I'm not going to install Origin on my computer. Not even for Mass Effect 3.
Personally I will not instead pirate the game either, but I sincerely wonder how many people will now do just that instead of buying the game...

The idea of enforcing people to install a software ont heir computers, that has been proven to be not so very different from your usual spyware or trojan is just sad.

Still no answer? Will post again then :/

To Chris Priestly:

1) If we do not intend to use multiplayer, can we uninstall Origin after completing one time single authorization for the single player game?

2) Also, will I have to install Origin EVERY TIME I install Mass Effect 3, or after one time single authorization I will no longer have to install Origin ever again?

It's REALLY important to us Chris

Chris is nowhere to be found on this thread after his post some ten pages back.

It's 8:45am in Canada atm (UTC -6). I think he's human and needs sleep. And it's weekend now...

I can garantee you, that you will need to boot ME3 via Origin every time, just like they did with BF3. Even if you were to double click on the ME3.exe in you folder it will still first boot up origin, even for the SP part of the game. MARK MY WORDS

Origin is required for any PC version of Mass Effect 3. Single or multiplay. Physical or digital edition.

because then i will have to use origin. And I will not let EA win here. Its not like EA makes and distibutors all games out there. I will keep support the industry, but some titles will from now on be downloaded or EA should change their policy

Irrelevant of which one first led to the other, an increase in one leads to an increase in the other.

The publishers aren't going to reduce DRM, so its up to the consumers to take the moral highground.

The beginning of this is irrelevant, yes, but both actions promotes one another. Obviously many consumers are too stubborn to reduce piracy. In fact, some people couldn't afford so many games. If the publishers would not take a moral highground, at least work on their brand loyalty. The consumers might respond positively.

Again, Witcher's CD Projekt is a great example.

They said the same about BF3. What you do think what the case is regarding that game? Exactly, origin all the time!

LOL what a bunch of hypocrites, we all know you will end up playing that game one way or another.

It must suck having no willpower. Although I'll admit that even though I have no intention of buying Mass Effect 3 now, many who say they wont, probably still will.

Hi, doomsayer. For MULTIPLAYER that should be correct. For single player, not likely.

You know that pirating everything doesn't solve anything, right? It only makes it worse. If you really want to make a difference, you should abstain from playing the game entirely. By pirating it, you only give EA more ammunition.

I've seen this statement come up plenty of times and I always found it to be hypocrite, especially since you need to 'ask permission' if you want to play a game bought from his service.

It is hypocrite - coming from the founder of the Steam kartel. I'm against any restriction, and Steam has already ruined the potential of one of my favorite game series - Total War games now require Steam, which has greatly reduced modability, something that made previous installments so great because you basically got dozens of games for the price of one (and much better versions than the original).

I only posted the link to dismiss the "Origin is needed to deal with piracy" claim and who better to quote than Valve's CEO ;)

He isn't saying this without base. To even play single player on BF3, you have to load Origin and select SP on its browser. We wouldn't really know if ME3 will take this approach.

It's actually very likely. The entire reason we're getting Origin shovelled down our throats is because Mass Effect 3 is a high profile game. They are using it to promote Origin, so it is exceedingly likely that ME3 will not start without it.

But this is where the arguement falls on its face. I own both mass effect's on steam and you cannot buy any dlc for them through the steam client, only through the BSN site with bioware points, and afaik it was like that with the patches too, you had to download the patches off of this site. So this whole "steam restricts direct interaction with our customers" is garbage because it has nothing to do with content delivery for any of bioware's games (i also own dragon age on steam and it's the same situation)

You are aware that older games do not fall under the new Terms of Services and are part of the Old Contract before the new one came into place right? That's why MAss Effect (2) and DAO are still for sale there. EA makes it clear it has to do with Content and they want to hold all the cards regarding DLC and Patches. When Valve while wants profit , also make it more convenient for their customers by delivering both DLC and Patches via Steam. Obviously the main point is to generate extra revenue from DLC.. however in doing so they please their customers. So it's a win win for both sides. However, EA Restricts this and it's not a win win for both sides.

I believe you, but could you give me a source anyway? I knew well in advance a constant internet connection was required to run that game.

How does Steam limit modding? Skyrim is a Steamworks title and it can be 100% Modded with zero restrictions. Half Life Franchise, CSS, DoD:S, L4D(2) can all be modded to your hearts content with basically no restrictions. I'm not sure why you think it's Steam limiting your modding.. when it problem was the developers decision to do so. Ignorance is an amazing thing.

EA really are a bunch of atrocious, selfish people that clearly don't care about their consumers. So much for wanting to 'connect' with their consumers, they won't even listen to us about how we WANT this game on Steam.

All because they want their own version of Steam... silly out of touch suits.
