OP here again, ignore my different username. To clarify what I meant by my original post, I don't expect all the aliens in the game to look like humans, I just think it's a double standard that the prominent female aliens in this game are highly fetishist, but there are no sexy male equivalents of them. Females of the less physically attractive species (Turians, Krogan, Salarians...) are hardly/never seen for that matter. It's sexist but it exists in every media, men can be ugly as sin but female characters are always supermodels, just in sci-fi they have blue skin. I know game designers are predominantly male and were too busy ****** to the asaris to even consider designing a male form for them ("monogendered" female aliens who can mate with any species sounds the set up for a low budget porno). What I'm saying is it would be nice for a game that has the ability to play as a female, and includes romance as a notable subplot, to include more alien love interests for a female Shepard, other than a scaly man-fish.

It seems Bioware operates under the impression that MaleSheps like teh boobies while FemSheps like a) good looking, baggage-free humans or B) baggage-laden aliens. It would be nice for Bioware to include a boob-free FemTurian LI for Sheploo, but would she be popular?

BTW on Wait Wait  Don't Tell Me last week I learned there is a brothel in Nevada where the hookers dress up as popular aliens from Star Trek, etc. Maybe there are "Asari" there.

Hn, that's more of a Shepard-being-a-brick failing than anything else, or rather, the one-sidedness of the romances. All the LI's do is give, talk about themselves, their feelings, their pasts. They show themselves to Shepard when they're wrecked emotionally, at their lowest point psychologically, but save for maybe that one conversation with Jacob, no other LI gets to hear Shepard give a bit of themself.

Well, we get that one moment at the end of Lair of the Shadow Broker, but that needs to happen a lot more. Like in ME1, where Ashley or Kaidan would bring up Shepard's background and Shepard got a chance to respond as to how they dealt with things. THAT's roleplaying, THAT's what Dragon Age Origins and ME1 did so well.

Picking flat, emotionless dialogue options from an animated head and substituting oneself in, isn't roleplaying. I really hope the promise of "adding to Shepard as a character" really comes through in ME3.

I support this. You also get a chance to open up to Chakwas if you talk to her after she sobers up from the Serrice Ice Brandy, but doing so with the LI would be great.

You have a point imo. FShep romances suck in comparison to MShep romances.

Since only 18% of players play FShep, maybe they only put in 18% of the effort.

I AM THE 18%! :P

I don't know about all of them, but I know that there's at least one LI that Shepard can get drunk with. It was one of my favourite scenes in the leak.

This is what I <personally> think in terms of the alien romances:

I believe that the body and the soul are separate entities and believe that it is not absurd to think that the soul lives vicariously through the body. In that sense, a "human" is that in which the soul, anatomy, and physiology creates.

If my soul was to detach from the body then I am no longer human. I become what my soul attaches itself to.
If I think this way, then I am not just a human. I am not a permanent. In that case, it leaves the possibility to think and explore from all sorts of different directions.

When I first met Garrus I thought, "Wow, he is really cool." As I got to know him, learn about their culture, listen to other Turian voices, I acclimated to them. I no longer thought that Garrus was just cool. If the soul is that which stores the personality and the thoughts of that person, then I can say I became attracted to Garrus's soul.

Of course, it takes more than just "soul attraction" to make it work ;).
For me, it was my free thoughts of the body which made me able to accept Garrus. Prior to meeting Garrus I have never taken it upon me to think of romance with aliens because I never played a game which brought up the possibility until that point. I struggled with my attraction to his appearance.

As I continued to think about it more, it just made sense to me. We are not humans, and yet we are; however, we should not limit ourselves to only our kind. I'm not suggesting that we go make out with dogs and have sexual intercourse with monkeys because at the end of the day we still have preference. If the soul carries the personality it also carries our likes and dislikes.

Unfortunately, at this point, my opinion becomes a double edged sword. It means it is viable to think aliens are unattractive, but it does not disclude the possibility that we can like them as well.

In closing, I would like to quote Descartes from his "Discourse on Method":
"Hence too it will show that the diversity of our opinions does not proceed from some men being more rational than others, but solely from the fact that our thoughts pass through diverse channels and the same objects are not considered by all."

We are all different. Let's hug :').

Does anything think Female Shepard gets the short end of the stick when it comes to romances? I chose Kaidan in the original ME and I think I'll stay faithful to him for ME3, but they make the choice too easy because I don't want my Shepard to be a lesbian (but it's ok if you do ) and all the male aliens are butt ugly (sorry Garrus). It's not fair that manShep practically has a sexy interspecies harem with the Asaris and the Quarians (even though I can't see Tali's face I assume she's hot) as well as Miranda and the ME3 version of Ashley (damn). I wish they'd give us more attractive male aliens or at least more interesting human men to get with (Jacob is boring to me). What are your opinions on this and who did you choose your femShep to romance?

the volus don't do it for you then lol

Femshep gets the short end of the stick b/c the male LIs are boring/submissive/unappealing.

Not unattractive, but Turians in general aren't attractive, Drell are OK I guess and there are no other aliens available to femSheps except Asari who are more female than male.

Maybe a Quarian?

I mean, if you want to look at it THIS way, the only attractive alien for Male Shepards are Asari, so it's not like it's ridiculously unbalanced.
