I see a lot of people saying they'll start on veteran. Thing is, there is no veteran.

No one at BioWare said anything of the sort.

I believe the difficulties are:

-Narrative
-Easy
-Normal
-Hardcore
-Insanity

So first playthrough I'll go normal (it is meant to be like veteran from the last two) and then I'll replay with the same character on insanity.

Ye'll I'll be doing the same, then I'll do the other classes play throughs and most likely be back on BSN ****ing about Adept clear times/overall abilities compared to other classes.  Then I'll make it my mission to never purchase EA/BW product after having already bought DA2 and command and conquer 4.

Just to everyone who said Insanity:

I don't think that is possible on the FIRST playthrough, like in ME1 and 2. Just so you know ;)

As so many have said before, insanity was only locked in ME1.  In ME2, you could choose any difficulty from the beginning.

Drunken Insanity (thats when you get drunk, then try and play it on insanity. A REAL difficulty mode made for manly men)

This is the Pro Elite choice, I will be playing the same manly difficulty.

Normal, because I still have a few intact brain cells.

Insanity because I cannot play anything else. All the sheps I make now are on Insanity mode and that is where I am comfortable. And I will play on hardcore if it is not available. (Insanity that is.) Plus I am insane so it fits!

Probably Normal or Veteran. I don't really want to deal with the stupid protections on every damn enemy with an adept though (otherwise I'd have moved up). One day I will do insanity.

This. Once you get used to it, it's the only way to play. I almost wish there was a higher difficulty built in.

If I get it I'd probably start on Veteran or Hardcore until I've seen all the new enemy types, their powers, etc. Then bump it up to Insanity.

As with most games, I'll start on normal and ramp up the difficulty with each subsequent playthrough.

Normal if Adept powers works on protected ennemies, the easiest difficulty if they don't.

Veteran or Hardcore. I also like to play for the story the first time, but normal is no fun at all.

Wrex, Garrus and Shep are taking cover from a massive assault from Reaper troops, the Reapers darken the skies over their position.

Wrex: (starts laughing)
Garrus: *stares at Wrex then Shep questioningly*
Wrex: replies between laughter "Shep told Harbinger we'd fight in the shade then"
(they all begin laughing)
Legion: (crouches and rolls toward Shep until crounching infront of him)  *stares almost face to face at Shep watching him laugh) Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB and begins dubstep/techno laughter*

After playing a few Inasnity playthroughs anything else is a walk in the park.

Normal.

If it were like back in the day, when the player was actually awarded something significant for playing on a higher difficulty like unlocking 2 - 4 extra stages/scenarios, extra skills, extra bosses, the True Final Boss or the True Ending, then yes I would definitely play on a higher difficulty level.

BUT, these days it doesn't matter. The game is "basically" the same on any setting. And your ONLY reward for trying harder is a goddamn trophy/achievement. F@#% that!

So nowadays I only play on Normal.

ditto

got to ease into it just to take it all in. I rather hope the low difficulty levels present some challenge.

I'm tempted to play this on Easy - just to get the story down first. However, I think I will start on normal and comeback again for Insanity.

Yeah, how mean it is to allow casual players to have access to the full content of a game...
