I just have to wonder why we need those platforms at all. If PC gaming is really in such bad shape (as Steamboys and girls like to keep saying), how is dividing the platform into sub platforms any help?

Well, once again directly.

Chris, I'm sorry but I don't buy it. Anything from the Steam issue to Origin being nice and friendly.

The Steam issue: You really want us to believe that EA and only EA left Steam due to unacceptable new terms and condtions on Valve's side, while no other big company that (surprisingly!) isn't currently trying to force a direct Steam competition on it's customers seems to have any issue ith it? Is Bethesda maybe one of those little indie developers who are forced by the evil Valve to keep selling their DLCs to me on Steam? Oh poor Bethesda, evil Steam.

No, I don't buy it, repeat it as much as you want. I know Valve, monopolist or not, still as a user-friendly company that tries to appeal to it's customer base with special offers, fair conditions and some things that actually make a gamer's life easier, while EA has never done anything that suggested they actually care for their customers. Everything I see from EA is force and all but likeable.

I wouldn't even consider for one second bringing this issue to the Steam boards, because the fact that only EA, one of the most user-unfriendly publishers of them all, who's currently trying to force Origin on us with brute force, is having an issue with Steam's policy tells the whole story. And even if EA had a point in this matter, I still wouldn't care and say "suck it up" because EA never had my sympathies, they ruined that actively. If Bethesda and others can sell their DLC on Steam, EA can too, they just don't want to. Period.

----

Now to Origin. There is no need to prove you that the current version is spying on us, because as long as the EULA gives you all the rights to do that, you can show us a spyware-free version today and update it to the worst malware tomorrow. And we're not even allowed to sue you for it and if you want o sue us, you can drag us in front of a US court even if we live outside the US - at least that's what your EULA says. As long as this kind of EULA exists, I don't even care what Origin actually does and what not, you want the rights to do whatever you like. "Oh, of course we would never do that!"... yeah yeah... if you're so nice and want us to believe that, scratch that EULA, it shouldn't exist.

Oh right, and if we get mad about that and use the F-word on the EA forums, we get thrown out and lose our $150 worth in games.
Ah right, that was an unintended accident? You already said that one year ago when users who complained about DA2 suddenly lost access to their games. Right, accident, big apologies after it went to the media. Very strange that now, one year later, users who use the F-word still lose access to their game library and history repeats. Big apologies again, yeah yeah... no, I don't buy it. EA does what they want, they grant themselves the rights to do so in the EULA, and only if the media catches wind of it they force one of the nice Bioware developers everyone likes to make an apology to calm the waves. I don't buy it.

And to the few generation Facebook people here with that "I don't care, I have nothing to hide" attitude... thanks for ruining our lives, if you just cared a little bit, it wouldn't be possible for EA to treat their loyal customers like mindless sheep.
BTW, Facebook.... comparing Origin to Facebook or Google Chrome makes no sense at all. I can freely decide whether or not I want to use facebook, but no company forces me to use facebook only to have access to my daily news site. If you want to use Origin, please do, but most of us want to use Mass Effect 3 and not Origin. Tha's the difference.

As for Chrome, never used it, never even got tempted. There are dozens of web browsers and again, nobody tries to force me into using Chrome only for accessing my daily news site.

----

Needless to say I won't support ME3 and it's a hard decision not to buy it on day 1 directly. Even though I'm german and we have some advantage regarding the EULA, it's a matter of principles not supporting the current way EA takes. Sorry for you, Bioware, and I'm sorry too that I have to argue with devs I love, but all you say is EA talk and Bioware is just not what you were anymore. Another company slowly but steadily ruined by EA.

Well, so much for my little nerdrage. I still love you Bioware guys, please stop feeding us EA blabla, better stop talking at all before you do. :(

I have an 360 and a ps3. I like playing on both platforms, but preffer the pc and for that platform I use steam for years now.

So you don't feel that Bioware deserves your money for ME3 but you feel you the right to own and play it for free?

You're whats wrong with gamers.

So what if EA doesn't care about its customers? Most companies don't.

Yes, I wish I could give Bioware every penny they deserver for making another kickass game. I bought all the ME games including the DLC. My save file is waiting for part 3 :D
What wrong with EA is my main question. Like I said, there i no alternative for me personally. Every option I could use to buy it, will eventually always end up booting via Origin. Via the download way, these groups will disable origin. I dont like, but EA is not giving me any choose.

Then buy a legal copy of the game as well.

Bioware gets the money they've earned by making ME3, and you get your Origin free copy.

I hate people that pirate stuff, but if you've paid for a full copy of ME3 and keep it for as long as you have an alternative copy installed then I can't really complain.

Um, Steam fans don't say that. Steam fans point to the fact that there were more concurrent Skyrim players on Steam than there were concurrent MW3 players on Steam. Steam fans point to the fact that that whilst EA couldn't be bothered with PC digital distro, Steam could, and pretty much saved PC gaming in the process (only a slight exaggeration).

A couple of things.
  • For those posters that aren't bothered to read through the thread or use their higher cognitive process before posting, many are against Origin, and NOT Steam, because Steam asks for permission to ransack your PC for data. Origin does it ANYWAY without asking. If you are even bothered to read through the thread, you would learn that people have done tests sometime ago and learnt that Origin goes through your private files on your PC, outside of the Origin program folder, via a process monitoring program.

