say this, but I am actually becoming jealous of console gamers.i can't help but feel the industry wants too make PC gaming as much a pain in the ass as they can so that people will just buy consoles instead. Easier to control everything that way.

It's quite surprising that it took 21 pages for this ridiculous argument to rear it's ugly head.

People have every right to be concerned about their privacy. This doesn't mean they have anything to hide, just that they don't want everyone mucking around in their personal business. I have nothing to hide from my roomate, but I don't want her digging through my stuff.

 I'm not arguing anything here, just asking a question. I have never used Origin. I was just curious what the fuss was all about and I assumed it had something to do with Origin showing EA your files, therefore implicating you if there was anything not so legal on there.

I'm just going to throw this out here. I really don't think we live in a society that we can truly be safe from privacy intrusion. (Unless you live in a place that doesn't have access to the net)

This Origin thing while I understand the concerns. It seems like eventually every major company is doing stuff like this just to keep their IP. I don't think this sort of stuff will change in the coming years. Now what will this become of DRM and the like in 10 or 15? I don't know but, hopefully companies won't become to paranoid or more in the future and Licenses are more respected and consumers are more trustworthy with their products.

Just for thoughts. Again.

You're on the money here. The internet is slowly changing the traditional Western conception of privacy.

I'm against DRM and I don't much care for EA, but I can't help thinking people are being rather naive having the belief that they can completely protect themselves from involuntary data sharing when using the internet.

They really are, when one of my roomates back in college didn't get a summer internship because the employer found facebook pictures of him with a beer in his hand before he turned 21 privacy was long gone.

I am very, very sad that I will not get to see the end of the trilogy.

I bought Mass Effect 1, and 2 with all its DLC. I read the wikis and followed the news articles. I scoured the internet for ME3 related news as soon as I finished 2. I devoured every article. Drooled over every video. I feel today as if I have lost something very important.

EA and Bioware, I am disappointed. I have read your FAQs and I am not satisfied with your reasons. Not a single person I know has voiced support for this decision, and while I can't guarantee they will follow through on their intentions to not buy this game, I can certainly speak for myself. Let me make this very clear:

I will not be purchasing this game. This includes the main game, DLC, merchandise or any other connected IP. You have lost a dedicated customer, possibly forever. Regardless of your reasons, this whole incident will be viewed as a money grab, and you stand to lose far more than just one title's revenue: you stand to lose the loyalty of the fans that made the series possible.

I feel the most sympathy for the developers. They put in more than just time to make this game. They put in their passion, creativity, blood and sweat. They toil endlessly, away from their families, working until they can barely stay awake, with genuine intent to deliver a life-changing experience to the fans. Their passionate work will now forever be tarnished with the scent of greed. This was not their decision. This was not their intent. And yet, because EA sees an opportunity to force a higher market share, the dream will be lost.

Shame. On. You.

That doesn't make it right that they are.

All of them for forcing a third party program on us is wrong.

I never knew it was a matter of ethics. I just see Steam as an annoyance. Especially when their useless in support or when I'm not sure who to directly contact for support. But look it as this way, how are indie developers supposed to show off their stuff.

Indie games have nothing to do with the issue at hand.

I don't want to purchase a game, from a store, that I have the disc in my hand, that also forces a seperate piece of Software I neither want, nor need, onto my hard drive.

You can always go in offline mode. But steam isn't so bad patches. The only thing I right now I really hate about steam is. (one) every developer is using it. (Two) when Steam goes down with a bad patch, your game goes down. (Three) horrible service.

I figure that's one of the questions he'll need to do some additional research on before answering. It might be dependent on how they release the DLCs.

There was too much positive attitude and agreement with the semi-confirm of no planet scanning. They had to knock BSN down a peg back to normal.

Piracy will happen regardless of any barricades EA  puts in front of it's paying customers.  I'm curious as to what the other reasons might be.  A friend said I could borrow his console version when he finishes the game, so I'm to the point where I don't care now, and I'm saving $80 in the process.

That has nothing to do with it, and if you were to bother educating yourself instead of just drive-by troll-posting, you'd know that.

And THAT should scare the pants out of everyone or at the very least set off warning bells about how companies are starting to view consumers.
