I see a lot of people saying they'll start on veteran. Thing is, there is no veteran. The difficulties are:

Narrative
Casual
Normal
Hardcore
Insanity

Since normal is the new veteran, that's where I'll start.

I play on the easiest first, then Insanity.

The easiest setting in this game is close to god mode. You can still die but only if you try really hard. I remember reading a tweet that said the flow of the narrative is affected by rushing through the game on a low difficulty setting.

As I said, ME3 doesn't have veteran.

Where's that info from? If that's correct, than hardcore seems to stay pretty much, where it was, so, I won't need to lower it.

I'll be going Insanity, because I'm taking my character model, my first ever male Shep, and in a few days im gonna do a few ME1 playthroughs, get him to max lv, full the best equipment, 100% all missions + my DLC, then I'll do the same in ME2, continuing with my first ever model shep, 100% with all the equipment, all playthroughs will be on insanity.

thats ME1 and ME2.. but.. ME3.. I want to do insanity but I've heard that its a much much much harder game then ME2, like you know the interviews where Casy says Normal is the old Insanity? That worrys me.

Anyway I'll probably TRY on Insanity, dunno though.

Insanity in ME3 should be alright, so long as there's no collector ship type battles. That was the only battle I ever had any real problems with on insanity.

Anyway, I'll probably play on Normal for my first playthrough, then do the harder difficulties.

Normal, I want to enjoy the game without any stress, but I dont want to feel like someones holding my hand through it. I'll probably give insanity a go after my first playthrough.

Lol, same here. My first go with a Vanguard on insanity was a walk in the park, but on that damn ship I kept running out of ammo. As a Soldier it was all too easy though.

Hardcore.

Insanity can be gruelling at times, so dont want to do that on my first play.  But I want a bit of a challenge still

Originally leaked beta but I think the devs have confirmed that more recently. I'll try to find a reliable source.

Edit: Found it. Confirmation by Manveer Heir on Twitter.

No, there are difficulty options in the option screen. Narrative, Casual, Normal, Hardcore, and Insanity

I'll probably go with Casual until I've gotten into the game, then I'll switch to Insanity. :)

1st Playthrough - Sentinel Hardcore.
2nd Playthrough - Vanguard Insanity.

ME3 probably will have similar "Game Finished" bonuses like what we saw in ME1&2, so I think playing anything less then Hardcore after that takes all the gameplay fun out of it, or is plain lazy.

I do hope that they balance out each difficulty level more, since in ME2 even on hardcore or insanity - once you reached a certain Upgrades\\Character level. the game became extremely easy, not much different that Normal.

We're using ME2 terminology of course. Just assume the people saying normal mean casual and the people saying veteran mean normal.

It really looks like mostly the same difficulty options just slightly renamed anyway, assuming of course that hardcore is still where the enemies get protections.

Insanity?.....Yeah I am going to go for Normal or Casual with no progression on difficulty. The most I will play this game is 4 times to see the variation in story.

I will start with Normal or Hardcore, then move to Insanity when I get used to the controls.
