Maybe so, but they look female. Thus the 'supposed' problems with using  a female main-character, still applies.

Funny, because I didn't see any Liara hate. I did see hate for the premise, but that's simply because it's patently idiotic.

They -seem- to be female, they come with female attributes and it looks like as if they're doing it both ways. "Azure" anyone? So it's not just "mindsex", but they also can do it physically too.

Plus: Asari have female voices, seem to have female issues (like looks etc) ... I'd say they ARE female. They simply lack a male counterpart, so the word "female" doesn't mean anything to them (like "Patriarch"). They're Asari.

They're pretty much hermaphrodites; self fertilization & all that.

Dunno. Isn't it said an Asari need another one (either Asari or any other sapient species) to procreate? They can't self-fertilize afaik. They also don't change their sex at will /  by age.

The Melding process seems to trigger fertilization, but the Asari don't take anything from their partner; just a "map" of genes which are paired against her own DNA.  Or something like that.

As every Asari is capable of doing this - apart from those like Morinth - regardless of gender or species of the partner, they pretty much handle the entire fertilization process on their own inside them.  Hermaphroditic would be the closest thing to an appropriate category for them.

I see. However, they still need that "trigger" to become pregnant and it's also stated an Asari absorbs tiny bits of DNA in that mind-meld-process. So guess that "mind-meld" is required, they can't get pregnant without it.

Also it looks like as if they're able to do it the "human" way ("Azure") - however, they only get pregnant by "mindsex".

I don't recall that part; just the biotic reading & mapping.    Which is further confused by one Asari on Illium just claiming they don't need other species for diversity, they can just use radiation to map it.

Eh, not getting into that. :alien:

That would mean they would have a canon love interest for Shep, which is something they've always wanted to leave up to the players to decide. It would cheapen the experience for people who romanced other characters, because basically that would always be a "what-if" scenario.

Won't happen, because such an idea would mean that a Shepard-Liara romance would have to be canon.

I'm all for the Mass Effect universe living on beyond the Shepard Trilogy, but I don't think any future Mass Effect games should involve Shepard's descendants. If there is a Mass Effect IV it should have a new protagonist completely unrelated to Commander Shepard or his squad mates.

I'm not a pro Star wars fans, but I like the movies, but who's that Revan, I've seen this name being mentioned here before.

Short version: Main protagonist in KOTOR and the most powerful force user ever (after rebirth).

For long version: Play KOTOR, KOTOR 2, read the book 'Revan' and play Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Oh to answer the topic: Love everything Liara related but I'd prefer to keep kids out of the game altogether.

I approve of this and agree 120%. Revan ftw!!

Hold on a moment, Revan isn't the most powerful Force User ever; that title can go to a few people:

Potential: Vader (or his pre Vader form, rather; he's just a bit weaker than Sideous in practice)
Practice: Luke Skywalker (basically same potential as Vader, but wasn't hampered by what happened to him)

After Luke, you'll have some sort of Yoda/Sideous mix up, followed usually by a mix of EU characters; I'm sure Nihlius & Starkiller are up there along with (maybe) Jacen and Kyle, I'm a bit out of the loop atm.

Yeah but Revan is still the most popular in the gaming communty and has the most interesting backstory so every one just says he's the strongest for the most part. I happen to be one of them who thinks he's the stongest.:P

I mean come on. We played as Revan in 2003 so we'd just like to think we played as the most badass jedi ever.

Sarcasm, mate.

Asari are patently ridiculous as a race anyway, but I still say there had to be males at some point in their evolutionary history.

^ I concur. I would go that far and say Asari and Human have common genes. Asari look too human-like - maybe one of the ancient races dozens of cycles before the Protheans' extinction moved population of primitive but sentient lifeforms from one planet to another?

Since the Asari live on a planet with huge amounts of Eezo, they also could get moved to Thessia less than 100.000 years ago - think Eezo accelerates evolution. So they could be descendants of the human race. COULD be. And also Eezo could be a reason why the Asari are an one-gender race ...
No proof here, no hint in the codex for that theory.
