I want a full expansion pack that takes place after the storyline. Other than that maybe some dlc party members like Shale would be nice. Although I would like to see other large towns we never saw like Amaranthine, Gwaren, and West Hill. Just NO super item dlc please.

Hmmm.....I had started posting this in the previous thread, went to dinner, and came back to find the thread locked.  Anyway, the subject WAS discussing views on DLC, and here was my thoughts (sorry to bring it back up, but this is a public forum for discussion and I wanted to voice my opinion on the previous topic that was linked to here).  My post was:

DLC is the single player game developer's response to MMO
profitability.  MMO's make a RIDICULOUS amount of money more than
single player games.  MMO's have a continual stream of money being
made, and until DLC, single player games have a 1 time profit (with the
exception of expansions, but MMO's have those too, so its irrelevant in
this example).

Lets take for example two examples at the peek of the genres right now:

WoW
- top MMO of all time, with claims of 10-11 million active
subscribers.  That means about $20-$50 for the initial investment
(multiplied by 10-11 million), and a monthly subscription of $15
(multiplied by 10-11 million) 11-12 times a year (depending on whether
you got a free month subscription from game purchase).  This is a very
successful example of an MMO, and in all, you are looking at around
$1,500,000,000 profit each year for 1 game.

DA:O - granted, its
a new game, but so far has been said to be very successful.  Lets say 1
million people bought the game (not sure on exact number, but a rough
estimate).  At $50-60 a pop, thats $50-60 million in that year, or in
otherwords.....WAY less income than an MMO.
Even less popular MMO's with between 500,000 and 1,000,000 active
subscribers make way more money than a very popular single player game.

-------

Now
lets look at it from the 'company' side of things.  EA/Bioware is
coming out with a single player game, but they want in on some of this
MMO profitability....but they can't rake in the monthly subscriptions
unless its an MMO.  Their current answer to this:  Come out with small
downloadable updates (much like you'd expect from an MMO) that the
playerbase has to pay for every few weeks or month.

All of a
sudden the single player game is bringing in a more regular cashflow
past initial release like an MMO would do.  The BIG difference however:  If you want to play the MMO you HAVE to pay a monthly fee.  With the DLC you have the option of getting new content.

-------

My
views on it now - I wish they would keep the single player formula the
ways its always been....initial release plus a large expansion if they
have new content.  With this DLC formula you just don't get the same
bang for your buck that you would with a full scale expansion.

Now,
you could argue that they are putting out an expansion at the same time
as working on DLC so why should I care.....but also consider this:  if
they weren't working on DLC they could put the mentioned full expansion
out even sooner and be working on another full-expansion with all the
extra man-power that would otherwise be committed to DLC.

Download
it if you like, don't download it if you don't like it.  Fact remains
though that you just don't get the same bang for your buck  that you
would if you were paying for a full-scale expansion.

As for my response to what type of DLC do I want.....I don't want any, I want all resources dedicated to DLC to be working on a full fledged expansion.  As mentioned previously in my post....if people are already working on an expansion, put more manpower to it to finish it sooner, or put the DLC team on ANOTHER full-expansion.

i am very strictly going to compare the content level vs price to that of the game itself, or to the ratios id expect in an expansion pack. if i am not satisfied by the comparison i will not buy it no matter what's in it. even if i am satisfied, i may not buy it until they have a compilation pack out that is available in retail stores.

Ugh, this isn't a thread to whine about DLC. This is a thread to let Bioware know what kind of things you want to see in DLC.

i didnt complain about a [cursed] thing. i explained what i would and wouldnt consider paying for. how about not introducing flames to a thread that has thus far  been reasonable and civil, immature jack [donkey].

<_<

If you think that is a flame, boy do you have thin skin! And calling me immature isn't a flame? Immature why? Because I said not to whine in this thread, because this thread isn't for whining. We have enough of those.

