Out of all possible mags, why did you pick IGN, OP?:innocent:

Well, most of us probably know that if there is a magazine that is not affraid to show their love for Mass Effect, it's probably IGN. So, unless their policy will change by the time Mass Effect 3 is released, it should be a very good score (9,5 - 10) especially because unlike for example Gamespot, IGN guys put a lot of emphasis on overall impression and wow factor and do not rate games according to specific categories so strictly. And they are also more forgiving to bugs if the game is otherwise good.

So yes, if Mass Effect 3 will have a lot of emotional moments and really dramatic and epic ending, it could be a 10.

Well, it most certainly won't be Kristine doing the reviewing (she did DA2, I believe), as she works at Bioware now.

I havn't trusted IGN reviews in a long time, especially not since the Avatar t.v. series reviews.

Jessica Chobot could wear anything she wants to as far as I'm concerned.

Biased? Maybe. Image IPB

My thoughts as well. The game could be a piece of crap in both story and gameplay, would it still deserve that 9.8?

Yep. If I had to make a guess, I would say that they will probably give it to Charles Onyett since it seems, that he is now specializing on RPGs and RPG related games (Witcher 2, Skyrim). IMO he is also a slightly better reviewer than Kristine used to be - more down to earth:P and more focused on overall package.

But wait, that would lower Mass Effect 3's chances to receive 10 from IGN.^_^ Either way, we will see...

Not that I would let a gaming websites review deter me from getting this game, but the only review I'll give any sort of credence to based on its reputation will be Joystiq (though I could have done without their star-rating system).

Where IGN looses me is in their propensity for troll articles. The most recent one that came to mind was Winner: Dark Souls op piece. I get that it's an opinion article but if you're going to write it, at least give well thought out reasons. It was ridiculous.

I also dislike their habit of sensationalizing gaming news. They called Skyrim's ps3 issues a crisis. In the middle of a worldwide financial slowdown where people are loosing their jobs, homes, etc., a game playing poorly is dubbed a crisis? And then they cite their poll and only 30 something percent of respondents said they were having issues.

IGN will probably give ME 3 a good rating but frankly, I think IGN as a whole is worthless for anything other than a few laughs and watching the beautiful Jessica Chobot.

They will rate it 10/10, no question about it - knowing IGN they will also mention, that this game has better storyline than Planescape: Torment, adventure is more fun than Baldur's Gate II and game world is bigger than Daggerfall's one (ME has the WHOLE GALAXY!).

You can't really trust ign. In their review they basically said Mass Effect 2 was perfect. But eventhough it is a great game and deserves much praise it was still far from perfect. IGN brought out articles afterwards bringing up problems that have been discussed in these and other forums all the time like the cartoonish sexism, the predictable and repetative linear level layouts, continuity etc.
ME3 will probably be much better but still not perfect, it can't be, not the way the industry works (time). So what are they going to say? Its better than perfect? And the next time it's better than better than perfect? The big name game reviewers can't be taken very seriously anymore, in times where a result of 80% which would normally mean "good", now means "complete failure".

10/10. IGN are Mass Effect fans, and they are famous for giving biased reviews.
