Lol, there are ways to kill Origin or prevent it from scanning your PC, but the mods label those as copyright circumvention.

More legal nonsense....though I do not blame BioWare for any of it...even Chris only has one choice: never voice dissapproval and enforce as told or be left without a job.

1) Will Origin be a requirement to play all versions of Mass Effect 3? (Digital and/or from a retail brick and mortar store)
Yes, Origin is required for all PC editions of Mass Effect 3, physical or digital.

HAHAHA, idiots. Dont you know this is no way to handle your customers. Why force them to use a piece of **** application? I dislike Origin. Its a beta piece of crap software, that scan your computer for stuff it should not scan for. What kind of idiot decided to develop this at EA corp?

But thanks for this info. You just gave me a reason not to spend money on mass effect 3. I see no other options to play it without haveing to use origin.

I honestly hope EA will continue this and put all their games on origin and nowhere else! This will save me lots of money from now on.

This reminds me of a Cyanide and Happiness comic about DRM but I am too much of a scaredy-cat to post it here.

This one?

Though the end is missing, where the Mr. DRM is going through your pockets and stealing your stuff.

dont worry about that. They will have this game uploaded even before its releaseday. Quick playthrough and delete it again. Then I'll spend my money on Max Payne 3. Thank god Rockstar is not owend by EA and only availbe via origin

Alright then as Origin is forced even for retail I'm not going to buy ME3. Pity as I would have liked to see how the trilogy ended. Maybe I'll eventually get it for PS3 after price drops.

Anyway thanks for the update.

Hi Chris, Will ME3, and other Bioware games for that matter, be available on OnLive?
Thanks

Lol, nothing on my computer is of any worth to me. No personal details, nothing. I would be offended if i was your average PC user, but i use this thing for gaming. So i don't mind Origin.

Wow everyone is hating so hard on Origin. I understand how bad people think it is, but holy cow. Forcing yourself to miss out on what quite possibly could be one of the best games ever over a simple piece of software that can be uninstalled after activation?

Seems a bit petty to me. Thank God I have an Xbox 360.

...Yeah, no.

If Origin remains a requirement for ME3, BioWare won't be getting a cent from me.

You know, something tells me that the multiplayer is only there for EA to shove Origin down more consumers' throats.

I dont mind either. I just wish I could add it to Steam. I'v been useing steam for some year now. Its full of games, downloads, achievements, friends. It doesnt scan my pc and it doenst make my games crash. OOhhhh jolly, how wonderful would it be if I could actually buy this game and install it the way I like to.

It's the principle of the thing.

I have nothing at risk financially, criminally, or (particularly serious) personally at risk should my computer be scanned and its contents reported back to someone else.

That doesn't mean I'm going to roll over and let them do it.

As I originally posted, please take your complaints that Mass Effect 3 is not available on Steam, to Steam.

I know people are not going to be happy with what I revealed today and I will read the disappointment and anger and frustration and feel bad for it. I know that EA said Origin is not Spyware and people will still insist it is. I will continue to try to get answers to questions that are asked on Origins for those people who still have concerns and want to make informed judgements on Origin and Mass Effect 3.

However, I really do not accept the criticism that WE, BioWare and EA, are wrong for not offering it on Steam. We would like to offer it on Steam. We used to have a good relationship with Steam. The more stores and digital retailers who sell our games, the more customers can buy the games and the money we can make. We are working with digital retailers like Direct2Drive and others so we are not Origin exclusive by any means. Unfortunately, Steam changed their policies and we are currently not able to come to an agreement that allows us to be on Steam. We were on Steam for ME2. We were on Steam for Dragon Age II until we had to remove it, again because Steam changed their policies.

Thanks.

(Bolding because I don't want this lost in the mass)

Steam's policies are pro-consumer. Steam's policies ensure that DLC is offered by the same digital distributors that sell the core game, thus ensuring every consumer has the chance to buy and play the DLC.

EA's stance is that there shall be no other distributor of Mass Effect/Dragon Age DLC. This is anti-consumer. I should not taking EA's anti-consumer stance to Steam. I should be voting with my wallet re: buying EA games and complaining to EA, both directly and indirectly (here).

If EA truly wanted to ensure the best experience for the consumer, they would allow their DLC to be sold elsewhere. They don't. They want to keep all the money for themselves.

That is where Steam's policies conflict with EAs.

Also, it would be nice if EA's marketing came up with something that wasn't so obviously and painfully false.

Yes I have. I use Steam myself to play a few PC games that aren't on Xbox. I feel for the D2D guys. But just go buy a physical copy if it bothers you that much.

May we all take a moment to thank whatever deity we happen to believe in for the existence of the 360 where even PC gamers exiled by Origin can transfer their saves to and continue playing as if nothing had changed. I absolutely do not believe BioWare should be punished for EA's mistakes but the PC version of any game requiring Origin must NOT be considered a commercial success so I am buying two N7 CEs for the 360.

Yeah. I don't mind waiting until ME3 gets onto Steam. It'll happen eventually. Might be a few years, but I'm not that bothered. Plenty of good single-player RPGs out there. :)

If it comes down to it, I'll gladly throw $60 at my monitor while ME3 finishes torrenting on release day.

Because at the end of the day, I get a more stable and hassle-free experience and BioWare can make a profit else where, nobody misses out on anything.

Dear Chris,

I don't really have a problem with Origin but my experience with Battlefield 3, it takes quite an amount of memory from the computer in order to run Origin in the background. Could you ask the team to take a look on this? The 'stall' is quite noticable even my desktop has 4GB without anything big running simutaneously...

(oh right, here's some other info of my desktop: 1GB from ATI 5750, Win7 64bit)

I DID read. Most Origin games require one time activation and then never need it again. So uninstall it afterwards.

Or get the game from a not so legal source with the need for Origin removed and send BioWare a $60 check in mail.

If you did read, then why make that comment :?
Trust me mayn, you're gonna need to boot origin every time you start playing. Same **** with BF3. Even if you click the extention in the folder it first boots up origin. Same will happen with me3.
I will use a not so legal source to bypass a mandatory origin use

Steamfanboys here are annoying.what is the problem if ME physical copies for PC require Origin? Even Steam forces his installation on physical copies of their games, so why EA should do differently? I wanted to play Skyrim and Deus Ex but didn't because Steam was forced upon me but i did not go on Steam forum whining and encouraging piracy.
