Maybe because we've also seen screenshots where Origin accesses stuff it shouldn't? And that's not the entire issue. As was already pointed out, the problem is that whe shouldn't be forced into installing it in the first place because many of us have no use for it.

I'm to computer retarded to know what's going on but so much **** is going down in this thread that it being buried and not looked at isn't surprising. I don't even want to be Chris whenever he goes through this thread.

And I remember someone in the old thread saying "looky, it does nothing!" and then changing their mind after monitoring it for a longer time.

I noticed I just had nothing new to add to it.  Its already been shown and the data mining isn't even the worst of it IMO

If memory serves we had this same argument about Steam when Half-Life 2 was released 8 years ago. This isn't a new thing at all.

I know, but what I find incredibly annoying, is that EA is just denying that it's trying to push Origin with moves like this. Why not just say it up front? We all know it's true, regardless of statements that Steam is 'restrictive'. I'm sure there are some things we aren't told (or can be told) about the whole Steam thing, but frankly, I don't care. As a company, you should think of your customers first.

I don't mind Origin, have had it installed for a long time and even bought some games on it. But I prefer Steam and as I have the first two games on that platform, I'd like the third one on there as wel. For me it's a convienence thing as I don't believe the 'EA is spying on us!' conspiracy at all.

I've also monitored its datamining recently. I was one of the people shouting spyware, but it scans almost nothing now. Mainly files in the EA folder.

It saw you shouting "SPYWARE" so now it's only doing it when you're not looking.

I am sure they noticed but in a half arsed way. What I saw was it only looked pretty much at the Origin files/folder and used explorer.exe like almost every single application in windows does.

I am even more impatient for release day now just to see how many people are just venting like is standard procedure on BSN for every thing. I am guessing most are bluffing and puffing up their chests in rage when in reality most if not almost all will still buy, will still keep pre-orders or will calm down like always and re-order if cancelled during hissy moment of anger.

I don't take those who make threats seriously anymore on here because it's the first thing people seem to do on BSN when hear (anything) they do not like they all scream I cancel this or that or will never buy from you again. Come release day will find out how many kept their word and I am 99% sure almost all will not have done so or regretted acting out of fit of anger then order a copy.

Either way time will tell. I am eager to actually see the reality of how many do and how many of blowing smoke but these days on BSN it has more in common with boy who cried wolf, heard it so often where they never followed through that can't take it seriously anymore.

For the very, very few who keep to their threats, congratulations sticking to your principles or keeping your word when make such threats and do you wish me to let you know how amazing the game is when release day comes around?

As I originally posted, please take your complaints that Mass Effect 3 is not available on Steam, to Steam.

I know people are not going to be happy with what I revealed today and I will read the disappointment and anger and frustration and feel bad for it. I know that EA said Origin is not Spyware and people will still insist it is. I will continue to try to get answers to questions that are asked on Origins for those people who still have concerns and want to make informed judgements on Origin and Mass Effect 3.

However, I really do not accept the criticism that WE, BioWare and EA, are wrong for not offering it on Steam. We would like to offer it on Steam. We used to have a good relationship with Steam. The more stores and digital retailers who sell our games, the more customers can buy the games and the money we can make. We are working with digital retailers like Direct2Drive and others so we are not Origin exclusive by any means. Unfortunately, Steam changed their policies and we are currently not able to come to an agreement that allows us to be on Steam. We were on Steam for ME2. We were on Steam for Dragon Age II until we had to remove it, again because Steam changed their policies. We would be on Steam now if their policies allowed us to be there. I do not know if a significant number of fans complaining to Steam that they want Mass Effect 3 to be on Steam will have an effect or not, but it certainly will not hurt. Steam is a great service and I would hope that we will work with them if it becomes possible for us to do so.

As I said, I am reading the thread. I will be taking the questions asked and working to get answers for them. To those who are angry about this and will refuse to buy ME3 as a consequence, I am sorry you feel this way. Hopefully the information I can provide between now and launch, or post launch, will make you change your minds. For those who are still seeking information to make an informed decision, I will continue to work to get answers for you.

Thanks.

I give a damn hell about Steam. And with Origin it is the same. I'll never will install neither the one nor the other on my PC. Because I don't need this kind of stuff....and I don't want it.

So I don't buy any game that requires a digital platform like Steam or Origin. Make Origin optional for the retail version of ME 3 and I'll buy it as soon as possible.  Otherwise I'll not. We all know, that DRMs like Origin are not capable to protect your games from beeing pirated. So, why you just forget this whole nosense?

Do you know the game "The Witcher 2"?

CD Projekt don't want to anger their customers with useless DRMs like Origin & co. And so I'll buy the game. It cost the same as DA:O or ME 2 but it comprised a lot of goodies beside the game. The soundtrack of the game for example. That is what I called an added value not useless gateway jails like Origin.

BioWare also do something like this...but this is so long ago.

So, you lose one paying customer. Congratulations for this big deal.

Well.. Personally speaking, this game is worth all the trouble EA can cause. I don't care if this game uses the moon I can't wait to play it.

I still wait till every major publisher releases their own distribution platform and say that only theirs can fully support their games so they're pulling them form every other store.

Yay, for having to install tons of software to play a game. Time to return to console gaming...

So we are back again at the point where software pirates get the superior product.

Not only that, if you pay for the product, you get forced to install intrusive beta software with a spyware EULA, that changes every few weeks but showed it true intend on the initial release.

You know, with a customer friendly EULA, I might had given you my data voluntarily if I had a chance to review it first. You could have just asked.

Could you please offer me as a paying customer a better product then the person who doesn't pay for it, thank you.

I find it kind of amazing that only the German EULA has been updated, by the way.

Germany when it comes to law is pretty interesting. So many rules, regulation laws etc. It's little bit more complex than you could see I believe than American or Canadian. Can't Speak for the rest of the english speaking world.

I think they should extend the update to entire EU *for starters* (because yes, I happen to think that the privacy of people living in the US and Canada should be respected as well) because these privacy laws are not just a German thing, which makes the whole thing just absurd for non-Germans.

Heya Liisi, long time no see!

As a german I can clearly answer this: Because only the german gamers created a ****storm for EA that even the mainstream media picked up. I'm quite sure the Origins EULA is against laws of other countries as well and would create the same outcry elsewhere - if people would just care. So far only german gamers cared, and as a result we're the funny Krauts again who are somewhat special when it comes to privacy. Well, as long as we succeed I couldn't care less about being called a madman. Kinda proud of the geramn community actually.  ^_^
