There was this poll some time ago from the show stopping act that is Angry Frozen Water

http://social.biowar...168/polls/2829/

What does this tell you about the gamers and the game itself?

Are gender preferences for Comander Shepard likely to change in Mass Effect 3?

Anyway, feel free to rant and rave, but please no sexist remarks. And no bad jokes about changing gender

It shows that you can't discount female gamers and those who play female Shepard.

Are gender preferences for Comander Shepard likely to change in Mass Effect 3?

I'm not sure why they would.

I was just curious.

The reasons that female shepard was preferred was because of the performance the voice actor Jennifer Hale gave.

If Mark Meers improved in the eyes of gamers, would the results change?

I think no one cares how Mark Meers sound except the hardcore ME fans. To me his fine and that's all I need from him. Jennifer Hale isn't perfect either and I am fine with that too.

Marginally, perhaps. Most people who already prefer female Shepard I'd wager will stick by that. Meer's performance doesn't take away from Hale's.

Meer work improved A LOT in ME2.

Just to you know I had about 15 playthroughs with ME1, 12 with a female Shepard and only 3 with a male because Meer's voice was no good and his performance was poor compared to Hale.
But in ME2 I have pretty much half with wich one, his work improved by miles and also his performance was very good.

I expect that in ME3 he will be even better, Hale is always good, so no worries about it.

I don't think so. I've observed much more criticism of marketing (which has obviously been heard) than Mark Meer.

I never had any problem with his performance in ME1, but I do agree that it improved by miles in ME2.

Wow, that actually shows allot, only 20% of the player base uses femshep, but on the BSN it's basically 50/50 with a slight lead for femshep.

That poll needs an "I play as both equally" option.

Really? I wouldn't be so sure about that. It's just that femShep players are more vocal about it. Because the femShep players are more vocal than the manShep players, it might appear that they are even, or slightly bigger than the manShap-playing group, but I think in reality, even on BSN the manShep players outnumber the femShep players.

It's the same with Paragon and Renegade. I know the Paragon players outnumber the Renegade players on BSN by miles, yet the Renegade players are often more vocal about their alignment. I've seen way more threads about Renegades than Paragons.

Just to point out that no one is knocking Meer as a voice actor. I mean he voiced the Vorcha after all. Thats some undertaking. Didn't he do Mordins voice in the Demo too?! I mean he is a great talent.

I think people are tiring of the generic and stoic action hero which Bioware asked him to voice. I mean his type is everywhere in Hollywood and in countless video games already. Hes everything everyone already knows and I grown up surrounded by similar action hero characters. Its nothing new and its frankly boring and repetitive now.

Femshep was more then just a refreshing change in comparison. I wont go into detail, I will be here all day. But her playthrough in ME1 is probably the best gaming experience I have had,or ever will have.

Will gender preferences change? I doubt it, MaleShep will still dominate the gaming experience for the casual gamer. But now Bioware have marketed femshep more, theres no doubt more people will try and love the experience.

As far as why marketing is always male Shepard, even though a lot of both male and female gamers like playing a female protagonist... The problem seems like the fact there are a lot of ignorant people who "cant take a female protagonist seriously" and would not buy a game just because there's a female on the cover who isn't a sex object. Marketing is pandering to the lowest common denominator. Sexist gamers will buy the game because there is a male soldier on the cover, and wont buy the game if there's a female who isn't just a sex object. Whereas FemShep players will still buy the game even if ManShep is on the cover.

Yeah, I don't get the big deal of the male x female Shepard "case scenario".

I play the game because of the story, fun and combat, not to measure wich one has the big di** or vag****!

If Bioware decided to have only one gender I still would be interested in the ME Universe, not only in Shepard.

I make sure to play both in all games, usually man first and then the woman, but I prefer playing as FemShep because if I am going to be spending hours staring at their back it mine as well be a woman. Not that I stare at FemShep's pixelated buttocks or anything but if it's there it might as well be her.

Plus Jennifer Hale rocks.

100% agreement there! Had five Shepards, three of them female! Female Shepard for the win!

FemShep for me. ♥

For MaleShep, I just watch one of the 3 people in my house that plays as him. :)

Bioware's own statistics showed 80% of the playerbase play as Male Shepard.

BSN represents a tiny fraction of the playerbase, and even then, not everyone on BSN participated in the poll.

Succintly; nothing will change for ME3.

Usually always play male-shep. He's hot, and his voice has more emotion than fem-shep.

Just to point out, those statistics ARE NOT from in game data which everone assumes.  Bioware themselves have said this.   Basically the data Bioware released isnt accurate and subject to interpretation.

Does that mean femshep has a higer percentage?   Dont know.  Possibly not much higher.  But looking at all the feedback shes been getting from BSN, Facebook, Twitter, Media Articles ect shows she clearly does have a massive following.

Shepard: I don't want anyone else, I want you. (Talimance)
Me: *Melts* :D

F!Shep always sound monotone to me. Hale was better at voicing Bastila in KOTOR. Not so much in ME.

Well, even regarding this Bioware screwed up in ME2, because in the first game she was better looking in armor.
Of course armor was armor, not spandex.

Gosh, now I'm pessimist and will cancel my pre-order! :innocent:
