I don't think anyone's trying to prove anything, simply answering the question in the title, based on experiences in the first two games.

ME3 insanity should be hard, from what we've been told. But I don't think its going to be tedious along the lines of ME1 (immunity popping enemies). If it is, then I would spare myself the pain/boredom, and turn it down a notch.

I don't feel as though I have anything to prove. I attach a difficulty to a Shepard, and stick with it. My canon, and what I I'm planning to use as my first ME3 playthrough, is my Insanity run. Next will be Casual, which I'm doing second because I'm not as invested in this Shepard.

Veteran, gives me a bit of challenge while still progresses the story at a nice pace. Plus storywise It makes it seem enemies are a challenge to Shepard, but he still has best equipment

RPG Mode/Normal. Even though Veteran, and "Hardcore" is still easy(at least it was in ME2).

I just feel like I should be playing normal over the other modes. Anything else just feels wrong.

Normal and work my way up. I hate that a bartender has military grade armor and shields and takes more firepower to down than an enraged Krogan. Bad difficulty design, IMO.

I don't want to know what bars you are hanging out at, hahaha!

On topic, I'd say the equivalant of casual first, then eventually Veteran, Hardcore, Insanity, which is what I did in the original. Second one I just dove into Insanity at one point....I am still having nightmares about the collector ship's Praetoron

Good man! Being drunk also makes the extreme difficulty more bearable I find!

Well, when I've done it, it's been with games I've played so many times, that I know them like the back of my hand.

Improving timing, learning enemy tendencies, spawn points, and having the right controller all help to make it easier on the higher difficulties. I happen to like the rhythm of combat on Insanity, if that makes any sense.

And check out the Strategy forum, I have linked in my sig, there's lots of great videos and advice in the threads there.

I think I'll play on hardcore. I'm not going to pressure myself to do insanity - but at least enemies will have shields, armor, and barriers, making the battles far more intense.

I'll go for hardcore first to get a feel for the game and the enemies, then go to insanity.

Hardcore mode.

Easy enough to not be frustrating, while hard enough so you can't plow right through. The best type of difficulty IMO.

Hardcore.. just to pace the game better. I'll eventually do an insanity run, but I know I won't have the patience for it right off the bat.

I plan on figuring this out with the demo. If Normal seems too easy, then I'll play on Hardcore. I actually never played ME2 on Normal difficulty - I'd just played ME1 about a week for ME2 was released, so I hopped right in with Veteran. Apparently, ME3's Normal is equivalent to ME2's Veteran, so it might be enough.

I do have one issue with the higher difficulty settings in ME2, though. While more challenging, they also don't quite feel right. The enemies are just a bit too hardy and react a bit too quickly. I know it's a video game, but it hurts my sense of immersion a little. If on Hardcore the enemy is only slightly tougher, but much more aggressive and tactical, then I probably won't have this issue.

I dunno, Hardcore or Insanity. Depends. They say it will be harder than ME2. Hope it will.

If the last two games are any indication, I'll probably do veteran the first playthrough then insanity on further playthroughs.

I always play Normal. My hands are kind of shaky, so I can't really play on any of the higher difficulties. Even Normal is a bit of a stretch for me, but I enjoy the challenge.

I'll also be playing in RPG Mode.

Probably Insanity. If it gets too frustrating i'll bump it down and come back to it after i've had the chance to enjoy the story.

normal...unlike some games, I think the ME series plays best on normal, upping the difficulty makes it more tedious imo.

Hardcore the first time around, then I'll bump it up to Insanity for the achievement.

Then I'll decide which setting I think is more fun.   In general I prefered Insanity last time unless you were playing on NG+ in which case I found insanity a little too frustrating early on since the game knocked up the difficulty based on your character's level and didn't take into account the fact that you hadn't gotten any upgrades.

Story mode, maybe RPG mode. Easy as possible for the combat... maybe one step up from easiest.
