Oh please, don't put the blame on people who refuse to buy the game out of principle. If the terms of use are not to your satisfaction you don't buy it. That's also how business works. And if you're so worried, why not compensate and buy every PC copy of ME3 you can find.

Buying a copy gives money to EA, and thus rewards them for their business practices.

Yeah!

Filthy EA just wants our money! They don't care about us; the real PC gamers!

Valve should buy BioWare from evil EA and then Mass Effect 3 will be saved!

Why? When Bizarre Creations went under they created a new Studio free of Activisions grasp. I'd like to see BioWare free of EA Games.. their quality in games has plummeted considerably. I use to love them.. now they are just another developer.  BioWare is nothing like they used to be and I don't see how old time fans can even like the new BioWare.. you bet your butt if EA were not involved in all this you'd see all of BioWares games on Steam..

EA has won even if you pirate the game.  Look it is very simple if you are against Origin then you should be against buying or playing any EA product until they get rid of the festering mess they call Origin.  If you buy Mass Effect 3 on the PC and then pirate it you are givng a false message to EA that you support Origin.  If you do not buy it but still pirate it then you are giving EA justification to not only use Origin but make it more tougher and more invasive.

I do not like Origin, I refuse to have it on my PC therefore I will not be buyinig Mass Effect 3 nor will I be playing Mass Effect 3 in any way whatsoever.  If you feel so strongly about Origin that you are complaining about it in this thread then you will do the same.  If you intend to "pirate" the game then guess what YOU are the reason we have to put up with crap like Origin.

Here is where you wrong! I already bought everything from ME and I will see this game end in part3. I always buy my pc as i already mention including the reason why. This changed for me from october 2011 and only for EA games that are origin exclusive. I will buy max payne, I will buy Hitman and some other games this year. Dont worry m8, i have always supported the gaming industry, I just lost some faith concerning a particular company

The fact that you're going to pirate it regardless shows that you don't mean it.

If people keep pirating, DRM will keep going up and the industry will stagnate. If you really wanted to support the industry, you wouldn't pirate it.

I've started doing this from october 2011 and ME3 will be my very first illegal download. It is the second game that needs origin. Like i said, I intent to purchase every game this year that I wish to play as long as it has nothing to do with origin. Case closed!

Again, it would be corporate suicide if that started spying.  There are people around the world that are so bent up on "I hate EA" that they watch the company like a hawk waiting to jump on anything, they would guarantee something would get out they feel is inapropriate and I have a good feeling EA does not want t repeat of Germany on a world wide scale.  the just wouldn't be a good business decision.

This makes me sad. I was really looking forward to Mass Effect 3. Blah. I'll just have to see if I can avoid spoilers long enough for EA to come to their senses and stop making Origin a requirement. IF that ever happens.

No, it won't save ME3. EA owns the ME IP.

And on a personal note, whether Valve owns Bioware or EA, at the moment it doesn't matter to me. One forces Origin on you, the other forces Steam on you.

Incognito JC wrote...

A couple of things.

  • For
those posters that aren't bothered to read through the thread or use
their higher cognitive process before posting, many are against Origin,
and NOT Steam, because Steam asks for permission to ransack your PC for
data. Origin does it ANYWAY without asking. If you are even bothered to
read through the thread, you would learn that people have done tests
sometime ago and learnt that Origin goes through your private files on
your PC, outside of the Origin program folder, via a process monitoring
    program.

For the more recent posts that Origin only scans its own
folders, who is to say it won't scan others. It has been proven to do
so before. And no, don't ask for image links. It has been posted on this
thread, and you would have seen it if you bothered reading through.
  • For
those people that said, "what's the big deal with privacy, you use
sites such as Facebook, etc etc", here's the thing, YOU control what
information you want to release to public on sites such as Facebook. And
as a matter of fact, I don't use Facebook myself. I have an account,
but it does not have my personal information. Just my name, and it's
used just to keep in touch with people I know. I do not have the
compulsion to show and tell the public everytime I take a photo of
myself in the toilet, or everytime I drink a can of beer.
  • For
those people who says, "you're a pirate so you don't want Origin
scanning your files lool". What a load of bull. We care about what it
scans because we might have important information on our PC. It is no
secret that nowadays no major corporations can prevent their database
from being hacked. With your logic, why don't you leave your house doors
open, you have nothing to hide right? God forbid that you may have
sensitive and/or banking information in your house. Just let strangers
wander in anytime to take what they want. Because, hey, you have nothing
    to hide.
  • As for those ignorant enough to say we can opt
out of sharing data on Origin; no we can't. Mr. Priestly's carefully
worded post said that we can only opt out of ME3 data sharing, which, to
be honest, I do not have a single issue with. Feel free to take my ME3
statistics, how I play the game and whatnot. Origin on the other hand,
mines for data that are, bluntly put, none of their damn business.
  • For
those who said, "what's the big deal, switch to console". Not all PC
gamers have console. Most PC gamers choose the PC because they do not
like playing on consoles. Switching would mean paying more for the
console itself, and paying more for games, because PC games are still
    cheaper. In ME3's case, I CAN'T switch. I have a PS3, but my ME1/ME2
    saves are for the PC.
Again, I've said it countless times, and
I'm not the only one; DRM do not prevent piracy, it promotes piracy.
Pirates will do what they do best, and excel at it. It's us as the
paying consumers that gets harmed. A CD check is more than enough,
because ME2 was great with just that.

