As just about everybody here has stated, no "phat lewt" DLC's, no items dropping from the sky into packs.

I'd really have liked a post end-game DLC/expansion, with more levels and talents/spells (eg. new shield talents for s&b warriors, not making them take dw or 2h ones) together with a nice meaty quest.

Since that is unlikely to happen I think the realistic wish for me would be to see a series of DLC unrelated to the main quest, but that could carry the DLC PC char through an entire series. Ofcourse each 'episode' in such a series must be significantly longer than 1hr playtime. Buying something like the existing (and announced) DLC in the future is very unlikely.

The existing type of DLC is great while everybody are on their 1st or 2nd playthrough. By the time the Ostagar DLC comes out I'm probably not going to be interested enough to start new playthrough just to experience that 1hr of content (and I'm not going to reload a pre-end game save to go get the phat lewt just to beat the last boss one more time with the same char/party). I'll hopefully be busy playing community made stand alone mods at that time.

Small but complete story/advantage...Hmm not sure how to put it but, something like the one that small quest comes with 'The Witcher'.

Forget loot, loot driven DLC can DIAF.

DLC that I will pay for -

1 - A story behind the adventure.
2 - Updating the Codex (how will they do this when there is a set amount of 200 already in-game).
3 - Offers party interaction.
4 - Offers NEW areas to explore. (Exterior more than interior)
5 - Offers a new Origin. (Dalish Mage as an example).
6 - Offers a new companion to the campaign.
7 - Offers a new character ability (Monk as an example).

I am not interested in DLC that -

1 - Offers new items.
2 - Offers a merchant that sells new items.
3 - Makes a door available in a village/town/city that is a store that sells new items.

Basically, give me substance for my money.

I'm interested primarily in a story continuation with the main story progressing somewhat or getting more insight into the main characters (more Alistair, please? *snicker*). I like a great storyline & unique quests - kind of like the Broken Circle/Fade thing (yes, I know, some people hated it, but I thought it was creative & different). I also thought that  the Deep Roads section of the game was excellent, if incredibly painful to go through at first.

It was atmospheric & creepy, especially towards the end because of, uh, stuff that happens...well, I can't say what because of the spoilers, but I'm sure you know what I mean about the atmospheric & creepy part. Various things (that I can't mention) were all integrated quite nicely.

That being said, since i'm now slightly freaked out by certain, uh, creatures, and being stuck underground for so long down there, maybe you can do something like that aboveground, heh. :P Also, for some reason, I really kind of want to visit Weisshaput Fortress. Grr, edited it because of the lack of proper spacing. Hmph, it seems so random with the blank lines between paragraphs (which is something that drives me insane as a book designer).

Actually, now that I think about it: more excellent voice-acting too, which kind of ties in to that "more Alistair" request. *cough cough cough*

Modding defeats vanity "l00t" DLC every single time. It has to be something complex enough that the modding community can't very well make it. Or require resources they aren't likely to have.

I would second calls for a continuation DLC - something to chart how my character refuses to simply let Morrigan go and chooses to throw his considerable arcane might behind a search for the most important person to him in his life. Full of epic adventure, Fade-walking, impossible choices, lore of god-children, discoveries of magic, and lots of zombies. :P

Failing that, another cheaply priced story-based monty haul DLC would do me just fine. Maybe something inspired by Lovecraftian storys, like that dodgy sidequest in TESIV: Oblivion

1 Female Warrior - Neutral aligned (make 2 with one being good one being evil if neutral is not possible) [maybe a dwarf?]
1 Female Rogue - same as female warrior conditions
1 Female Mage - same as female warrior [maybe make it a dalish elf from the tribe you encounter]
1 Male Mage - since it's silly to have all joinable mages be female

If these characters would cost $5 each, I'd definitely buy the females (way too few females that can join the group compared to guys), and maybe the guy if he is funny enough.  I suppose you could make one of the females a romance option along with the male mage to add some more options.

The male mage and the female warrior, yes I would love that.  The other two...meh rogue can be either gender and we already got two female mages no need for a third.  That's what I feel anyway.

