You're an idiot. I was comparing what we've seen from ME3 so far. In comparison to Gears of war 3. ?I dont understand why you kept mentioning ME2.

I accidentally mentioned ME2 because everyone who was arguing against Gears kept bringing it up, so the fact you said "ME3" didn't register. And the things I argued against are still perfectly valid, from what we've seen so far, as an example GoW3 still has more enemy variety than ME3 despite the fact Bioware have ripped a few (more) things off Gears.

And calling me an idiot when some of the things you listed were blatant lies (Gears doesn't have conversations with team mates? really?), well.

You also mentioned Gears 1. You failed to realize most of what in mentioned was from the RPG aspect. Gears doesnt really have any RPG aspects

Wait, you're arguing that Gears doesn't have RPG aspects? Really? A shooter doesn't have RPG aspects? Well it must clearly be an inferior game since we're holding it to a nice fair standard here.

Really? A hat does not match up to armor pieces and helmets.

It's still customisation, so yes Gears does have customisation, i.e. you saying it didn't is actually wrong.

The only thing thats up for debate is the enemy variety.

Not really. Gears has an absolute f*ckton of different enemies. From what we've seen, ME3 has more than ME2 but doesn't really seem to reach Gears' level.

I dont recall gears traveling to multiple planets either

multiple planets =/= variety in environments.

I believe ME1 is a testament to that. Gears still has variety of environments.

Can you control when you want your squad mates to use certain powers? No you cannot.. Derp..

Maybe that's because they don't have powers? DURRRRRRRRRR

And why post this same message on my wall just to put me on your block list? Don't most people make comments on peoples' walls expecting a reply of some sort?

Indeed Gears of War has been a great influence for the combat system. Just as Kill.Switch was for Gears of War (they recruited the same guy who designed that game to GoW). I for one like coverbased shooters.

LOL This thread is absolutely ****ing serious about ME not being a third person shooter. Don't know which is worse; dumb people who sound smart or smart people who sound dumb.

He makes it sound like being influenced by other successful games is a bad thing.

Mass Effect is great for what it is. An Action RPG.

Gears of War is great for what it is. A third person shooter.

The only similarity between the two is the sci fi aspect.

LOL are you serious?

Both take place in the future, it's a loose definition. Image IPB

FALSE. Gears of war does not take place on earth or even in our solur system. The planet name is Sera and does not even have the geopgraphy of earth. Most of it is land and that is why the Navy is so ****ty. Gears has a sci fi aspect to it but not space travel wise. The only real thing in gears that is kinda spacey sci fi is the Hammer of dawn. Everything else is very modern.

There are somethings Gear's does better than ME and there are some things ME does better than Gear's, though one thing everyone can agree on is that most enemies in ME2 were just copy/paste merc's with different coloured the Shadow broker merc's is a prime example of a reskined eclipse

If by good influence you mean template to be copied completely then I agree. The only thing we're missing at this point are omni chainsaws and for shepard to have a slightly deeper voice and it'll be a perfect match.

I honestly don't know anymore. I thought it started out pretty well but somehow I just didn't like what it turned out to be. Not to mention it has some really stupid glitches that render it literally unplayable.

I've been debating getting GOW3 to finish the story, but I'm holding off on it for a while. Just not fussed about it at all.

The game does it for you, it's scripted and you have no choice whatsoever (except split into two teams)

it was far too obvious whenever there was encounters (when comparing the two, Gears' maps actually hide it so much better, and it's a freaking shooter) and the melee sucked.

I also have no idea what RPG elements ME2 stripped out of ME1 at all.

I found an article where BioWare was criticizing Gears of War for making the battlefields too obvious. I find that very funny...and ironic.

Indeed, and to be fair GOW has gotten much better at making those obvious battlefields at least look like they belong there.

Previews for ME3 sound promising about this aspect though, only release will tell though.

Other than rolling my eyes at how hammy the story gets at times I found GOW3 to be the most polished TPS I have ever played. Don't expect much "new" from the game itself other than some weapons and enemies (I love that bayonet) but I did not encounter a single bug in the campaign, and I actually found myself applauding various idea's put in the story if not the execution.

In a sentence I would describe GOW improving the opposite of ME. Baby steps in regard to story, but a polished and refined gameplay. Had a blast with it.

Comparing Gears of War to Mass Effect again?
That's comparing two whole different games.
The only thing comparable is the survival modes and that's it.

If Mass Effect and Gears of War are the same, then I guess Army of Two is definitely the same as both of those.
Then that means all of those games copied Brute Force (2003 third person shooter)!

Then that means all of those games copied watching your friend play Duck Hunt because you used to watch him play over his shoulder!!!

seriously people. You can always find similarities between things if you look hard enough.
Fps were influenced and built on from doom and wolfenstein and all that.
Tps need to be influenced and built on by something too.
It's not like you can suddenly create something new and original.

Thanks for the reassurance. I actually liked the first game but hated the sequel for various reasons. I'll probably get to GOW3 at some point, but right now it'll have to wait.

Hey that's cool, at the end of the day people have preferences on games. Nothing wrong with, it's just annoying when people just want to slander the hell out of a game just because they dislike it (which you didn't do, that's all a lot of post on this board do however)

I would recommend renting it sometime, or waiting until the price goes down significantly if you don't have any investment in multiplayer. (Which I don't.)

The campaign is longer than the other games, and as hammy as it gets it is improved in that regard as well (you even go through some GOW history by visiting cities first hit early in the war) , but its still a short game without much meat if you don't do multiplayer, which I hear is a blast but I have never played.

I'm getting a "the game handles conversations for you therefore they're not conversations" vibe here.

Sorry, but they're still there.

Exactly. I started playing through Overlord for the first time a few days ago and almost every one of my guesses about where a fight was going to happen was correct.