I do wonder how much I am actually in the minority that I love DLC. I love getting any new stuff for video games I adore, and while I don't enjoy DLC items that 'break the mold' of other game items in terms of power I am overjoyed at the oppurtunity to purchase nearly anything else. It does need to match the rest of the game in overall production value though, in particular voice over work needs to be consistent. I'll live if it's not but it will break my RPG heart just a little.

Ideally I think there is still a bit of expansion in the pre-final battle world, I like the idea of returning to Ostagar, re-activating an ancient Golem was awesome as well as exploring his past. Wardens Keep fell a little short chiefly becuase I expected it to become more of a hub, a tower to store equipment that the party could also settle into (in a similar way to the Arl's Denerim quarter), as it turns out we just sit out on the porch. Nonetheless it was an entertaining'ish quest and I certainly feel it was worth the money.

In terms of Pre-final battle content, I would indeed like to see some of the other places perhaps somewhere on the borders of Orlais, which some national tensions. I would like to see some other threat foreshadowed as well, I don't suppose I'd want to wait until a new blight for a sequel, and I'd hate to see a new blight popping up prematurely.

Ideally, I'd like to a large scale dungeon crawl working my way through lost sections of the deep roads, though I think this should take place after the "Final battle", which historically and contextually makes sense. It would provide a certain amount of character resolution. Though I would like it to be prefaced with some light exploring, "talkey" content based on your origin (back at the tower, the Alienage, Orzammer or Highever). Not asking much eh?

Other post final battle content I'd love to see, would be helping to restore some of the places that were decimated in the darkspawn re-build and perhaps an overland hunt/detective like quest hunting down the last few powerful emisarries on the surface.

Ahhh to dream to dream.

I guess what really upset me about DAO was the DLC being released as the game was released and that the extra content was sooo small is size I believe it was like 300mb for $15.00. It was insulting too me as a customer that on the same day I had too dish out more money too buy what I felt that should have been apart of the orignal game extra content which didn't feel right.

If the extra content was 800mb then I was have gladly paod for the extra content. At the same time I perfer box expansions. Why because who is too say that a gaming company mail close up and you won't be able too get the extra DLC in five years time...god forbid it should happen too Bioware.

But this is how I feel too others it maybe not what they want too hear.

circus arc. It would be a special zone that takes place in/outside denerim and feature a couple minigames(something i felt DA lacked...no fishing game?) and a sinister plot to kidnap party members and it would have an escape sequence and such. Oh and another brothel.

Expanded origin stories. I'm not going to spoil anything but some origin stories seem a lot longer than others and have a lot more content than others. I would like to see origin stories expanded to a degree...maybe an extra quest or two that could develop the PC storyline.

If there is any DLC that i would love too see i think it would be a massive Dungeon akin to Watcher's Keep or Durlags Tower. And similar to these in that there should be loads of puzzles (like the bridge puzzle) not just combat.

Now that is an excellent idea and the two best examples for it. Why not have Obsidian Entertainment deal with the DLC's for DAO. They obviously know what they are doing being mostly ex-Black Isle employees. There is no other RPG game that comes close to perfection as the BG saga one word: EPIC. The only close thing that comes to mind would be Mass Effect. But yeah the question at hand, definitly a good dungeon DLC would be nice something that gives you at least a couple of hours to spend fighting mobs (hopefully some new ones for the DLC). And also someone mentioned multiplayer mods. EXCELLENT it would be cool to test out your character builds agains other players online. Maybe even make guilds of adventurers and fight team battles like capture the flag and stuff like that. Of course they would have to add some achievments and special gear when you fulfill certain requirements or smthing like that. Just so much potential in this game that I'd hate to see go to waste. And maybe even going a little over the top a huge melee map where tons of people jsut dish it out.

