Well the Steam version has DRM (Steam) wonder how many sales were done there?
Not sure on the sales ratio for physical copy:Steam. Though, I bought the physical CE copy fully expecting a standard CD check. Sales should have boosted when they removed DRM altogether. If they had added something like Origin, then..

Agree with this. Kudos to CD Projekt indeed but what happened with Witcher 2 really does justify why companies use DRM.wolfsite wrote...
Honestly DRM free is th ebest option for hassle free gaemplay. However when stuff like this happens it can put people on guard
www.gamespot.com/news/witcher-2-dev-stops-pursuing-pirates-6348579
They sold 1 million copies which itself is quite impressive.... but the game was pirated to over 4.5 million people.
Other companies will see that as a huge loss in sales, especiialy when charging $40-$50 per game.
I give Kudos to CD Project for sticking to it's guns and not implementing DRM for the future right now. But that is a huge hit to there profits which is used to produce future games. That is what most business will see and why they feel DRM is necessary.
I have heard pirates claim "They do it to protect consumer freedoms" but when you do this to a company that tried to do the right thing.......... Well the pirates can go <Expletive> themselves.
Well CD Projekt's logic is that since DRMs don't stem pirating, then publishers might as well not create DRMs. It's a gesture of good faith to their customers and makes it more likely (they believe) that their games will continue to be purchased in the future. It might even increase sales.
I think they have the right idea.

Now I hate that EA bought BioWare! Origin is such a bad software distribution program. Unlike Steam, there exists little to no community activity on Origin. EA stop trying to promote your platform and give in to what your consumers desire!
EA wants a loooooooots of money and they don't want to share them with Valve ;P Also, for some reason all EA games that are on Steam are overpriced for some reason.

Off-topic: I come home after a long night, go to IGN, and right on the front page '' Mass Effect 3 to require Origin''. I read the article, and when I finished, I said to myself '' Hmm, I wonder how BSN is doing''. 73 pages in less than a day. I knew this would happen
As for Origin, I don't really care. What could EA possibly do with my science report? What do I care if they see what games I play? Unless you do accounting or something work related on your computer, you shouldn't be worried. Apart from Origin, it's the same one use activation code we're used to. Anyone who is willing to miss out on Mass Effect 3 just because of Origin, probably isn't a big fan to begin with ( note the probably in my sentence).
Its principles man. Standards as to what we deem acceptable. I don't sleep with random women every night because of them. Doesn't mean I don't like sex.

I honestly don't care, it's clearly stated that data collected is ANONYMOUS, so it doesn't affect me personally in any way.
Never worked for a pollster, I guess?
I did, back in the 90ies as a student job - for a leading international institute. That's why I have my reservations when someone tells me about anonymised data collecting.

Did you know about the constant net connection form of DRM? Say their server is down for a day, you won't be able to play it on your own PC for that day. Even though it's just single player.

Rome ain't build in 1 day.
Valve with Steam needed long time to get what it is today.
EA with Origin will need the same.

Or it's simply their reasonable pragmatism. Why spend millions on something that won't stop the pirates and will only affect and irritate legitimate customers?Weskerr wrote...

Wow I actually have to rethink my purchase now. I can deal with a game requiring authentication/activation, but now I need to install a third party application, especially one I never plan on using just to play the game. I do use steam, but has has always been optional rather than forced upon me. And I was so looking forward to Mass Effect 3, oh well at least I still got Diablo 3 going this year
you wont like diablo3 ... there doing the game WITH no single offline mode you have to be online to play there drm makes so you cant play d3 without a internet connection

There will also be an auction house that uses real world currency.

You mean as long again as they've already had? Origin is a rebranding of the EA Download Manager (EA downloader before that and EA link before that) which has been around longer than Steam has. The fact it still is bloody awful as both a content delivery system and store just speaks to their own oncompetence more than anything.

Speaking of which, Blizzard has gone straight up retarded, ever since WoW, they have changed their business practices and approach to maximizing profits (different philosophy, one I don't agree with)

This is true, but all the rules are thrown out the window come one of Steam's legendary sales events. I think this weekend Dead Space 1 & 2 (bought together) cost eight dollars (not 100% on that). Grrr how and why did Origin even come about?
