I see a lot of people saying they'll start on veteran. Thing is, there is no veteran.

I have no shame... I'll probably play on normal and if it gets too hard, I'll switch to casual. I've always been a lot more interested in the story than challenging gameplay.

As always, Casual and then I jump up to the highest difficulty if there's an appropriate achievement/trophy/medal.
I don't need to play on a higher difficulty to have fun or "feel like I'm getting my money's worth"... I get my kicks from Not Dying, being OverPowered, and the Story. I don't like difficulty getting in the way with my story progress.

Casual/Easy/Story mode.
I don't play games for challenge, I play them for escapism and to be entertained. I put up with more than enough crap in my daily life that the last thing I want to do is spend my precious spare time getting getting stressed or feeling like I've being kicked while I'm down. I will probably try the other difficulties when I know the game, the enemies, the levels, the storyline and the different variables inside out.

Mass Effect 1 = Casual. Because I REALLY don't care about the gameplay on that title. It sucked imo, wasn't just polished enough. So, I just went in for the story and roleplaying aspect of it.
Mass Effect 2 = Veteran. Because the game just plays pretty well now (still has some issues with controls, but nothing huge), I'll rise up the difficulty and I have fun.

Veteran or Hardcore.

Likely the hardest. If it starts taking absurd amounts of time, I may dumb it down tone it down to a lower difficulty.

I'll try my hand at the hardened normal. If there are weapons or items that can only be obtained using certain difficulties (like the Geth Pulse Rifle in ME2), then i'll delve into Hardcore+.

Casual.I've always had a saying when it comes to games. I don't look for challenge, I look for fun.
I only have an issue if it's too easy.

if it's as easy as ME2, then one or two settings above normal (ME2 was way to easy, ME1 was more challenging and had to use the abilities more often on normal than ME2, ME 1 was fine on normal, ME2 was too easy, almost boring on normal)

I'll start at normal and work myself up to hardcore on my second run.
