Origin compulsory? I'm not buying it. End of story.

I've played the entire series on PC so far, with all the DLC, including the worthless cosmetic ones (well, most of them, and only when I was trying to reduce my points balance to 0), and I wanted to see the end of Shepard's story. But it's not worth installing Origin to do so.

That's exactly it -- even seeing the end of Shepard's story arc is simply not worth giving in on this issue.  No game is worth giving in on this issue.

Dear Bioware,

I will not be buying your game. I've thoroughly enjoyed many of your games but I will not watch a big coorperation like yourself try and restrict the freedom of the consumer further. I used to really respect your company a few years ago but due to obvious changes in your management it's clear you've lost sight of what a company like your own should aim to do. I enjoyed both Mass Effect games and even took it upon myself to read some of the literature so it's unfortunate to see this happen but I simply will not support this. I was hoping you'd finish the trilogy with a little respect to your fans who may have bought it through a multitude of different forms but I suppose that was wishful thinking.

Sincerely,
A Disgruntled Fan

PS: Perhaps if you'd actually oblige the public with information on what the restrictive terms are then it might not seem like you're just trying to push your master's new platform, however; all I've seen has been uncooperative.

Killjoy, I commend your commitment. Of all the folks I've routinely disagreed with on BSN, I've always held you in the highest respect. And for once, I don't disagree with you. At least, not entirely.

I'd have qualms with purchasing ME3 for PC as well. I'm getting it for 360, though. Always intended to - I don't even own a computer capable of running it. And I admire the choice to take a stand, but despite EA's ridiculousness I have too much respect for BioWare Edmonton's hard work to cancel anything.

EA really lucked out buying them a few years ago. My ethics would have prevented me from purchasing from most other companies that would do this.

You can always go in offline mode. But steam isn't so bad patches. The only thing I right now I really hate about steam is. (one) every developer is using it. (Two) when Steam goes down with a bad patch, your game goes down. (Three) horrible service.

I dont care if I can go into offline mode or not. I do not want to install third party software on my PC. I want to pay for a game, install it off the disk in my hand, and play it. I dont want or need Steam, or Origin, or any other extranious software.

I'm getting this for Xbox 360. This does not affect me.

(also anyone against origin is most likely afraid of it being spyware, and the reason they're afraid of it being spyware is because they most likely have pirated some games --not accusing anyone, just stating a trend that I've noticed...)

Oh don't know what other company I would've prefered to have bought Bioware. Maybe MS. Honesly thought that was going to happen when it was an exclusive to 360.

personally have no problem with Origin, installed it and have 3 games on it, it sucks donkeyballs compare to Steam of course, sky is blue grass is green~
the thing really bugs me is, Bioware you (along with DICE) do it because you wanna push EA's own digital platform, you wanna sabotage Steam whenever is possible so Origin can advance, not because some "we wanna bring best experience to you" crap, we BOTH smart enough to know that, WHY the act? Grow a pair and tell us u wanna compete with Steam, its not a shame, hiding it is.

So, go back and take a look at the posts of mine that have been "edited" by the mods.

Anyone care to guess what they were discussing?  We're not even allowed to discuss the fact that they've been removing a certain subject from posts, locking threads that mention that subject, etc?

And it's not eyepatches or parrots that they're editing out.  Just a common security tool.

Why would EA care if you keep Origin from scanning your hard drive, unless the real reason they're so determined to get Origin onto hard drives is to be able to mine them for data?

If I end up banned, then there's your biggest clue yet that I've nailed it.  The emperor has no clothes.

Was it one of these?

You are mistaken. It is not about pirated games. Its is about privacy. There is a large part of my life in my PC, due to my occupation and I do not want my private documents and data to be available to anyone. Also, I do not want the hassle of instaling programs like Origin and Steam. Simple as that.

Thanks for the update, guys. I won't be installing Origin on my system, so you lost yourselves a sale.

Edit: Thinking about it, perhaps not just a sale. If this is the way it's going to be going forward - with the last part of a trilogy having a requirement to sell my personal privacy and computer security - I will be thinking long and hard about buying any EA/BioWare games at all, which makes me sad.

Duede its ok, seeing how much Origin is sucking now and how good Steam is doing now(last Holiday Special on Steam? that was bananas), and seeing how even great Microsoft's GFWL is failling against Steamworks, i say in 2 years Origin is goona kick the bucket and then all the games missing will be on Steam, eventually.

Not what I meant. I don't take to melodramatic speech and text lightly, I really don't. But I mean it when I say that "doesn't affect me" mentalities are precisely what allow many terrible things to happen in this world. It doesn't directly affect us now, no. But the less we care, the more it will bite us in our asses in the long run.

I will refrain from mentioning historical examples of this statement in action, but for general trivia's sake you could look at issues ranging from Apple to World War II. I mean... This is a pretty well-documentated sort of scenario.

However, I really do not accept the criticism that WE, BioWare and EA, are wrong for not offering it on Steam. We would like to offer it on Steam. We used to have a good relationship with Steam. The more stores and digital retailers who sell our games, the more customers can buy the games and the money we can make. We are working with digital retailers like Direct2Drive and others so we are not Origin exclusive by any means. Unfortunately, Steam changed their policies and we are currently not able to come to an agreement that allows us to be on Steam. We were on Steam for ME2. We were on Steam for Dragon Age II until we had to remove it, again because Steam changed their policies. We would be on Steam now if their policies allowed us to be there. I do not know if a significant number of fans complaining to Steam that they want Mass Effect 3 to be on Steam will have an effect or not, but it certainly will not hurt. Steam is a great service and I would hope that we will work with them if it becomes possible for us to do so.

I'm sorry you guys are the ones making the decision not to release it on Steam. You are the ones agreeing not to accept their terms. All the criticism you receive is well deserved. Sorry it's not Valves fault that you guys and EA Games refuse their terms.. it's your fault. Trying to pass the blame onto them is just silly.  I wish you guys could come to an agreement... but pointing fingers.. well meh.

There is no advantage.  All a game needs is a launcher like WoW or The Witcher 2 and the autopatching is taken care of.

This.  Stop with the PR bull**** of "connecting with fans" because it's a load of crap.  Bioware points aren't fan friendly, they nickle and dime people "oh, you have 80 points left but nothing on the store costs 80 points lulz!," and is a hassle of a process if that process works at all.  EA has NEVER been fan friendly and it's completely disingenious to even suggest that (online passes, shutting down servers to force players into buying next year's iteration, dreadfully overpriced DLC, a severe lack of features and sales on Origin or a substantial library of games, region restrictions, region restricting some consumers to a currency they don't even use or have access to, and on and on and on).
Stop talking to us like we're children because most of us aren't.

I'm confused.  If a developer can't develop their own launcher then something's wrong.  Also, piracy will happen no matter what, so saying Origin prevents piracy is false.
