Having principles is great, but this is the very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Denying yourself access to the final chapter of a great trilogy of games to make some sort of point just seems crazy to me. Especially since EA doesn't care about your point at all. It will not impact their bottom line one iota.

If people didn't stand up to these kinds of things and take extreme issues with it.  We'd be paying Microsoft a subscription fee to play singleplayer games right now.

You probably will end up doing so in 10 years regardless of taking any stance, M$ care less about you than EA.

Not that Bioware cares about my one sale, but usually I will buy two copies of Bioware games, one for PC and one for Xbox. Until these games are available on Steam or do not require the use of Origin, I will not be buying any Bioware games on PC.

This alone is enough reason to deny Origin.

It's sad that some of you are so willing to bend over and OBEY EA...:?

@kofelover,
this was a joke right into the direction of those people who always claming that we are paranoid and have no proof about Origin is spyware. I think it is spyware. Your example shows it for me at least.
Do you have a new game installed?

Which one should I try -- ME2??  I have other EA games installed on Steam but are not showing up in Origin such as Mirrors Edge, Bulletstorm, etc., but they are older.  Someone suggested it was only newer games.  I bought Alice on 10/22/11 and I don't think I've purchased and installed another EA game through Steam since.

I'll try any suggestion you'd like.

Origin:
Has been repeatidly caught looking for files outside its own folder and changing its properties.

There are also some reports claiming it is able to breach sandboxing (unverifiable).

How so? This is a deal-breaker if true.

I'm trying to find out too, Google is not helping so far. Chris Priestly said that it is actually a windows process not Origin that scans for its own reasons. I can't seem to find an alternative explanation so I am not sure if this isn't just uninformed hysteria or not.

Anyone else on here remember back to ME when Bioware was teamed up Microsoft? You know, super evil corporation #1? Seems to me that I don't remember near the amount to rage and hassle about installing ME on PC then. So congrats, EA. You make Microsoft seem like the lesser evil in the Super Evil Organization category.

There was a similar amount of rage when the PC port's DRM was revealed.

Steam is just a bridge between the customer and the product. They're not responsible for what you do on all the games' servers. They will ban your whole account if you do anything on a Valve/Valve protected game that breaks the TOS they can't do that for other games because they're legally not allowed to.

EA owns Origin and all of Origin is EA controlled. They're god. If you go around promoting piracy and circumventing their power of course they're going to ban you.

I don't know how VAC came into this but I have no problem with it because I will never cheat in a multiplayer game and I think people who do it are ****s who find fun in ruining it for the rest of us.

I disagree entirely. In the end, Mass Effect 3 is just a game. It might be a great game, I don't know that, but still, just a game. Not playing a game is a small price to pay for standing by your principles, I'd say. Especially in such a clear-cut case such as this one.

This is laughable to me. These measures accomplish nothing. Case in point, I've refused to pay for Xbox live gold for years, and yet I still can't play any multiplayer games. Why didn't Microsoft listen? Because I am one in a million. Why would they care?

Not buying it on PC but I'm outraged none-the-less. I don't have to authenticate my Blu-Ray discs before I play them and it is very easy to pirate those. But guess what? Twenty years from now, if I so wished to, I can dust off my ol' PS3, pop in one of my many legitimately purchased Blu-Ray movies, and it will.....work. NO. FREAKING. WAY. And yet.....Hollywood seems to be doing okay. Strange? I think not.

Too bad I can't say the same about contemporary PC games; extended rentals indeed (at least Steam is the lesser of all the other evils)! Origin has to go; period. There is no need for Origin. Steam seems to be every Publisher's/developer's best friend right now; oh right, except for you guys (lookin' at you BioWare/EA). Hmm, maybe Valve isn't the problem. Perhaps SOMEone should stop pointing the finger outward for a second because when you point the finger at someone else, there are THREE pointing back at YOU. Remember that. I don't see Valve coming out and bashing EA for their "poor co-operation" or some such non-sense.

You are trying to compete with the iTunes of the video game industry. It's not gonna happen. Music publishers tried to do the same thing you are doing right now when iTunes came out. Steve Jobs wanted to unify music downloads. Publishers were upset at this because they wanted to be in control and thought certain songs were worth more than others. Steve Jobs flipped them the ol' bird and said, "step aside, or get crushed under my heel, but don't get in my way" (PUN INTENDED). Guess what? They all fell in line pretty quickly after they started realizing the sheer market dominance iTunes hard garnered.

Valve has the digital distribution market cornered; they own it with pride and confidence while doing a hell of a job. You aren't gonna beat'em. Origin is a drop in the ocean to Valve, and all they'll do is sit back and laugh at the profit's EA has lost over this mess. Good job guys.

Funny you should bring that up i'm reminded about the raging over SecuROM and their **** policies about how many installs you are allowed and locking you out of the game you paid for. And then all the conspiracy theories about it installing a rootkit. Actually that sounds exactly like now but withouit the evil policies that SecuROM bought to the table

I'm on xbox. But I sympathize.

Being forced to be on the internet to play a game..., it's really not cool. My internet does not always work, it gives me chills when i think about that. Fortunately, I never play pc games.

Can someone please honor guys like me who doesn't have Steam, because of the same reason they don't want Origin? This Steam talk makes me very unhappy.
Half of the thread is about Steam. Nobody talks about the real issue here.

And wasn't a patch issued at a later date the removed the install limit?

I guess it's a matter of how important the particular principle happens to be. No one is being harmed in any real way, so I have trouble seeing how this principle is important enough for anyone to intentionally hobble themselves over it.

That's Biodrones for ya.  Re-direct the blame.

A Biodrone has nothing to do with Origin. I think you don't understand the meaning behind that term. Origin is a device created by EA not BioWare.

Disc checks make sense for a retail edition.

Online checks for a retail edition don't.

I hate requiring anything to do with online for a retail purchased single player game.

I, for one, have never had an issue with disc checks.  I have never understood outrage regarding them as they seem like a sensible solution in my eyes.  I would take that over Origin any day.
