And the game is pretty long, longer than Origins. I preferably liked that about the game cause I'm a sucker for good characters, good romances, and long game that have those things.
It is not entirely all different from DA:O though. Just faster combat and stuffz.
I assume you're talking about the in-game length of the story? Because otherwise, DA2 was a great deal shorter than Origins. In total time, Origins probably took me about a weeks' worth of days to finish, (total time, based on playing the game for quite a few hours per day on any day I didn't have other obligations), and DA2 took me all of two days.

Yep. I should have worded that better. I found that part longer than Origins.Silfren wrote...

On principle alone, I cannot recommend DA2 to anyone. My own dislike aside, and despite the alarming evidence that some people actually do manage to like it, the fact of the matter is the game shows a lack of effort and a rush job all over the place. The people responsible need to know (and never forget) they made a mistake. One of the best ways to ensure that is through the numbers. To recommend this game to anyone (even if they might like it) and have them spend money on it would only encourage the company to do it again.

If asked I would probably say "Avoid.". Even if I loved it, everyone else hating it would be enough to add a bit of caution.
If asked to expand on my opinion, it would be briefly thus:
- If you enjoyed the previous tactical party-based RPGs, this is nothing like those and might come as a colossal disappointment. Gameplay is now effectively the same as Mass Effect's, with more melee animations.
- OTS (third person) is effectively compulsory in combat, which you might not expect when shelling out for a franchise that's been called "the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate".
- The story is now cinematic, unfinished and largely makes the player feel irrelevant.

AND play on console anyway (so the console style doesn't matter to you)
AND you can get it for about $15, (which is possible by now)
Sure, why not.
It provides a few dozen hours of entertainment, goes BOOM a lot, and has decent characters, facial animations and voice acting. Ther were two jaw-dropping scenes, the second Flemeth appearance and the Chantry blowup.
Nothing spectacular, but if you don't know DA:O, you don't need to expect too much. I'd say it's worth the $15 I mentioned.
Of course, I had played DA:O before, I played on a PC, and I bought it for $30.
I didn't hate it as much as I was sad and just felt bad about the missed opportunity to create a great sequel, because the premise (an individual's rise and fall against the background of brewing civil war, told in episods over ten years) just looked daring to me. I thought "If anyone could pull this off..."). Sadly, I was disappointed. I was already wary because of the negative buzz, however, so it wasn't as abysmal as I had feared. Having bought it because I loved DA:O, however, it made me really sad.
I also feel sorry for Hawke, who will end his career as "the guy from DA2"...
As a standalone game, it's OK (for $15).
As a DA game, it was an almost complete failure, apart from some sparse (aforementioned) highlights. What went through their mind when they decided that DA:O's success was a reason to change/dub down/uglify EVERYTHING is beyond my comprehension.

It doesn't show you many of the other problems with the game: recycled environments, extremely restrictive ability to interact with companions (most of which are annoying and sub-par compared with DAO IMO), endless repetition of the one theme in the game (mages vs templars ad infinitum), inability to equip your companions with armor etc, a weak story, and many other issues besides.
If you like the demo then buy the game. $15 - $20 sounds like a fair price.
However, I will not offer my personal recommendation to the game. IMO it was a mediocre product that places more importance on 'style' than aesthetics, gameplay, immersion, or player agency. YMMV

He was answering a question, not making a point.
Besides, if someone told me they loved DAO and was asking for a game to play, I'd suggest the Witcher 2 or Skyrim. If someone told me they loved FF13, I'd suggest DA2.
It doesn't mean they'd like either of my suggestions... but its what I would suggest, nonetheless.

That would certainly be a wholly and undeservedly polite way of describing the transition from DA:O to DA2.

How can you answer a question without making a point?
'Which do you prefer? Cake or pie?'
'Yes'
Ok, different question. How can your answer be constructive without making a point?
If he had kept to 'No' or 'Yes', then he would be making a point that he, for whatever reason, do not believe Dragon Age II worthy of recommendation. He chose to elaborate further by saying that 'Yes' but as a 'hack 'n slash anime'.
Nothing wrong with a second poster calling him out on that logic, which both me and said poster disagree with (though, I suppose, for different reasons).