Many of you do forget that,
it's our own money that comes out of the pocket to pay for the game. We
should not have to pay for a product and go through all the trouble to
make our gaming experience more pleasant. If Origin really does prove
itself to not be a spyware like so many
claims it to be, then good, I may be able to play a great game after
all.

Lastly,
if you do not have problems with Origin, or if you do not play on the
PC, good for you, refrain from posting in here. This news does not
concern you whatsoever. All you do is bait arguments.

[*]Very well said... Kudos.

Chris, you're a great person and I appreciate your communication on this. I can also understand your viewpoint on the situation with Valve. BioWare is also the only reason why I tolerate the loops I need to go through whenever I have to buy from EA.

However, the BSN is the sole source for BioWare-made DLC on the PC; the points system only benefits EA/BioWare, and there has never been a single discount for DLCs here. I'm sorry to say that I'm on Steam's side for the simple fact that they provide a better deal to PC customers and that's probably one fundamental reason why you don't see that many people complaining to Valve that ME3 isn't going to be on Steam.

Don't miss a wonderful game like ME3 just because you hate Origin guys, don't do that. Shepard won't agree.

First, I'm not sure about the wonderful part. That remains to be seen and I reserve my judgement.

But you're totally missing the point, since you're obviously comfortable having multiple clients in your system. I'm not into playing the corporate game of figuring out the customer by looking at their habits.

That won't happen and before you ask, I'm not using google chrome or anything along these lines either. I'm on facebook, but under a false name and a freemail account and I'm usually not into social networking and haven't got the least bit of interest in multiplayer or ingame chats.

I'm also not interested in offers, since I'm used to look up what I might need and don't need a company pushing my nose into stuff they think I might need.

That's you and I understand your opinion, but you must understand that they simply cannot listen to everyone in the world.

Let's keep it simple:

Bioware chooses Steam:
Audience reaction: OMG why Steam? I don't want Steam, PREORDER CANCELED!

Bioware chooses Origin:
Audience reaction: OMG Origin? Are you serious? I'm gonna pirate this game, PREORDER CANCELED!

Bioware chooses nothing:
Audience reaction: WTF? I want all of my games to be on Steam! I am not gonna buy it, PREORDER CANCELED!

Now, everyone, can you notice the difference? Because I can't. Just accept their decision and stop blaming about who did what. Enjoy the game, because you all will, right now you guys are whining at Bioware because of Origin or whatever but I bet on 6 March you will be sitted on your desk playing the final chapter of one of the best videogame series ever made.

I will not be buying ME3 until I can choose to buy it on Steam. No sooner. I've put well over 100 hours into both ME1 and ME2 together, and was looking forward to the conclusion of the series, but I'm absolutely prepared to pass on ME3 if EA are not prepared to sell it to me without their shonky service attached.

If EA were really smart, they'd put ME3 on Steam, but at a higher purchase price than Origin. But this move smacks of greed and desperation, and I will have no part in it.

Then thanks to you DRM measures are going to incerase eevn more.

I'm sorry if that sounds crass but that is what all large corporations see pirating as.... lost sales meaning they need to put more measures in to stop piracy meaning more DRM.

If you want to make a Stand that means no EA games at all, no buying, no piracy nothing, you need to cut yourself off completely if you want what you say to mean anything.

Right now that just says "I Love your games I just don't like paying you for the work you put into them".  That is what big business sees.

I have considered that. But it does look like EA (or at least, BW's forum moderators) considers sandboxing as a way to circumvent DRM. Which might lead to our CD key getting blacklisted, or our account getting banned.

It doesn't matter if its your first or your hundredth.

You aren't willing to pay for ME3. Therefore you do not deserve to play it.

You have yet to provide an actual reason as to why you have the right to play ME3 for free.

If you have any respect for Bioware or the gaming industry you'll either make do with Origin (hardly that big of a deal) or make do without ME3.

Anything else is a massive middle finger to Bioware and the developers that have poured years into this series.

Me and principles go way back, sir. I've refused a hell of a lot of niceties over the years out of principle. Sat down and had a nice, long mental monologue with myself over what to do in this case. On principle, I decided it'd harm the gaming industry more to assist in the collapse of a damn fine developer caught in the crossfire than the sign-wielding alternative of not purchasing the game. Had a long thought on that one. Looked over the history of collapsed developers who could have made more great works but whose doors were shut prematurely.

Besides, I play on 360. According to one of your fellows on here, I ought not to post else I'm "troll-baiting". Contrary to my posts last night in which I fully supported Killjoy Cutter's detailed analysis of the situation and wished luck to all you protestors for fighting the good fight. I still do at that. Our views may have brought us to two separate conclusions regarding the greater good, but I assure you kind Mister, our motivations are equally just. I have no desire to support Origin. I almost cancelled my copy, even, and I'm not even a PC gamer.

It's simple. Don't force any of it but give us the option to buy either on Steam OR on Origin OR on any other online store OR the box. Others do it too y'know, I can buy the Witcher wherever and in whatever form I want.