I agree with you some origins just flew by me while other were so awesome that i thought i had been there the whole time lawl. But the idea of character arc DLC is really entertaining, Leliana - Orlais, Shale/Wynne - Tevinter , Zevran - Antiva, Sten -  ... Qunaristan? Image IPB.All those places with different cultures and environment. Plus not to mention that Mod makers would love to work with their new terrain and I completly support their artistic goals. Image IPB

My problems with the DLC out right now: To expensive for the content if you simply follow the math for the content in game right now you would say allmost 1$ for each hour.

WK :

*To short

*To small area / locked places

*Items are way to overpowered

Suggestions for WK:

*Allow one to own the land around it so you can rebuild the castle with vendors / churchs and train soldiers for one more army at the end.

*Larger areas open inside the keep

*Storage / taxes and so on...

SP

Overall quiet fun but could still be abit better for the money (else i would say drop the price down to 7-10$.

Other content:

*They need to have more content / 1$

*Not way to overpowered items but still ok / decent.

*For companions: Another 2-3 quests related to 1 NPC to unluck special things for them.

*Things that add more to the story... For example a "quest pack" Adding 15 new quests to the game.

In strong agreement with the OP, a higher priced DL that acts as a true expansion, one that includes more quest(s) of considerable content/length, that includes new items & a new class is a far more attractive proposition than getting ganked on points for lots of bits & bobs, which are just a pita. I fell into the fallout3 trap & bought all the 5 expansions & came away feeling like I'd shared a cell with a giant called Bubba.

I consider games good value if I get an hour of quality playtime for every $ I spend on it, and acceptable if it's a half hour/$.

You can see how DLC and I don't get along usually.

A fair product for a fair price. Something similar to what Bethesda did with Broken Steel and Point Lookout. In other words, something that costs about $10 and offers around 10 hours of gameplay.

The idea of adding the Monk is cool, especially since the lore already directly supports this. Someone mentioned a Dalish Mage I would go farther and suggest a Wild Mage period, a mage that comes up without the circle.

I would like to see DLC that would add new origin stories. New quests are something I'd like as well, if they're sufficiently long and rewarding. I would not pay for dog/horse armor or any cosmetic addons.

the idea would be to have dlc that includes many things for everyone. If people do not want to buy strictly items, then they would need to put item or package them into a quest or something.

Try to avoid the sims gimmick where they sell from a to z in their online store.

that is what i see from what i read people want "it all" in future dlcs' ..gonna be hard to figure out.

$1/hour of game play. An expansion should be $30/30 hours, DLC should be $5/5hours. Its a simple ratio but I think it works well.

WK would have been fine if the keep had been opened up after you beat it and it functioned similarly to the camp site, perhaps allowing you to both add party members AND visit with all of them. But as it stands it was falsely advertised in my book, I expected a base of operations for the Grey Wardens, not a party chest and a vendor and a 1 hour monty haul quest.

For future content, I want Dragon's Peak with another dragon, maybe a quest to go up through a dungeon mountain and then a battle at the top.

A sea/port city adventure, with pirates and the ocean. I don't think you can see the ocean from any point in the game.

A quest with two factions, so you can play it once and choose one side and have an adventure go one way, and play it again choosing the other side. Current movies aside, vampires/werewolves would work in a pinch; or blood mage/templars; golems/dwarves; dalish/humans; etc. Just to give the quest a replay ability. Also make the rewards different but both good so its tough to decide which side to take (as well as make both sides sympathetic).

I am interested in any content that involves interesting characters and story/plot development. This can be directly in line with the main campaign or completely tangential.

I would love to see a 5+ hour mod set in Orlais or another region (the Anderfels!). This would be a great way for BioWare to expand upon the world in advance of DAO 2 or even a full blown expansion.

The more lore, the better. I'd like a good mix of story, characters, and combat.

I am not interested in what the OP described as vanity mods or mods that are just packaging for new weapons/armor.

i think that the problem with dlc's might be the voice acting...if they were to use the current caracters, some of the original voice actors might not want to come back, which limits waht you could do for a DLC...
