I care more about what they say in the review and what light they cast it in. The number is normally misleading or arbitrary.

Edit: This is reviews in general, not just IGN.

It will get a 9.5. I see it now. IGN does this all the time. They'll probably give a different not as "mainstream" game a ten a feww weeks before ME3 launches and then give it a 9.5. I'm calling it.

At worst, it's going to be a 9.0 because I seriously doubt it'll be DA2 bad.

I would guess a 9.5. Some bugs and a (possibly) flawed multiplayer segment will keep it from getting a 10.

ME3 will clearly get a universal acclaim with a metacritic score above 90, and A, or 9/10 average from...pretty much all gaming communities.

Knowing IGN editor's tastes, and knowing their obvious favoritism toward the Mass Effect series, and IF ME3 comes through with all of its promises of grandeur and genuine emotion, then it can't be anything less than a 10/10.

They won't care about nitpicky things like "Paragon Bias" or "X squadmember is barely in it!" or "Not Mordin's voice actor!" These are things that are limited to the BSN. I will nitpick as a Mass Effect fan (probably not those particular examples, but I'm sure there will be things that peeve me personally), but my guess for my own rating based on what I've seen would be a 9.8.

Well, most of us probably know that if there is a magazine that is not affraid to show their love for Mass Effect, it's probably IGN. So, unless their policy will change by the time Mass Effect 3 is released, it should be a very good score (9,5 - 10) especially because unlike for example Gamespot, IGN guys put a lot of emphasis on overall impression and wow factor and do not rate games according to specific categories so strictly. And they are also more forgiving to bugs if the game is otherwise good.

So yes, if Mass Effect 3 will have a lot of emotional moments and really dramatic and epic ending, it could be a 10.

 I'm expecting 9.5 from IGN but they have handed out 8.5-9.0s like crazy the last year or so... but occasionally they give out 10s seemingly out of personal affections for games rather than on journalistic grounds and there are a couple of IGN writers who adore Mass Effect.

In my opinion personal feelings aside MGS4 is the only truely masterful title this generation deserving of a 10 because it's masterful in ALL catagories. If Skyward Sword could have been built instead for a decent platform like Wii U it might have stood a chance.

Then there are games like GTA IV and Uncharted 3 for example which is truely a great game but not a masterful one; as not only is it shorter than UC2, has little more if any replay value and the environments and level design in my opinion arguably aren't as good then it doesn't warrent a better score than the last game. Certainly not a ten. Tens are solid gold... damn near perfect.

Will Mass Effect 3 be masterful? My gut says no. It's possibly the best Mass Effect & BioWare title yet but will it be innovative? Will it be the benchmark for years to come? I'm not so sure.
