Not buying it on PC but I'm outraged none-the-less. I don't have to authenticate my Blu-Ray discs before I play them and it is very easy to pirate those. But guess what? Twenty years from now, if I so wished to, I can dust off my ol' PS3, pop in one of my many legitimately purchased Blu-Ray movies, and it will.....work. NO. FREAKING. WAY. And yet.....Hollywood seems to be doing okay. Strange? I think not.
Too bad I can't say the same about contemporary PC games; extended rentals indeed (at least Steam is the lesser of all the other evils)! Origin has to go; period. There is no need for Origin. Steam seems to be every Publisher's/developer's best friend right now; oh right, except for you guys (lookin' at you BioWare/EA). Hmm, maybe Valve isn't the problem. Perhaps SOMEone should stop pointing the finger outward for a second because when you point the finger at someone else, there are THREE pointing back at YOU. Remember that. I don't see Valve coming out and bashing EA for their "poor co-operation" or some such non-sense.
You are trying to compete with the iTunes of the video game industry. It's not gonna happen. Music publishers tried to do the same thing you are doing right now when iTunes came out. Steve Jobs wanted to unify music downloads. Publishers were upset at this because they wanted to be in control and thought certain songs were worth more than others. Steve Jobs flipped them the ol' bird and said, "step aside, or get crushed under my heel, but don't get in my way" (PUN INTENDED). Guess what? They all fell in line pretty quickly after they started realizing the sheer market dominance iTunes hard garnered.
Valve has the digital distribution market cornered; they own it with pride and confidence while doing a hell of a job. You aren't gonna beat'em. Origin is a drop in the ocean to Valve, and all they'll do is sit back and laugh at the profit's EA has lost over this mess. Good job guys.
