In one of the closed threads it got me a 24h ban. The ban was related to endorsing piracy, which I never did. All I did was mentioning the bad word starting with "sand".

So either my ban was actually directed at someone else and hit the wrong target or the word starting with "sand" is really, really frowned upon.

I too would like to know why any mention of the word "sandbox" and a post is edited. From what I understand, it's a perfectly legal program, and it would allow users to protect themselves from what forced spyware installation would do on their system. How is this a bad thing?

Because it stops EA's datamining that the user agreed to by using their product.

Ra forbid someone keep their privacy.

Its sad that it is the only reason that I can think of why they don't want people using it.

If I walk into a random store and buy most products with cash, there's no way for anyone to know that I bought that product.  It's an anonymous transaction and my privacy is protected.

Why is it that I can no longer do the same with so many software products?

EA has no right to know that I've purchased and installed and played one of their products.  It's rediculous that they want anyone to believe that they do.

Many a post have been edited in other threads. Notice how very few mods or devs are online right now, particularly in this forum other than yourself. I was given a 24 hour ban for mentioning sandboxing and how it was the only alternative to piracy, which is looking more and more attractive, even if it validates the pseudo-reason of Origin. Because, let's face it. EA knows Origin isn't going to deter pirates anymore than any other sort of DRM. 24 hour ban. And even then I stated that I wasn't going to pirate the game, though it's certainly possible.

Yeah. Because I want to keep my info secret, and using a virtual machine = piracy. Totally.

hey EA: you just lost another customer.

Skyrim is probably going to take me a while to finish anyways.

I for one will not be contacting steam in any way shape or form asking for them to have ME3.

ME3 is not on steam because EA wants Origin to succeed, no other reason.

I do not believe for a second that Steam is at fault with its policies.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/08/notch-explains-why-you-cant-find-minecraft-on-steam.ars

Notch gave the exact same reason as to why Minecraft isn't on Steam, do you think he's full of it too?

Notch wants freedom to do random stuff

"We (probably?) wouldn't be able to, say, sell capes or have a map
market place on minecraft.net that works with steam customers in a way
that keeps Valve happy. It would effectively split the Minecraft
community into two parts, where only some of the players can access all
of the weird content we want to add to the game.
"

EA wants freedom to charge what they like, and to bilk customers out of money with the BioWare points system. There's no reason why standard DLC like, say DA2's Legacy couldn't be on Steam. Except that EA want to keep all the profits for themselves.

was merely curious Raem.....one would think they would have anticipated this reaction and had answers ready.

I am not affected as I am a console user....but I am saddened and feel REALLY more prone to start giving my money to Cretek or CDP (for different reasons)

Several posts that mentioned it have been edited, and in place of the post is the line "post edited" or "quote edited" followed by the Posted Image graphic.  Threads have been closed and the Moderator's closing post says that it was closed for discussion of "circumventing copy protection" when the only subject being discussed was the software that goes by the name in question.

Someone with moderation priviledges on these forums is doing their damnedest to make sure that subject is not talked about.

Didn't buy BF3 because of Origin, won't buy ME3 because of Origin either. Too bad, I love Bioware games, but well... You can't force a faulty, awfully conceived, software to customers. But well... Those same customers still whine about DLCs and keep buying them. So... In fact I guess you can.

Hopefully there will quickly be a way or another that'll allow the ones who bought the game to completely bypass Origin (the internet always finds a way...).

Skyrim is probably going to take me a while to finish anyways.

Same. On Steam, by the way.

Here's a quick and easy solution.

1. Buy ME3
2. Activate through Origin
3. Close Origin
4. Go to My Games folder and launch ME3 from there with Origin closed(I just did it with ME2 but I cannot do it with any Steam game)
5. Play ME3 with Origin off
6. ???
7. REAPERS!!!!

So I guess you were told not to sticky the thread.

I was literally the second person to respond to this thread and I remember that it was stickied at first. I wonder why it was unstickied.

In any case it doesn't really need a sticky because it's sticking to the top of the first page as it is.

You shouldn't get banned for mentioning Sandboxie because it breaks no forum rules and isn't even against Origin's EULA from what I understand.

No guarantee that you can do that with ME3. Its actually one of the most repeated questions on this thread.

It will come as no shock if they declare using a conventional firewall to block Origin's internet access tol also be considered an act of high-seas raiding, and linking to Zone Alarm or other firewall software websites will be considered "promoting high-seas raiding".

NOTE TO MODS:  I DO NOT ENGAGE IN, PROMOTE, OR ENCOURAGE ACTS OF HIGH-SEAS RAIDING.

NOTE TO OTHERS:  DO NOT ENGAGE IN SUCH ACTS, THEY MISS THE POINT ENTIRELY.

Yet it obviously happened to a certain jonathan Shepard too as can be seen on this page. A certain Voolus was handing out the kudos.

Technically, no, it's not. In fact, it just isolates Origin. Unless you're really damn good at programming those sorts of things (and I know I'm not), it'll be scanning the Origin files, which is fine, and Me3, which once again, is acceptable. But scanning anything else?

What the hell for?
Protecting your privacy should not be illegal, nor should it be ban-worthy.

One of the concerns was ME3 will require Origin running to even start. BF3 had the main menu in its browser, even to start single player campaign. Clicking on the .exe directly might not work anymore. Many Steam games does the same.

Thinking about it, it's really sad what PC gaming has become. It's even worse if our concerns are heard but ignored. I'm taking a break from this, back to ME2. The CD is still in my drive for the much welcomed CD check.

Shouldn't, I agree. But the way it's been getting censored, you would think its nudity on American television.

Going to cancell my pre-order. I had a feeling this would be the case. Good thing I decided to check here.

Too late, Origin has already scanned whatever it's scanning at that point (which EA can change on any update without notice or warning), and sent it back to EA.