For the more recent posts that Origin only scans its own folders, who is to say it won't scan others. It has been proven to do so before. And no, don't ask for image links. It has been posted on this thread, and you would have seen it if you bothered reading through.
  • For those people that said, "what's the big deal with privacy, you use sites such as Facebook, etc etc", here's the thing, YOU control what information you want to release to public on sites such as Facebook. And as a matter of fact, I don't use Facebook myself. I have an account, but it does not have my personal information. Just my name, and it's used just to keep in touch with people I know. I do not have the compulsion to show and tell the public everytime I take a photo of myself in the toilet, or everytime I drink a can of beer.
  • For those people who says, "you're a pirate so you don't want Origin scanning your files lool". What a load of bull. We care about what it scans because we might have important information on our PC. It is no secret that nowadays no major corporations can prevent their database from being hacked. With your logic, why don't you leave your house doors open, you have nothing to hide right? God forbid that you may have sensitive and/or banking information in your house. Just let strangers wander in anytime to take what they want. Because, hey, you have nothing to hide.
  • As for those ignorant enough to say we can opt out of sharing data on Origin; no we can't. Mr. Priestly's carefully worded post said that we can only opt out of ME3 data sharing, which, to be honest, I do not have a single issue with. Feel free to take my ME3 statistics, how I play the game and whatnot. Origin on the other hand, mines for data that are, bluntly put, none of their damn business.
  • For those who said, "what's the big deal, switch to console". Not all PC gamers have console. Most PC gamers choose the PC because they do not like playing on consoles. Switching would mean paying more for the console itself, and paying more for games, because PC games are still cheaper. In ME3's case, I CAN'T switch. I have a PS3, but my ME1/ME2 saves are for the PC.
Again, I've said it countless times, and I'm not the only one; DRM do not prevent piracy, it promotes piracy. Pirates will do what they do best, and excel at it. It's us as the paying consumers that gets harmed. A CD check is more than enough, because ME2 was great with just that.

Many of you do forget that, it's our own money that comes out of the pocket to pay for the game. We should not have to pay for a product and go through all the trouble to make our gaming experience more pleasant. If Origin really does prove itself to not be a spyware like so many
claims it to be, then good, I may be able to play a great game after
all.

Lastly, if you do not have problems with Origin, or if you do not play on the PC, good for you, refrain from posting in here. This news does not concern you whatsoever. All you do is bait arguments.

I feel very sorry for the great and passionate Bioware development teams; all their excellent work going to waste because of Origin.

You've lost yourself a customer, at least until your games become user-friendly once again - which is very unlikely with a EA ruining - I mean running - the show.

I started to read the leaked script last night since the news ME3 requiring Origin broke. I had downloaded it just in case i wanted to read it, now im not going to be buying the game ive nothing to lose.
Shame really, the only thing DRM 's do ( and don't fool yourself coz thats all Origin is )  is ****** of payin customers, because ive not encountered a piece of DRM that could not be breached...

Spot on!
If all publisher should make this choise, then we all end up wiht numerous digital platform with some friends on that one, some on the other. Like i said, steam beat them to the punch. Its that simple. And from that fact, I personally made a choise - years and years ago - to use steam as my pc gameing archive. At the moment it full of good stuff. I do NOT intent do also do this with origin.

So what if you have to pay some money to EA?

Bioware deserves some money for making the game in the first place.
EA deserves some money for putting it onto disks and making it available to buy.

If you're not willing to part with any money then why are you still going to download the game? You don't deserve ME3 - its not an entitlement.

You can either choose to play ME3 and support Bioware, and through doing so suppoer EA or you can choose to not support EA by not buying or playing the game.

You keep saying Bioware deserves your money and that people should pay for stuff, but you clearly don't mean it if you're willing to download it.

If you really hate piracy and aren't just writing crap then don't pirate it. Living without ME3 isn't the end of the world. Pirating it just justifies things like DRM and Origin more.

Oh well nevermind, goodbye Shepard and EAware. Forcing people to install something useless and possibly intrusive to their PC to play a game that they have purchased is really something I cannot agree to. Hell will freeze over before I press the agree button for that, maybe in a few years I'll pick this game up when it wont require all this nonsense but if not I wont lose any sleep about it.

Shame really but it's their loss not mine. Will playing Mass Effect 3 enrich my life, will it change anything ? No not really but having my information and also my own creations taken from my PC could and it's just not going to happen.

To all the peole plugging away to get an answer on this I salute you. Give yourselves a pat on the back because you have prevented me from making a big and possibly costly mistake not to mention thinking what the **** is this and getting really angry about wasting my money when I went to install this game.

I hate people that pirate stuff, but if you've paid for a full copy of ME3 and keep it for as long as you have an alternative copy installed then I can't really complain.

I hate to pirate myself to. I think that good things should have a price and that poeple should pay for these good things. Your senario makes sense, but unfortunatelly I will still be paying money to EA. This last part is not to my liking. I will not hand over any more money to EA. They are got me with BF3 last year. That was the first and last game on origin for me.
If in due time ME3 will arrive on Steam, then I will buy it.....yes i know that ea will then also get some money. But in this way, everything is back to normal again.

BECAUSE YOU WILL NEED TO USE ORIGIN!!!! I DONT WANT TO USE ORIGIN. Ik keep repeating myself here, god!
No matter which way I buy it I cant install on steam and for that matter I will not buy it. Becasue EA has won if i do. Sorry bioware. If i could pre-order the game right now on steam I would have already done it!

That was disappointing to hear to be honest :( ... I don't use steam and I won't use origins either for similar reasons. I still got my original playthroughs from my xbox version (wouldn't even have had that if not for the 'original xbox-exclusivity'). But all my "main playthroughs" and the ones that I really would have wanted to take to the end of the ME-trilogy are on the PC.

ah well ... one person doesn't matter anyway.