I added female rogue(s) and mage(s) due to there being almost zero choice in what we have to use.  There is like 6 different warriors to utilize, while only 2 each of mage/rogue.  Just trying to get some balance and allow for more diversity in multiple playthroughs.

I have a few thoughts about DLC, but beware, this will be a walloftext.

First off, like anyone, I would prefer not to pay for new content. I realize this mentality is just not going to work any more, so I have accepted that most things will come with a charge. I purchased Warden's Keep when I got the game at launch and thought it was pretty good. I don't think it was seven dollars good, but five would have been about right. I do not regret buying it though. If this new content coming out is at least on par with Warden's Keep, I think five dollars is a fair price. Map packs for many FPS games tend to be three to four maps for ten dollars, and that is a far greater rip off than anything Bioware has and probably ever will do. All that having been said, there are some things I have concerns about.

By the time a new DLC comes out in a month or so, I may be finished and/or tired of the game. I do not know if a short 45 minute mission could bring me back. The one that follows a month or two later that is the same length probably will not draw me back. This is why I prefer full expansions. Warden's Keep came out at the right time because I could use the items you aquire during the current playthrough. However, I would have been disappointed to play Warden's Keep from an epilogue save only to be able to stand around camp wearing new armor. If the only lasting use of new DLC is to stand around camp with new equipment waiting for the next DLC to replace it, then that isn't very appealing.

One idea I came up with that I think would help is to have a trophy room of some sort. Maybe have armor and weapon stands that you can place equipment or trophies and the like on so you have a reason to collect things in the world. I really hate that there is already so much equipment that is good for nothing but vendoring because you already have found better stuff. Why collect the Dilligence set when you can have a full Juggernaut set much more easily and is (arguably) superior. DLC added items will only make this problem worse. Having a show room of sorts would make finding some of the more rare sets and weapons have some sort of meaning, and would be something I would pay for.

I have one final idea. You should make the pre-order bonus items downloadable. Maybe charge one dollar or something or nothing at all. Other than a small profit or goodwill, it will stick it to those Ebay scalpers out there. That alone should be justification.

If anyone read through that, then thank you. I sometimes start and have trouble stopping. I just wanted a dev to maybe see my personal opinion on DLC and ideas on how it could improve.

Too many of the ideas in this thread at expansion-level. Something on the scale of Durlag's Tower/Watcher's Keep would be good for DLC, a dungeon you can visit in parallel to the current game. That's all DLC should be at this point, I think. Something in parallel to the current story, that improves characters and increases challenges. Maybe an extra party member, or specialisations thrown in. Basically more content that makes you want to restart the game again and play with some new toys, rather than expansion-level content which continues the current story.

The problem with that, however, is that more/new loot is more power, more gold etc. which leads to the current challenges being easier (e.g. Sarevok was a cakewalk once you had TotSC installed and smashed your way through Durlag's and the island), so it would be nice to see some improvements to the current game in terms of challenges as well.

I would like to see a good 5-10 hours (or more) dungeon post game for 10-20 dollars, something challenging to tackle with your team of high level characters. The deep roads comes to mind as a possible location, it's such an awesome place that could be expanded tenfold.

Other than that, maybe side campaigns around 10-20 hours long complete with origins. Something told from a different point of view, playing as a soldier during Ostagar for example.

In other words, no more 30 min - 2 hours DLC packed with ''unique items'' and more real content. Anyone can create items in the toolset but it's harder to make good quality dungeons, complete with voice acting and good writing. I don't mind paying more as long its done well, 5-20 hours for 10-20 bucks is a pretty good middle ground to me.

Even if i never played GTA4, Rockstar way of handling DLC is spot on from what i saw.

I would just like to chime in with my agreement of the Original posters feelings. I would like to think people from that background compose a respectable chunk of the target market for a product like this. However I believe we are shrinking as not may younger role playing gamers seem to be coming in to replace us as we get old and go away.

Vanity items are Not interesting to me at all either.

Larger content packs over the small ones.

Keep things tough. do not inflate economy

Continuation of the story is must but we all know that we will be lucky to see that by next winter. We know its huge deal.

