i wish this thread was all about Q&A and discussions centered around the necessity of origin instead of all these "HAHAAAA! GUESS NO MONEY FROM ME, EA!"-... huh... guess i'd have to call 'em "contributions" - even though that does not exactly fit the terminology in my opinion. *sigh*

I've read the opening post, and Bioware has already posted one blatant and clear lie -- Origin's behavior in tests made it clear that it is, in fact, spyware.  Origin's installer exibited the behaviors of spyware, beginning to scan unrelated folders before the user had even accepted the terms of the installation.

No one who cares about their privacy or security should ever install Origin.

I will not be purchasing ME3, and I will encourage all gamers I am in contact with to refrain from purchasing ME3.

The only way to stop publishers from cramming things like Origin down your throat is to not purchase their products until their behavior changes.  Only their bottom line matters to them, they have no ethics and no morals.

This right here.
This man understands.
I would say I'm disapointed in EA but at this point its par for the course.  People who use the "you should hate steam as well" argument are grasping.  Steam doesn't intrude on me one iota.  I don't trust Origin and nothing will persuade me to use it.
The simple fact is that these people will continue doing it only as long as we let it.  We'd all be using Games For Windows Live and paying a subscription to play singleplayer games if people didn't stand up and say NO MORE!
I'm sad that it has to be ME3 where I make my stand but I'd rather protect my computer from this than take the risk.

Amen.

Well competition for Steam is good.  It will force Steam to continue to provide a good service.

Valve is not trying, Valve is.

Anyway, Valve's treatment to users is extremely more fiendly than EA's.

And a platform war based entirely in exclusive games does nothing but screw players.

My stance with Origin and Mass Effect 3.

Ok we all know by now that Origin will be required to play Mass Effect 3 on PC.

The fact is I’m still going to per-order ME3 simply because it’s going to be a great game. I’m not going to let this “thing” get in the way of giving my money to bioware.

I agree, I am not going to shoot myself in foot over something that does not offend me as much as others.

ME3 will be I beleive an amazing game and quite likely one of the best of the entire year.

I support Bioware by buying good games, I do not buy the games that I do not think are great but that choice is solely based on the quality of game and not any slight inconvenience of DRM or clients used to play. I use Steam, I use Origin, I used D2D and Gamersgate plus more. I even bought games from Ubisoft which has the worst DRM so far to date and I will be buying Diablo 3 even with it's always online approach.

To me a good game, one of great quality I will not deprive myself of just out of spite or some principle that others have and to me is redundant and unlike so many other principles, this specific principle about privacy will not cure cancer, will not resolve world hunger or bring about world peace; in reality this principle of privacy in general is a selfish principle and is solely based on "I" or "Me". We have a short period of time to live this life and everyday that passes it gets shorter, why the hell would I chose to spend all that time moaning about something that will mean bugger all when you kick the bucket. An inconvenience is just that and while is slightly annoying, if rage about so much in life and remain bitter all the time what time you have left you are only punishing yourself imho.

I will buy ME3, in fact buying three copies and I am going to take down all the names of every single person who has said wont buy, lost customer and cancelled pre-order in this thread so that the people who said it is a fallacy that people use threats and huff and puff do not exist on BSN will be shown the light next time they call me mistaken at the time ME3 is released and those same people are playing it, have bought it and did pre-order. I have seen it time and time again on here and while at the time I did not write down the names of all those who claimed those made threats at the time I do recall most of them did not in fact carry out their threats.

I would love to see a fair price and service competition (also with Valve's games being able to play without steam), but I don't think that would happen.

We are most likele to see a competition based in forcing players to use one platform based in its exclusive products.

Now imagine Activision joining the competition.... and Ubisoft.... and 2K games.... F**k that, it would be plain awful.

I think it is more a case of no one taking Chris's offer seriously.  No matter what evidence is shown or what proof we provide it is always a "oh no that is blah de blah and all totally innocent honest guv'nor".  If we had irrefutable proof that Origin grew legs and set about murdering your pets I am sure the response would be "oh no that is a windows process doing that, honest it has nothing to do with EA whatsoever ....... oh btw did you check our new EULA that specifically states that Origin can grow legs and murder your pets".

Agreed.  After all, that is what everyone was told after DA2 when we were offering proof that it included Scu-ROM, and Bioware pretty much told us that we were imagining it (or that it was "Secu-ROM" but wasn't Secu-ROM).

No they aren't king. Awefully close, though, and that's also a problem.

