As long as it doesn't use GOW's story as inspiration, I'm good.

What? GOW's story was awesome.

I'll be honest, I never played it. However, what I heard from it, the story was terrible. The characters more so.

The story was pretty much two failed DEMs and then a third successful one.

I personally enjoyed the characters, the only I dislike being Jace because of what he does in the RAAM's Shadow DLC.

The reason the third was a success or more so of one than the first two is mainly because they brought on Karen Traviss who wrote the novels and not the ****ty writer from before. I wish they hired her from the beginning. The book really are what got me into the univerese and invested in the characters TBH. Anyway I'm sorry for going off-topic A lot. I really like gears and loe telling people about the universe :P

Bring back weapons training.

This is the one I STRONGLY disagree with....It works for combat where the game automatically attacks/targets enemies but in both Fallout and in ME1, I found it downright annoying/weird that I have to manually target (twitch gaming) AND yet if I hit is determined BECAUSE of a random roll of the computer deities (stat tracking gaming)?

Just No.

Either one works and I can enjoy either, but both at the same time?

Just no.

I see a lot of dissing of the story and characters of the Gears games and truth be told, that´s uncalled for.

They match the tone of the game and aren´t devoided of of value. Thing is, just like with Halo, it´s the books/comic books that provide the best depiction.

As to a previous discussion, the AI of most enemies in Gears shouldn´t be feral since they aren´t all animalistic creatures.

Only the appropriately named Savage Locust, not the loyalists. And even then it's explained why, even if the reason given is kind of stupid.

nah should have been influenced by Dead Space

this game would be fun with some zero-g combat or use of kinetic force that they could easily combine with biotics D: oh well ....

You're aware Dead Space came out AFTER Mass Effect, yeah?

Not just the palace guards, but yes, them.

I wouldn't say the savage locust have turned into "feral animals". The bulk of the surviving locust are simply trying to live off of whatever old gear they've recovered and rebuild. Hence there is a general lack of organization. They lost most of their stuff when the Hollow was flooded.

The Theron Guard, being the badasses of the Locust Horde, can get away with charging you with an oversized meat cleaver. A clever opponent makes up for a lack of superior firepower by getting within close range.

Like I said before, I haven´t bought Gears 3 yet.

That being said, the locust army is one well oiled machine in 1 and 2. Aside from the Reavers, Brumaks,Corpsers, Seeders,Bloodmounts and Tickers, every other member of their army is intelligent.

People make the assumption that most of them are beasts, but truth be told, they are closer to the Covenant from Halo in term of organization. Religious undertones and whatnot...

I think so.

Don't get me wrong, there are certain elements to the combat in ME1 that I really enjoy and that I miss in ME2 ( combat in ME1 is fast paced and feels more satisfying since it plays more like a FPS where as in ME2's it is more about patience since it places heavy emphasis on cover and ammo becomes a limited resource ). The thing is though the first time I ever heard about Mass Effect the game was advertised as being a bit like Gears of War but with Biotics and rpg elements, well ME1's combat has very little in common with the GOW games. Love it or hate it you can't deny that the combat is the highlight of the GOW games. I like the regenerating health system, the heavy emphasis on cover as bullets and missiles fly over my head, I like being able to aim my sniper rifle accurately at someone or something without having to max out my level, I like being able to dash from 1 side of a level to another a melleeing a badguy to death.

If Gears gameplay is average game then that would make Mass Effect 2 terrible, and I don't even know what that would make Skyrim. Is there a word for something worse than terrible?

I suppose that Gears might be average these days, but it is the year 2012, which makes Gears 6 years old now. No doubt it seemed like a better game back in 2006 when it raised the bar for other third person shooter developers, and been the other game that developers looked up to kind of makes it above average by default.

Gears of War is a solid Third Person Shooter (The best on the market, I dare say) so I don't see that as a bad thing. Mass Effect 2's combat is better than that of Mass Effect. From what I played at Eurogamer, Mass Effect 3's combat is better than that of Mass Effect 2. All is well.

The gameplay makes GoW amazing.

Gears of War has superb Third Person Shooter gameplay. It really blows every single other TPS game out of the way.

BioWare could learn A LOT from Gears in that department for Mass Effect. Luckily, BioWare paid attention to Gears, or so it seems. Mass Effect 3 seems to play more like Gears, so I guess Mass Effect 3 will have amazing gameplay too.

But really, the cover-system, the level-design, the environment-design and the cinematics in Gears of War are superb and really triple A quality. The game feels simply amazing to play. The characters in Gears are a little shallow, but so are the Mass Effect characters (well, not all of them, but most of them). Sure, Gears' story is not super great, but neither is the Mass Effect story (especially ME2's plot sucked donkey balls).

So yeah, Gears of War is great and far above average. The quality in that game is superb in almost every single department.

In my opinion, Bioware are some of the best writers in the industry, but some of the worst game designers in the industry. They weren't inspired by Gears, they flat out stole from Gears rather than refine their original design in ME1. Which, in my opinion, was a pretty good system with a unique take on bullet management with the overheating system. But no, they just said fudge it and ripped Gears to focus on story. Which is fine, but if you're going to steal a console game's gameplay, at least keep controller support in your PC versions.

Sorry but Karen Traviss writing a good book? I don't think so, I mean I suppose everything is possible, but still I doubt it.

I don't agree with the whole "Bioware stole their design from Gears of Wars" concept, but I do agree that Bioware had a very nice and unique gameplay design with ME1, with a definite unique take on bullet damage, accuracy, and overheating.

As I said before, "unique" doesn't automatically equal "better". Bioware's attempt to be "unique" with shooter mechanics in ME1 just resulted in a broken combat system that made players careless and not think tactically.

I don't see any problem with BioWare "stealing" the combat design from Gears. Other than that, the two games have nothing in common. Gears is a pure action game. It has a silly story, cartoonlike characters, and it focused utterly on gameplay. And it nails TPS combat perfectly. Gears 3 is the smoothest controlling and feeling action game I've ever played. It's actually made it hard to go back to ME2 (and impossible to go back to ME1) because the ME controls feel so clunky and unresponsive in comparison.

So yeah, I think Gears has been a great influence on ME. BioWare isn't trying to make "Gears in space". All they've done is copy an extremely successful combat formula and apply it to their action RPG. With ME1, they tried to create their own shooter-esque combat and frankly it failed pretty miserably. I'd rather they copy the action from Epic (who know how to make a compelling action game) and focus on their strengths: story, characters, writing, level design, music, etc.

Yes I suspected as much after all that seems to be the prevailing opinion, unfortunate really. I won't start a discussion about why you think it's broken or which combat system is better and so on, but I'll ask you this: Would you rather that Bioware would "fix" what you and others perceive as the non-functioning parts of ME1's system, or that they should scrap it all together and take something else, another present "functioning" combat system that isn't unique and has been used in several games before?

I have to laugh.

Gears of War has currently the best gameplay (in terms of combat etc) in ANY TPS shooter, with Uncharted right next to it.

So how in the WORLD does matching GoW become a bad thing?

Oh wait it's because of the brown terrain, the macho characters, and the fact it's a pure shooters.

LOL! I seriously love how fanboys love to act like certain popular games are bad simply because it's not a game they prefer to play.

Sad and pathetic.