I relay love starting games from scratch with a new feel to the character. Don't forget the whole Origins idea here please. It is what you named this game for after all.

As someone else said, I'd buy all of them anyway. This is the best game I've played in years, and I wonder how much longer the industry will support a game of this magnitude. To me, buying DLC is a way to show my support and help keep the development going to ensure there's either an expansion or a full-blown sequel.

To me, an ideal DLC would be 3-4 hours in length (by way of comparison, I finished Mage's Tower in about 6 hours), expand on the existing story, and - duh - be something better than we'd expect from the modding community.

Warden's Keep was fun, but short. I really enjoyed Stone Prisoner but my initial thought was that it was pretty pricey at $15. However once I saw Georg's post about the costs involved (especially all the VO work) it made more sense.

Story, story, story.

Couldn't care less about new items, the game has way too much loot anyway.

For me to pay for DLC:

Must haves:

  • Must be related to the main storyline in some fashion, or to the characters already in the game
  • Must have quality cutscenes and original voice acting
  • Must have a bare minimum of 5 hours of play time.  10+ is better.
I would prefer it to be after the main quest.  I don't like the idea of downloading a new area that I can access while in the middle of the current game.  I want to finish the game, and then have some type of epilogue or followup.

I could not care less about fancy new items.  In fact I'm sick of lugging around blood dragon armor that my warrior isn't strong enough to use yet.

Basically I'm only really interested in a mini expansion pack, or wth, how about a real expansion pack?

My number one want:
Having characters you've created in subsequent playthroughs or just as alts become actual playable characters you can use in your other playthroughs.
Basically, you have your dwarf warrior main, but you've made a human ranger as an alt.  Import the alt as just a character who shows up in your camp, doesn't really need interaction lines, just basic greetings and head nods, but you can take them with you into battle.

Beyond this, the only things I really am looking forward to are new companions, of course romanceable companions as well, with their own unique questlines and interactions.  In line with this; why aren't Oghren, Wynne and Sten romanceable?  Let's let folks have the full gamut of choices here.

Echo.  Well stated.

I'm a happy DLC customer thus far and like the trend for the most part.

In terms of things I would like to see taken away - that freak in my camp.  I don't want to be "sold" the DLC.  I prefer it to be presented and then I make a choice.  Maybe it could be part of a special area on the map (DLC-land) or some such thing.  Or maybe a "Tavern of many quests" where all the DLC salespeople hang out and offer me the "opportunity" to save their "family" and such.

Over-all - it's been fun to play the DLC.

I would love a DLC where I can kill endless fields of darkspawn after the storyline... set it however you like, have the party members available to you dependent on your ending, and if some chose to leave you at the end for any reason good or bad, they can be gone too, maybe you only have yourself available, thats fine. I just want to keep playing in the context of my character, any additional story elements would be awesome but just to continue effing things up would be nice... mainly because I got halfway through my third play through and I am tired of the story but still addicted to the game.

Feed my addiction please

A DLC with say sets of armor for each class but spread through out a large dungeon, Or DLCs for one class in particular.

With the reward being more skills or abillities.

I want a true expansion to Dragon Age and not these silly little single dungeon DLC we've been given thus far. DLC would be worth buying if it adds as much to the game as any of Bioware's previous expansions have added to their respective series.

Ok, good thread.

Kinds of DLC I would definitely buy

20-25 hour long expansions similar to NWN2 expansions, with a new storyline, new areas, new companions and a new adventure. I would expect the quality of the game and dialogue to be on par with the original. Adding a few unique monster types would be great if it is appropriate. Let us explore another part of the world with a new character, the story may or may not be liked to the Blight, depending on when it is set. This may take a year or two to make, and I would be prepared to lay down 30-40 bucks for it retail (I am in Australia where new games cost from 100-120 dollars).

Kinds of DLC I definitely would not buy

1-3 hour long add-ons to the main game which charge 5-7 dollars per hour of content. DLCs which add powerful items, companions or talents as an incentive without adding a new adventure arc.