And Origin is also (planning on) selling games of other publishers.

Anyway, I'm out. I've got stuff to do.

I really doubt that will happen to many. Don't be.

Well it's becoming a more cinematic experience anyway.  Lots of cutscenes with a bit of action in between.  I'll be content to youtube the end of the trilogy.

Not irrelevant. If I block my Antivirus program it also cannot get it's scheduled updates and it's still working fine. There is only a notice in the logfile. So don't call me paranoid because I've tested some core functions in an unexpected way! It's simply sleazy programmed, a failed connection should not be the reason for a crash.

I just tested this on the latest version.  Told my firewall to block all Origin traffic.  All it did was throw up an error dialog, and then put itself in offline mode.

i'm fully aware of this, i've been reading the last 30ish pages. the point is that 1) mods/whoever is responsible for getting answers is most likely not going to work right now (i have no idea what time it is in canada) and 2) all the rage people are venting off just does not make it easier to go through this thread. i know, its the internet and all... yet i'd like to see mature discussion instead of useless rambling.

Well, there will be no hiding what Origin does once the game is released; tech savy folks will know within days and report it on the web. If it truly data mines, then we'll all know.

No Steam, no sale.

I didn't buy Battlefield 3 because of Origin, and I'm not going to get Mass Effect 3 because of this.

That's two AAA titles that I was looking forward to day-one purchases that I will have skipped. And I had hoped to get the deluxe edition of Mass Effect 3 (I have Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 in my Steam account already).

Screw you, EA...you will not be getting any more of my money.

Yes because steam is so different from Origin. Makes perfect sense. Not really.

Confirmed for mad-as-hell Biodrone, probably an employee (wouldn't be the first time right?  lol).

Go back and read through the entire thread, plenty of differences have been listed.

You might not be aware of the fact I've been active in this thread for hours.

If I make a simplified statement as to my opinion on the subject doesn't mean my opinion is per say uneducated or that i'm uninformed.

Infact, don't be surprised if you see some people going out of their way to get pirated copies out to the masses just to spite EA...

Also, buying 3 copies?  LMAO, could your anger be any more obvious Biodrone?

Six years ago, at the height of my spyware paranoia, I would have freaked out at this news.

Then Ubisoft came along, first with Starforce; computer-breaking DRM created by colossal douches, then their infamous internet leash DRM. I've also since then learned a few things about the internet advertising business.

Now, anything short of going Ubisoft doesn't sound so terrible anymore, so I'm still buying ME3 for PC. Can't imagine what information EA collects and what they do with them could be any worse than what websites I frequent usually collect.

Besides, I use my gaming PC ONLY for gaming. All my private information are on my laptop, which does not have Origin. A purely 2-year-old coincidence I've never realised until now. Collect away.

Three copies for three separate people who want a copy one person making the choice to buy all three so all three could enjoy it. The fact you have called two people not just myself Biodrones because we have different opinions proves to me your ignorance.

Guess you have never read any topics I have created. The opposite applies more then your assumption.

Just posting to let you know you lost a sale. I was going to pre-order the PC Collector's Edition Monday but I'm not going to now. Origin is garbage and no game is worth having it installed. If you change your mind and let physical copies run independently I'll pre-order it.

Edit:

What I find funny is I WANT  to spend $80 on this game and I'll want to buy the DLC  for it.  I should be the ideal customer for EA/Bioware because I don't pirate software and I don't support piracy, yet they put a barrier between myself and a game I want to legally own.  I'm sorry but that's just silly and extremely sad at the same time.

This.  I WILL buy ME3 if (and ONLY if) the physical copies can run without Origin.  I have never bought a Collector's Edition in my life, and I really wanted to buy this Collector's Edition.  It is a shame that Origin will be the thing that prevents me from playing and enjoyng a game I so want to own.  There are, however, some lines I will not cross, and that is one of them.  It's a shame, asit would have been fun.

So your response to people complaining that this is spyware and that they like their privacy to compile a list to track their purchases? I really hope this is hyperbole otherwise it is way beyond necessary to make your point and very creepy.

:D

I'll do it for three reasons first being I'm bored, second being people have insinuated that when people in here said most of the ones making such threats tend to actually not stick to the threats they make on BSN, they called them mistaken. They are not mistaken and as saidearlier I have seen it happen many times and in order to not have them make that same insinuation again there will be evidence to back it up. The last reason is simply out of curiousity just how many people are all bark and no bite (that one I admit is a little creepy but the rest imho are fine).
